  1. Did Ohio State’s fans just rush the field after beating a lower-ranked team?
  2. According to that playoff projections site, a PSU win today actually decreases the Badgers' playoff chances by 6%. Realistically, I'm rooting for the Rose Bowl, and an OSU win makes it less likely PSU will be a more attractive pick for them.
  3. I suppose that depends on the assumption that Segura is destined to be the player he was last year, rather than the 3.5+-WAR player he was the three years before that, which is what a team would have to determine.
  4. Yeah, you can’t just ignore a 2.5 WAR season. Definitely not as good as Segura’s one great Milwaukee season, but good nonetheless.
  5. Looking at this stats, it's unreal how great he's been since literally the year after he left Milwaukee. Exactly what I'm sure will happen if/when we dump Arcia.
  6. You don't have to accept it, but that doesn't mean it isn't actually true. Maybe they already are.
  7. I'm not equating it with income. And none of us know what their income truly is anyway. There's no guarantee that other businesses operate at a profit every year, why should our favorite baseball team be any different? You don’t know that it is any different. Honestly Jim, beyond a repeated argument that you don’t think the Brewers have spent enough money this offseason despite the fact that it’s November 21st, I’m not sure what point you’re hoping to make here. There just seems to be a disconnect in the concept that making a sound baseball decision doesn’t mean they’re just being cheap.
  8. You see, it’s this narrative that’s just unfair and a holdover from the Brewers of the Selig Era. The Brewers have been significant players in free agency the past few years, so there’s no bargain rack to it. That’s just a false narrative. I will gladly jump for joy when they add players whose performance exceeds what they lost in Grandal. Good thing they have many, many weeks left to do so, then.

  10. You seem certain that those shackles are fabricated. You’ve noted multiple times that we don’t know what the financials look like... that means you don’t know that those claims aren’t legitimate either.....
  11. Their approach prevents them from becoming a 'fart in the wind', as Ron Wolf so brilliantly put it. They're run by the smartest baseball people the franchise has ever had. And yes, they have indeed been exciting to watch while smartly aquiring their players. Which is why the complaining is so odd and misguided, IMO. You very much missed the point. The point being, complaining about budgets and spending on November 21 is ridiculous. For all we know, they priced out their furnace and decided that money would be better spent on 3 other upgrades instead, which is the likely outcome from here. Who cares what your house value is if you can pay to keep it functioning each year? Thankfully, our front office understands that there are smart, fiscally responsible decisions that can be made to upgrade the roster and they have a history of doing so. No, just by people that hope the team can continue to put a competitive product on the field year after year, rather than having to rebuild in 2023 when they're paying an aging catcher and centerfielder $50 million to fill two roster spots and OPS .600. Yep. Because IT'S NOVEMBER 21ST and this was the FIRST MAJOR SIGNING OF THE ENTIRE OFFSEASON. That also means it's not yours, Jim.
  12. I do think they may be active in the minor-league Rule V. Seems like a decent way to take a few chances on guys without giving them the MLB roster spot.
  13. The Brewers are lucky to have so many fans who are concerned about them getting a good deal on their player contracts. We don't do that with anything else in our lives. We don't concern ourselves that the furnace repair company is paying their workers too much. Or the barista at the coffee shop. I'll bet, though, that you shop around to determine whether your furnace repair company is the best deal for their services relative to others out there. And I'd bet that you often weigh whether it's best incur the cost to replace that furnace this year, or whether that money would be better spent on multiple-other important items, like upgrading your old water heater, painting the whole upstairs of your house, and having your deck re-stained. Sure, you can do ALL of those things now and put it on your credit card, but that would be fiscally irresponsible and either snowball into a catastrophe in 2-3 years, or would cause you to have to sell your house to pay off the debt you incurred and weren't able to pay for. I'd bet that relates to most people's lives pretty well, one way or the other. Thankfully, our front office understands that there are smart, fiscally responsible decisions that can be made to upgrade the roster and they have a history of doing so. I find all of the hand-wringing very odd, when the team has had two consecutive offseasons where they signed top-tier free agents prior to now. Also, it's November 21st.
  14. I'd think this move allows them to pursue a legit upgrade at both 1B and SS.... you'd have to think that the cost savings of having a 5-ish million catcher vs. 20 million lets them pursue someone like Gregorious more seriously, while giving them some wiggle-room for pitching.
  15. That Pina/Kratz combo was pretty average at best offensively, though. I think you have to shoot for something better than a cheap replacement-level vet at the position, considering that guy is likely to get 30-50% of the starts.
  16. Just because they chould doesn't mean they should.
  17. You're basing that statement on what, exactly?
  18. Yeah, move Tampa there or something if they really feel the need to. MLB has had 2 of their last 4 expansion markets work out very poorly, so I'd hope they'd be hesitant to do anything more at this point.
  19. Oh, don’t get me wrong- the ‘bond between the city and the team’ thing is absolutely crap. But I don’t think the tweaks were made to cause obsolete items. If you asked the designer honestly, he’d just say it was because he thought it looked better.
  20. Sure. They took the beloved Ball in Glove logo and changed it to signify their devotion and love for us. Because nothing says "I Love You" like a little blob of ink that makes all of the other apparel you've bought over the years obsolete. They did this to sell more stuff. That's a perfectly valid reason. That's pretty jaded, Jim. Do you really think that people will say "Darn, my hat is missing the new blob of ink connecting the m and the b... I need to go buy a new one as a result?' I don't.
  21. Love both the home unis, lukewarm on both of the roads. Love the wheat baseball logo a lot.
  22. Markus Howard throwing up as many shots as he can and hope for the best. So, essentially, PeaveyFury's game at the Y. Yep, I have a solid launch and pray skill set.
  23. NFL football, more than any other professional sport, lends itself to "barstool GM-isim", where fans honestly believe that they know more than their chosen team's front office. That type of entitled attitude tends to get nauseating at times. Basically, the people that are complaining about the Gary pick now are the same people who complained about it then (because they didn't know who he was, isn't a WR, isn't a Watt brother, whatever), and they are propped up by the fallacy that his lack of measurable stats so far in his career proves them right. I couldn't tell you whether Gary is going to amount to anything. At this point, no one can. Anyone who tries to claim that they know what that guy's future holds is blowing smoke. He's a 21-year-old kid with tons of potential. That's really it. The funny thing about it is, all three of our first three picks took criticism here, and now Savage and Jenkins have proven to be solid early contributors. Gary takes criticism because he hasn’t had the opportunity to even prove himself yet. As you say, he may well flame out, but making that decision on him now is unbelievable.
  24. Not sure I buy this. A guy that was being mocked in the top 10 as recently as early April was far from a reach at 12. And the Giants were rumored to be taking him with their next pick.... I believe that was reported a week or two later. Gary was problematic to Packer fans on draft day IMO because he was a guy they hadn't heard linked to GB and freaked out thinking about Justin Harrell as a result. People were up in arms about the Savage trade up/pick as well, and you don't hear those people owning that right now....
  25. How many of those have happened under this GM?
