  1. The Brewers are built for the long haul...not to mortgage the future for 2 months worth of players. Trading away one guy who has never pitched one inning above A-ball for players that would legitimately help out in a year when the Brewers have a great chance at the playoffs is not mortgaging the future. And I'm not even sure you'd have to give up Angel for sure. You act as though this year is the only year you want the brewers to be good. You're acting as if the Brewers have never had any pitchers who tore up the minors or lower minors either flame out or blow out their arms between there and MLB. For the record, how many home-grown pitchers have the Brewers brought through the minors to have success in MLB in the last 10 years? The answer might surprise you. Like pogokat said I don't think the upgrade really justifies mortgaging the farm. And again, trading one or two prospects is NOT mortgaging the farm. When you also realize that you're potentially adding an additional 1st round pick and sandwich pick back into the fold in 2008, I think it makes it even less like mortgaging anything. And it should be worth pointing out that Salome did not have a great year at West Virginia in 06.
  2. Great teaser for next week as well. It really gave away nothing of importance. Yeah, you couldn't even really tell if those were just past clips or actually clips from the upcoming finale. I kind of chuckled to myself after it was over, as it was apparent that they knew they didn't really have to advertise/give anything away to get tons of people watching next weekend.
  3. I have a very odd feeling that AJ plays a huge role in the final episode. Something like either saving his dad, or being the one that does him in (after he escapes from Phil's goons) or something like that. Great episode last night. I was sitting there wondering if anyone was safe.
  4. The mini Molitors have serious bat issues, mainly because only one of my three actually fits in the hole. If anyone has a hook up on a bat or two from the Carlos Lee bobbles (I'm still down 2 of those), I'd be very interested.
  5. Nice time at the game today. I agree it was kind of stuffy when they closed the panels for 2-3 innings when it got dark and ominous. JJ's HR left the park really quickly. I didn't think he had enough of it, but man was that a rocket. I had a poor view of Hall's catch into the wall (actually no view), but the crowd certainly appreciated the effort. Was I the only one in the crowd quietly hoping for the Brewers to not add to their three-run lead in the bottom of the 8th just so I could see the Coco experience in person once this year?
  6. Yeah, the nut popped out on mine as well.
  7. While I would have used Hall, with the way he's going right now he'd have found a way to ground into a double play with two men already out.
  8. 3. Why not use Villanueva there over Capellan anyways? Tuesday's starter is listed as 'TBA.' Speculation is that Villy might potentially start if something is wrong with Claudio. Just FYI.
  9. Send his ass back. Maybe this crap is why you were sent down in the first place, you whiny little baby.
  10. Nice to see Capellan regain his Spring Training form..... ugh.
  11. will inman could be the guy that leads this team to a world series in 2009 He could also be the next Mike Jones or Manny Parra, toiling in Huntsville in 2009 after shoulder surgery. He's a pitcher who has had fantastic success that has never pitched above High-A ball. Let's make sure we're not counting on him to be the next Carlos Villanueva or even the next Gallardo at this point, as he's probably 2 years away from that. And as us Brewer fans know all too well, a lot can happen in those two years.
  12. He's a fine pitcher, but you'd have him for a dozen starts and hopefully the postseason. Is that worth 6 years of your top prospect? Yeah, I agree with end. We're not talking about chasing 75 or even 82 wins anymore, we're chasing the World Series. Once you get to the playoffs, it's essentially about your top 3-4 starters. Sheets, Buehrle, Capuano and Suppan would give us a top 4 that rivals anyone in the league, and possibly in all of baseball. And it's a dozen starts, possibly the post season, and two comp picks, for the record. And that's assuming we won't re-sign him, which isn't an absolute certainty with Mark A running the team now. Not to mention that in High A ball, Inman has a long way to go before reaching Milwaukee anyway. He's a far thing from a sure bet at this point- just ask Mike Jones or Manny Parra.
  13. neither buerhle or dye are good enough to justify mortgaging the farm... I agree about Dye, but I think you're selling Buehrle short. He's got a career 3.82 ERA in the AL, and has had only one season out of 8 with an ERA over 4.25. On the Brewers, he'd actually create a legitimate debate about whether he or Sheets was the ace of the staff.
  14. Buehrle is a FA at the end of the year, and all indications are that the Sox will not be able to resign him. Inman and Salome would be plenty to get Buehrle at this point, I'd think. I'd be all for acquiring Buehrle for the stretch run provided we're still playing well and in first place. Giving up two prospects would hurt, but if Buehrle signs elsewhere, we'd at least get the comp picks at the end of the year. If we could make a reasonable effort to re-sign him, that'd be fantastic as well. Dye on the other hand is having a poor 2007 so far, and at 33, I'm not sure how much better he'd be for us than the glut of OF's we already have. I'd pass for sure. EDIT: So for both I would give up Vargas, Jackson and Gabe Gross. Then you're not getting either, honestly.
  15. Russ probably knows where to find those stats. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif EDIT: Yep. Well, I stand corrected. Still, a 2/3 chance of scoring the extra run isn't worth the tradeoff of avoiding our shaky bullpen with the starter at less than 80 pitches and cruising.
  16. A lot more options with 1 out, I'd say closer to at least 50% that he gets the run in. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I'd strongly doubt that a run scores from 3rd with 1 out half the time.
  17. I'd rather Gross vs. a lefty than Mench vs. a righty ANY day. Based on what? Gross' career .093/.250/..186 line vs LHP for a .436 OPS? I know you're not a Yost fan, but that makes little sense.
  18. Basically, Yost sacrificed a run You're assuming that the run absolutely would have scored, when in actuality there would only have been a 25-30% chance of it. If it was a sure thing, then I might agree with you. But with our bullpen so shaky lately, getting everything possible out of a cruising Suppan isn't a bad decision.
  19. We had an incredibly bad stretch of 3 weeks where we seriously won like 4 total games, and we lost a whole 1.5 games of our lead. I'm absolutely stunned by that.
  20. We seriously went like 4-12 over this stretch, and we lost 1.5 games? It's absolute insanity.
  21. SD takes a 2-run lead in extras. Absolutely stunning that we've been horrible and our lead is getting bigger. .5 on the Cubs tonight, possibly a full one on the Rats if the Padres hold on.
  22. If you wait long enough, Obermueller will give you runs.
  23. Time to move Mr. Braun down in the lineup.....
