  1. I'm on board with Zaun, Kotteras, and will be cool with anyone on a minor league deal, but this one is just baffling to me.
  2. I don't get what adding an extra year of a bad contract would do to help the Brewers. Paying your 4th OF $18.5M for the next two seasons just isn't a good plan for a team looking to shed payroll in order to add SPing. But as Haudricourt mentions in his blog and MNBrew mentioned above, if the Dodgers pick up part of Pierre's contract to even things out, it actually lowers the Brewers' payroll commitment for this year, owning around 6-7 million for Pierre instead of 10-11 for Suppan. Yes, it would be at the expense of some flexibility next year, but that's the trade off they have to weigh.
  3. After picking up Kotteras though, this still seems unnecessary. And I still don't understand that line of thinking- you're expecting Kotteras to match Zaun's numbers? Maybe I'm just not as high on Kotteras as I should be, due to my admitted lack of knowledge on him....
  4. Corey Hart's defense in RF has been a huge disappointment the past couple of years, so I do wonder how much worse Braun could actually be out there than him.
  5. I don't think being an innings eater has much value when you are essentially a replacement level pitcher It is when the replacement options that the Brewers had last year were below replacement level....
  6. If the metrics are showing Zaun to be a better defensive catcher than Kendall, this should be viewed as a definite upgrade.
  7. That's still a nice OBP vs. lefty's in 2009 though considering his position. Hopefully the slugging is more like 2009 than 2008 as well.
  8. He doesn't seem like much of an improvement over some combination of Salome, Lucroy, and Rivera though. One of them (Rivera?) probably plays half the time anyway, as you mentioned. Zaun could be a huge upgrade or a small one over Salome/Lucroy, depending on how they adjust to the majors. I'm guessing with question marks already at SS and CF offensively, catcher wasn't one to be left to chance, as I said before.
  9. If he can keep up his .340is OBP he won't be to bad. Seems unnecessary. What catcher already on the roster are you predicting a .340 OBP from if Zaun wasn't signed, out of curiosity?
  10. I think with Escobar still getting his feet wet hitting MLB pitching, it was probably necessary to find a catcher that could hit even at the expense of defense so that we didn't have three (or 4 depending on Gomez) slots in the lineup that could struggle.
  11. Yeah, I'm sure there's no insta-ban there like there is here if false rumors are posted.
  12. Thankfully, Wisconsin is deep in mediocre guards. Taylor and Evans sure look like they're going to be major help defensively this year, with a nice potential to step in with some development offensively after Travon and Bohannon are gone.
  13. Right before that play their player (can't remember who it was) lost control of the ball and was the first player to touch it again. That should've been a travel. That was the play where my aforementioned shriek happened. Bo was concerned about the goaltend, while I was yelling 'travelling' at the top of my lungs.
  14. The whole second half it felt like I was just waiting for Duke to turn it on and pull away, but the Badgers had an answer every step of the way.
  15. I literally shrieked, probably pissing off my neighbors since it was 10:25 or something like that.
  16. Well, I won't slink into the shadows after saying at the time of the trade that it was almost certain that Lopez would be offered arby and was completely wrong. Also a very dumb decision by the Brewers.
  17. Let's not forget that Arlington isn't exactly a pitchers park either... Correct. His ERA+ was very good. Not to mention the switch from the AL to the NL.
  18. The only word that comes to mind for me is "ugh." I completely admit that I didn't look before posting, but I don't believe we had many guys in the rotation that had 3.67 ERA's or lower over 200 innings last year.
  19. Like I said before, the reports from earlier in the week were almost certainly GM speak.
  20. It's not even worth discussing. Thanks for clarifying that, we should probably just go ahead and lock this thread, then.
  21. Well, that can either be taken at face value, or as the typical "I'm not motivated to trade Lyle Overbay" GM-speak that comes in situations like this.
  22. Add me to the list of people unwilling to move Lawrie at this point as well. I think any move the Brewers make could include Gamel or Lawrie, but shouldn't include both. If they're really looking to trade for a young-ish front line pitcher, a package of Gamel/Salome/Gomez should be a great place to start, and a package that's realistic for the Brewers to give up as well.
  23. I presume you have a link/facts to back that up? Based on your sudden and complete disappearance from this thread, I'm assuming this ended up being your assumption, and not actual fact?
  24. Weeks' trade value to the Marlins wouldn't be similar, though, for previously mentioned reasons: only under contract a couple of more seasons and not nearly as cheap as Gamel- Both of which are extremely important to the Marlins.
  25. Trade for Josh Johnson and sign Randy Wolf or Marquis or D. Davis and we very well could be back in business!! Yeah, adding Johnson/Davis to the rotation without giving up anyone off the major league roster would put this team into real good shape going into next season.
