  1. Haven't checked, but does he lead the team in at bats as well? What is his strike out %, that would mean a lot more than having the most... Yes, he's leading the team in AB/PA, so it's certainly symptomatic of opportunity. Of players with 400+ PA, Aguilar has the highest strikeout rate at 25.6%. If we drop it down to 200 PA, Eric Thames is leading with 34.1%. Also, this year is looking like it will be Yelich's highest strikeout rate since his rookie year, but if his increased slugging is coming at the expense of raising his strikeout rate from 21% to 23%, it's naturally worth it.
  2. I just noticed that Christian Yelich is quietly leading the team in strikeouts.
  3. Ryan Braun - Batting 3rd: .656 OPS, Batting 5th: .857 OPS. [sarcasm]Clearly Ryan Braun doesn't know how to hit in the 3-hole![/sarcasm]
  4. With Peralta, the issue seems to me like his command just comes and goes without warning, which, to be honest, is somewhat to be expected with a young pitcher. Right now his biggest problem is he's either got it or he doesn't for the most part, so when he loses it, he gives up most of his hits and walks in a big inning, but then can turn around and put up 3 to 4 Os after. Most of our middle relievers are somewhat similar, really, they come in and get the outs, or they come in and get shelled is what it seems like.
  5. Guerra was definitely hurt by bad defense and luck last time out, but he has not been very good for most of the last 2 months. If he blows up again, then I would not complain about Davies getting his spot. Otherwise, I agree, bring him up in the bullpen, as a piggy back candidate for any start that other guys are struggling early.
  6. you could start the "september predictions" thread that I'm sure will be coming
  7. Might just be observational bias, but it seems like over the last week at least, the pitching has been pretty good, but there's been poor luck and bad defense in several of the games that has hurt.
  8. A certain former Brewers radio announcer from the early '00s mentioned the site on a broadcast which is what clued me in.
  9. I really like Shaw, but I've got to agree that Shaw alone wouldn't net the Brewers a starter that would be a true upgrade. I also like him better than Moose (A better record of OBP), he's under control / cheaper longer, so I'd be a bit disappointed to make that move. That said, if Shaw was part of a package that could pick up the much ballyhooed "One True Ace", I could probably bring myself around to it.
  10. We'll know for sure within 76 hours
  11. He left a changeup and a curveball somewhat up, and the hitters got all of them.
  12. It's a 1 game difference in the standings, but it's a 2 game difference in the magic numbers, so there is some truth to them counting for 2.
  13. I think Davies' stats from 2015-2017 are proof that Davies CAN get elite MLB hitters out. However, his stats this year definitely raise legitimate concern as to whether he will be that effective in a one month run to close out the year (+any playoff games). That said, over last 7 starts, Guerra has a 6.08 ERA, and Peralta has a 5.80 ERA (even with his 7 shutout innings yesterday), so I wouldn't be able to find any reason to complain about giving Davies a couple starts in place of either of them.
  14. I believe the contracts work out that, if a player officially retires, they do not get paid the remainder of the contract. What typically ends up happening is that the player either goes into perpetual "rehab" for the remainder of the contract, or that the team and the player negotiate a settlement. At 32, and 5 years remaining on the contract, he's not retiring.
  15. For the players, you are absolutely right. A player needs to focus on their own games. For fans, nothing wrong with watching all the games/scores come in, and have a rooting interest in the games for the best benefit for our hometown team to take place.
  16. For fans, I think it makes plenty of sense to discuss the moves that the near competition makes and how it might relate to improving those teams compared to ours. In a completely different mindset, I'm sure every team is watching the moves that other teams make, to see if that might be making any sort of opening for them to make a move as well. When it comes to watching the standings, again, for fans, there's nothing wrong with scoreboard watching. It just doesn't pay to get too hung up on the day to day of it until the season is coming down to single digits on the magic numbers/games remaining. For the players/coaches, of course there's not really nothing to be gained from scoreboard watching, but it is a human thing to do.
  17. If they don't work out a trade that they would be happy with, I would imagine they'd retract the waiver rather than just dumping their salary. But, who knows?
  18. start a #FreeDomingo campaign. It worked for Orf.
  19. If they are going to go on an 8 game win streak, I prefer it to be 8 games to end the year I don't know if I agree with that. If they wait for the last 8 games of the year, they might already be eliminated. (I'm not normally part of the crowd posting negatives either, FYI)
  20. If a minor leaguer in Asher's situation accepts the assignment to ensure a bit of a paycheck the rest of the year, does he become a minor league free agent again in the offseason?
  21. To be honest, although I think people have a tendency to blame the manager way more than they should, if we consider the window that Doug Melvin got us to be bookended by the playoff years of 2008 and 2011, the years in between were headed by Ken Macha. Clearly, there were the typical issues with pitching in that time frame as well, but I think there is a reason that Ken Macha only lasted 2 years, even though the Brewers(Melvin/Stearns/Attanasio) have given managers some leash (way more than the fans do).
  22. After seeing Torts' signature in another thread: If the Brewers don't make the playoffs, someone should be banned! (But not me!)
  23. The Rays decided they wanted their cash in return to smell like cheesesteak instead of beer.
  24. When I played World of Tanks for awhile a few years back, I would watch some of the good player's live streams. It was pretty much the best way to learn how to not play like an idiot. I have watched YouTube vids of Minecraft since I play modpacks, and that's a good way to learn about the different mods. Outside of that, I'd generally rather play whatever game than watch someone else play it.
