  1. All the proof you need that Kendall is in the plans for next season is that he continues to play every day in September. And again, I believe Damian Miller was the regular starting catcher in September in 2007 as well.
  2. A Madison radio station was playing some of the remasters and they sounded amazing. And that was over the radio.
  3. Melvin loves the guy and he probably doesnt think there are better alternatives (not true but Melvin will feel differently). Melvin has had zero problem getting rid of poor performing catchers late in their career even in the past few seasons (Miller and Moeller) and trying to upgrade the position, so I don't think Kendall will be much different if they find a better alternative.
  4. If they don't get a few pitchers this winter none of the games in '10 will matter either. I can't tell you how much time you just saved me- now my evenings and weekends next spring/summer are wide open!
  5. Took a hard-hat tour of the new New Glarus Brewery on Friday- very, very cool and had a wonderful opportunity to do the tour with the owner/head brewmaster Dan. Also very impressed by their still relatively new Totally Naked, and think they may have another huge hit on their hands when it's mass-distributed.
  6. Obviously we disagree on DM's motives -- you think that DM made a move to get Capellan - one of the Braves top starting pitching prospects -- based on some publication's assessment. I would hope DM would not be taking that publication's information that seriously. Talk about blatantly putting words in someone's mouth. I maintain that you're desperately trying to dig yourself out of a hole here, but I digress. It's really beyond the point where there's any value to me in debating/reading much of anything of yours on these boards going forward.
  7. They should have told him this could affect his service time. His agent should have informed him of that at the time, otherwise he should probably find a new agent.
  8. Thanks for making me read through four pages of off-topic stuff looking for actual posts about JJ Hardy.
  9. This was after ~20 starts and the Futures game. Sounds like the Braves sold him at the right time. But your initial argument was that Capellan was acquired as his value was on the way down... so which is it? It sure sounds like you were making a claim/argument without checking the accuracy first, got called on it, and now are grasping at straws to try and cover your mistake. What young pitchers has Melvin acquired and what young pitchers has he given away? If that's your criteria, you're leaving off Dave Bush, Chris Capuano, and Carlos Villanueva.
  10. Someone has to be the Braves top pitching prospect -- It doesn't mean they are necessarily good. Because the Braves historically have struggled with developing their pitching? Here is a list from 2004, Capellan (or any Braves pitcher for that matter) is missing Of course if you had put up the Baseball Prospectus list for 2005 to compare apples to apples, you'd see that BP had Capellan at #40.
  11. I don't include Capellan as a high ceiling prospect because he simply wasn't one Yeah, because BA routinely rates low ceiling guys in the top 25 of all of baseball? So what. People and publications rank players every year -- they are often wrong Yes, they are wrong sometimes. But the point is that this claim that Capellan was declining in value and not a high-ceiling prospect at the time he was traded is completely false, and nothing more than hindsight.
  12. If you are saying that Capellan was a potential solid starter or closer-type -- I'd have to disagree -- When the Brewers got him, it was clear he wasn't going to develop into a starter, and hoping he would be more than a solid BP pitcher was probably a stretch. As Socal said, this is completely hindsight. The very offseason he was traded, he was ranked the 25th best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America. Unless FTJ knew something that the folks at BA were unaware of, this claim that he was a pitcher on the decline that the Brewers shouldn't have expected much out of is absolutely wrong.
  13. Until he pouts about not getting a huge multi year contract and plays how he did in Washington Or like he did in Arizona and Milwaukee this year?
  14. JDLR remains the single young high ceiling starting pitcher Melvin acquired in Milwaukee Jose Capellan can't figure out why you continue to ignore him, being that he was a top 30 prospect in all of baseball when Milwaukee traded for him. I think Melvin was satisfied with the pitching at the start of the season, but then Parra started to fall apart, Bush got hurt, and Suppan was dreadful. Then McClung and Villanueva both became junk. That is 5 pitchers who were being counted on heavily for the season...that hurts. I think this puts it rather well. Villanueva was a very good pitcher for us in his time in the majors, McClung was exceptionally useful last year, and no one could have expected Parra to be the trainwreck he's been this year. A lot of stuff had to fall into place for the rotation to get us to the playoffs, and pretty much everything that could go wrong did.
  15. Yeah, but is Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard going to be offered in an upcoming Woot-off? I think not . . . I got Silver Spring Beer 'n Brat Mustard in my last bag o crap. Along with lipstick, a neck tie, and chicken wire. I'm not entirely sure what they thought my plans were for the evening.
  16. As you say, growth right now is being fueld by government stimulus, but when that is gone and jobs haven't picked up significantly we may be right back at the bottom. But aren't the numbers still something to the effect that only 15-20% of the stimulus money has actually been spent so far? There's quite a while still before that is gone.
  17. Tell me, what is a recovery without jobs to replace the ones that left? Someone probably knows better than I, but in every recession, isn't unemployment the last thing that recovers every time? If it goes back down, so what, you only spent $150, if it goes up, into the stratosphere, as Celente says, that $150 could make quite a handsome return Couldn't you say/do the same thing with any stock?
  18. His value has risen, but not anywhere near the level it would be if he kept up his current numbers over 3 or 400 more AB's. True, but the bet would be that he won't actually sustain his numbers over 300-400 more AB's, that's the point of trading him.
  19. anyone picking him up after release would have to pay pro-rated share of ML minimum for the remainder of this season (that'd be ~ $100K), and then $400K next year and presumably the following year? I don't believe it's applicable to the buyout year (as mothership said). So the Brewers would have saved about 500k regardless of what team he was on (assuming, of course, that he didn't retire/leave baseball or something odd like that), but because of this deal saved an additional 1.25 million and 1.75 million overall.
  20. I've said it before and still believe that McGehee is probably the team's best "sell high" candidate, considering that he's both at the peak of his value right now and also at an expendable position. Hope that some other team thinks his performance this year wasn't a fluke and move him.
  21. Joe Morgan and Joe Buck are about the only two that actively annoy me on a routine basis. You need to watch more college football, then. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Pretty much anyone broadcasting a non-ABC Big Ten game that isn't Wayne Larivee is horrific.
  22. Well, over 9500 after another great market day on Friday and a new high for the year. My stock portfolio is up 93.1% since I opened it in July 2008- anyone have similar success stories?
  23. The various #2 from The Prisoner Agreed here. There were a couple of #2's that were downright terrifying. Looking forward to seeing Ian McKellan as #2 in AMC's remake of The Prisoner this fall.
  24. That about right? Well played, sir.
