  1. Guess there's some observational bias on my part then. But, even though his walk rate is down a tick, 4.1 is still not good. I guess the real problem is that he's giving up more hits and homers and the rate increases on those far outweigh the small improvement in the walk rate.
  2. You're certainly right in that situation being higher leverage. But, I also agree with the sentiment that in a 1 run game, Knebel is probably not the guy I want going with only a 1 run lead in the 9th right now, with his propensity for walking people.
  3. Never said he couldn't be that, but I think you would agree he's not likely to be claimed in a rule 5 draft if the brewers remove him from the 40 in the off season while he rehabs.
  4. He would have to be kept on the 25 man major league roster for a couple months before being DLed as a rule 5 pick (if he's even eligible with time in majors), right? I don't know who would keep a rehabbing player on their 25 man roster for a couple months. If he was the next Kershaw maybe, but then the brewers would keep him on the 40.
  5. I'd assume he'd go to the 60-day DL and open up a 40-man spot without being exposed to other teams. The 60 day DL is not available in the offseason is my understanding, so that is where the 40 man roster crunch is, and Suter is pretty likely to not be kept on the 40.
  6. I would think that is a small sample and/or a more road games when he first got sent down than recently thing. Regardless, 10 BB in 85 PA is a very encouraging sign that he has changes his approach and is having "major league" at bats. I think I'd keep him down at least another week though before letting myself be convinced that he's figured things out.
  7. My guess is Counsell would have to have 84 wins or fewer 3 years in a row, have an epic September collapse in that 3rd year and start off the next year with less than 10 wins by the end of April to get fired. I don't think Stearns gets fired in the next 5 years. It would be a lot more likely that some other team snatches him away than that he would get fired.
  8. I've seen it mentioned in a couple threads now that Wily Peralta was pitched out of the bullpen often early on, however, he only had 1 bullpen appearance in 2012, his rookie year, and after that he didn't see any time in the bullpen until 2017, when it was clear that he would not make it as a starter for the Brewers.
  9. Baseball requires light, and uses significantly more physical energy, so they aren't going to stay up past their bedtime for it.
  10. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  11. Wow, if he really does trade Braun for something and gets Braun to sign off on it, mad props to that! If he trades off Yelich, I'd be less than pleased though.
  12. I would guess that he'd be even or slightly positive even with a .650 if it's something like .250/.300/.350. Especially if he was the only sub .700 guy regularly in the lineup.
  13. I think expecting some sort of detailed explanation of the context of a 10 character or less offensive tweet from 7 years ago is pretty silly, just from the standpoint of: The only reason I remember what I have for breakfast yesterday is because I get the same thing for breakfast every day... (Actually, I was off yesterday... did I even eat breakfast?) Very few people would be able to remember the details of the context of a stupid tweet beyond "I was a stupid teenager and I said some stupid stuff that I shouldn't have ever said" in the first place. If he was able to remember the context that would almost be more an indication that he hasn't changed since because he's still been thinking about it 7 years later.
  14. He's about 340 days older. That's probably the issue, right?
  15. If this ESPN link is to be trusted, the Brewers are dead center in Team Age: http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/rosters
  16. If we're going to have a reliever be the "dedicated closer" I'd as soon it be knebel as any of the other guys. I certainly agree that Hader, Jeffress and Williams are better relievers, but they are guys that I want coming in during the "true" high leverage spots that get you TO the 9th. Knebel is still good enough to get you 3 outs in the 9th without "blowing the save", 85% of the time, which is about all you can ask for if you're going to have a dedicated closer role. That said, I'd be happier if they ditched the closer role, and if one of hader or jeffress was available and it's a 1 run game in the 9th against the 3-4-5, run them out there instead of knebel. But, considering they are pretty free with the roles outside of that 9th inning, I'm not sure that would really add up to more than 1 extra win the rest of the way (unless Knebel goes full Turnbow after the break).
  17. Where are you marking the lines for star/average/scrub? Yeah, it's a bit odd that we don't have anyone sitting at 100 OPS+, but if they have to be at exactly that to be in the "average" list not many teams are actually going to have a lot of those players. Villar, Miller, Shaw and Yelich could be construed as sliding into an "average" bucket going by OPS+, though clearly some would be at the higher end, and some would be at the lower end. Even though Braun is similar, I'm fine with leaving him as below, since he really has to at least be holding an .800 OPS to be even partially carrying his weight on the payroll.
  18. We should railroad the guy who started this thread outta town if they lose again tomorrow!
  19. So Miller Park took 290m in public funding, and the ownership of the stadium was set to be a split based on the contributions of the team vs the public funding. Due to the updates over the years, the split has slightly increased the Brewer's share so it appears to be about ~31% owned by the Brewers presently. http://archive.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/262635291.html The Brewers seem to pay a little over a mil per year in lease, and the Miller naming rights are ~2M per year, I would assume that goes back to the public funding side of things, but haven't seen anything that goes into the accounting details. I would also guess that the concerts and various other non-baseball events the revenue goes to the stadium not to the team as well?
  20. There is also the point that, although your spending on the pontoon boat most likely stayed in Wisconsin, it was probably in a different region/county of Wisconsin than if you had spent that money on Brewers baseball.
  21. I would also hope Miller Park can stay in service for 40 years. One of the annoying things that has gone on with a lot of the past stadium deals is putting up stadiums and then just 15 years later they are already going back for more? Even 20 years is ridiculously short of a lifespan for a 9 digit plus construction project in my opinion.
  22. I think we have to anticipate that by the 4th inning or so, guys are going to start taking the first pitch just to avoid being the first team retired on 27 pitches. So, it will probably end up around 35 or so.
  23. With Lopez going 2+ yesterday, and most of the rest of the bullpen getting used as well that does seem pretty likely.
  24. The All Star Game is a game for fans to see all the league-wide favorites play in a single game, and it's an honor to the players to be selected. I'm fine with the system as is, and really don't care about the game very much regardless. I might watch if I don't end up having anything better to do.
