  1. Perez has been hot over the last week, though I really don't think he's likely in any given night to be better than Villar. Villar has been losing more playing time to Brad Miller which is a clear offensive upgrade, so I can't complain about that. Regarding Perez, I thought the Brewers picked up a new guy named Perez when I saw box scores with 3 walks in 2 days over the weekend, but I guess like the game thread from awhile ago, he really was taking notes when Miller said "I just don't swing."
  2. I personally think that more of the issue is batters faced / pitches thrown in a given month/rolling window. If, through a combination of keeping his starts more in the 5 inning range, and giving him priority for the extra rest days to push back his starts while keeping the other starters on regular rotation will keep him from being overtaxed at any given time. With that sort of model, I think the risk in pushing past the "book" on innings increase per year wouldn't be all that high. Granted, there is truth to "hitting the wall" as players go into September/October when they never have before, but I think having a rolling look at his workload so that he's never getting to a point of being overworked at any given time would help alleviate that as well. If at any point it seems his hitting that wall a bit with fatigue even at all, 10 day DL and skip a start or 2, and that would help all around as well. We just have to make sure not to "Eldred" him to 250 innings or something ridiculous.
  3. I'm not against public sector having some stake in a stadium plan, but there was a long stretch of time where it was skewed way too much in favor of the teams, and I fully support the state/local governments that have pushed back on absurd plans demanding ridiculous amounts of public funding. Teams should at WORST be contributing 50% of the cost, and probably more in most situations.
  4. Damn, I wasn't going to watch but with our playoff hopes on the line I better tune in. I could be mistaken in my interpretation, but my understanding of the post was that it's a must-win to avoid having this thread devolve into the typical madness that ensues with more than 1 loss in a row.
  5. I would like to caution everyone, regardless of how his next outing goes, that you would do best in limiting your poultry consumption to chicken or turkey, unless you are an expert hunter and can bag a duck or pheasant in the appropriate season.
  6. That was the most cheers Wes Helms ever received in Miller park.
  7. Junior is clearly an MIL starter, and I hope he isn't traded to TOR anytime soon.
  8. I get all the Brewers media love I need from Uecker and Co. and Rock and Co. For any more in depth news and analysis, it's here and brewcrewball. What more media coverage could one possibly need?!
  9. I, for one, would prefer banter at that level of crudeness be reserved for Facebook and Twitter. This board has been great for nearly 20 years due to generally maintaining a standard of quality, which even with game threads being a little more lax, that post doesn't really meet. EDIT: This post was edited by the Mods to remove some verbiage posted earlier - but the sentiment is true.
  10. 2008 is when his elbow finally gave out.
  11. To be honest, some of the injury replacements have outperformed the people who were injured so far.
  12. Didn't he get hurt about the moment he stepped off the plane in Boston? Not sure they could screw him up that fast. Tyler Thornburg reiterates Red Sox program contributed to injury Kind of weird looking back, since Thornburg in a recent article (I don't have remember which one exactly or have a link) had mentioned having problems off and on with the brewers, and that when he felt good were the stretches that he was lights out, but in that article which was much closer to the time he said he had never had shoulder problems before.
  13. He's still got another four years after this to pop out a couple of elite offensive seasons of .900ish+ OPS, but it is really nice having a couple guys who you can pretty much count on to have OBP well over league average in Yelich and Cain.
  14. To elaborate on Yelich, the Brewers picked him up because he's the kind of hitter they've been missing more the most part the last several years. A pretty consistent avg and obp, and enough slg to keep people honest. Not too flashy, but really helps solidify the top of the lineup.
  15. He's up .027 points over his career OPS, so probably just viewing bias or whatever it's called.
  16. Thanks for the memories (coming up to an insane hot streak last year for a few weeks was fun), but the time has come (and gone). Good luck in your future endeavors, Mr. Sogard.
  17. Is Brewerfan.net blocked in Seattle for some reason?
  18. I don't want to look down on Domingo too much, though I know he's had a bad year. But, between him, Phillips and Broxton, if there is anyone that you'd rather have as a true 4th OF (not getting many starts, late game replacement), it's clearly Broxton. He's old enough that the "getting regular ABs" rings a bit hollow, and his defense and base running as a late innings replacement is a big plus.
  19. He doesnt suck. He just isnt giving the team his all as he used to. Hopefully he redoubles his commitment to the team if we get in the playoffs. That seems like quite a stretch of an assumption to make.
  20. Sure you can criticize him for it. Yes, it happens, but if you swing away 3-0 with RISP and pop up a pitch you deserve to be criticized. Sorry, I just don't expect perfection. The difference in timing and bat path between that LF popup and a liner into the gap is so minuscule. It was good pitch selection. It just didn't work out. The other ABs, I'm fully on board with the criticism!
  21. Over the course of his career, the low outside slider has always seemed to be Braun's main kryptonite. That said, he has been getting a little worse at laying off of it over the last couple years from what I've seen on TV.
  22. I'm not going to criticize Shaw for swinging at the pitch. It's not like he swung at a borderline strike on 3-0 and made weak contact. It was a pitch you want a slugger to rip at. Sometimes you're just not going to make the kind of contact you're hoping to make, even on a meatball pitch.
  23. 3 straight low outside sliders though, each one a little further out. You'd think Braun would have figured it out by the 3rd one that it's not a good pitch to swing at
