  1. I'm going to have one minor quibble with that stat, in that it doesn't appear to take into account leverage at all. Villar went from first to third a lot last year, I'm assuming somewhat because the Orioles were down 7 to 1 at the time and the opposing team didn't care if he took an extra base, they just wanted to keep the double play in order and keep the trail runner from getting into scoring position. That doesn't turn Villar into a great base runner. He's just an aggressive runner on a really bad team. Just like those guys on bad teams in the NBA that score 20 a night. That doesn't make them great players either, someone has to shoot the ball. I give him credit for hustling, but let's not pretend those skills will translate when/if he starts playing in tight ballgames where the teams actually care. That's why we saw him get thrown out so many times when in meaninful Brewer games. I don't believe he's changed at all, it's just the circumstances around him have. Maybe he learned from past mistakes. Plenty of athletes do this. Or, it could also be possible that a new coach helped him with something that he wasn't getting helped with here. If we believe that someone like DJ can do it with pitchers, why can't an IF coach do the same with positional players?
  2. Problem is, Smoak's splits have been brutal the last two seasons, indicating that despite the switch-hitter benefit, he's pretty bad vs. LHP as well. In fact, his 2019 stats vs. LHP were very close to Thames' split numbers vs. LHP.
  3. Thanks John. I appreciate the insights into your thought process as well.
  4. Typically, the person just doesn't get to post here anymore.
  5. I think what people are taking issue with, John, is the idea that everyone's values on the players involved MUST have been wrong, because the trade was made. I think it's possible that one of the teams simply made a really bad trade, which shouldn't change the relevant data after the fact. Your analysis doesn't account for the possibility that some GM's are actually bad at their jobs.
  6. As always, treat any 'inside information' both cautiously and courteously. Some of the higher-ups here have ways of eventually verifying whether stuff is legit or not, but until then, treat everything for what it is- unverifiable info posted by someone on a message board.
  7. Agreed. As I said in another thread, he's ideal as the typical middle-IF bench guy that we always carry, especially with Hiura and his crappy defense on the roster to sub out late in games. I'd rather have him at $1-2 million over the $2 million we paid Saladino/Spangenberg to be that guy last year....
  8. I'd put it closer to 20/80, with the 20 as non-tendered personally.
  9. Sign me up for Smith as well. Seems like an ideal fit in this lineup.
  10. Yep, that actually seems very possible if not likely. But PSU also has the disadvantage of having been there more recently, which sometimes factors in.
  11. That 'project' already matches or exceeds Arcia's production, so I'd think they're fine with it.
  12. I'm actually here too. Basically make it a high AAV 2-year deal, which fits with the Brewers' window, and almost encourage the opt-out, which would benefit both teams at that time. And then pray he doesn't cliff or get hurt in those two years....
  13. The Wisc/PSU question is the big one. Historically (and I know that's all of 6 seasons), I believe that when the Big Ten Champ was in the playoff, the runner-up of the Championship game was the Rose Bowl representative, but I don't believe they're required for that be that way.
  14. Villar at $10 million isn’t a good deal. Take it down a few million and you have something. $10 million is a good deal if he's a legit 4 WAR player. The fact that other teams didn't want him indicates that they don't believe that to be a true measure of his production going forward.
  15. I believe that’s the regular menu, not the GameDay menu, but maybe that’s changed.
  16. 1919 is very good, though expectedly overpriced.
  17. In all honesty he wouldn't be the worst option as their utility IF/late inning defensive replacement for Hiura in the world, either. Because of that I doubt they'd just non-tender him and let Arcia go for nothing. That's also why I doubt they just trade him for peanuts. This is my line of thinking. I think Hiura's defensive issues make Arcia a logical late-inning defensive replacement at SS with Urias sliding over to 2B. For the 2-ish million it'll cost for Arcia, I'd rather have him than a retread like Spangenberg or Saladino.
  18. What Cain did at age 27 following an off year is mostly irrelevant when you're now talking about a 34 year old. Those interested in moving on from Cain are more concerned that this is the trend, not an outlier, that will result in him being an albatross the last two years of his deal, and that's a valid concern, IMO.
  19. I’m modestly surprised UW opened as the favorite vs Minnesota.
  20. I don't believe I've heard a second of hype regarding the O-line this year, personally.
  21. When did the Eagles become terrible?
  22. It clearly looked short live. Calling that was a joke, but you knew it wouldn’t be overturned.
  23. That would give the Badgers their best resume and may be the only way they jump a 1 loss Bama but Ohio State is likely already in then which means 3 spots are taken and the PAC12 is a good bet for a 1 loss champ as well. A top 5ish PSU would be a pretty good win. Oregon’s upset loss tonight makes the PAC 12 situation very interesting....
  24. Holy crap, what a kick.
