  1. I know they have to let Richards hit, but it feels like there's blood in the water here....
  2. One more time for emphasis. Can't help but feel that the Cubs would have scored 2-3 runs less had the defense helped out a bit. Why? It's done. Enjoy what is happening now. Perhaps I was responding to the continued discussion regarding Ashby?

  4. What a great week + for recruiting- 3 star WR Vinny Anthony committed this morning.
  5. Wahl will be one of those guys who got robbed of any opportunity due to injury. The team seemed very high on him, and we never got to see why, except for 2 innings last year.
  6. I can't disagree with the assessment of Peterson's performance and value thus far, but I'd again question sustainability of it... we're still looking at a very small sample, and he could easily revert to what we saw from him previously.
  7. I'm just not sure I'm buying Hiura's current performance as a definite indicator of future results, and I am equally skeptical of his 1B defense. Plus, you've got inevitable injuries that will make Urias have to cover time at 2B, etc. Any acquisition that takes ABs away from the Robertson/Pederson's of the world, the better the team will be.
  8. Rendon got 7/$245 million at basically the same age, so I think it's very possible.
  9. Opportunity cost. One more year = one more chance to suffer an injury or show signs of age-related decline.
  10. Gallo isn't a 1B, and we still have old man Cain and more than likely JBJ for another year. Hard to imagine paying Gallo with an absolute log jam in the OF if we bring Garcia back. Thing is, Gallo performs better than any of those names, both defensively and likely offensively. I'd hope that if they found the necessary return to be reasonable, they'd find a place for him to play.
  11. In my own personal 'admit your mistakes' moment, as someone who thought the Brewers might/should sign Arrieta a few years back, I'm sure glad they didn't. He was pretty good his first year in Philly, but pretty mediocre at best the last two, all while making gobs of money. Now, he's really not good at all anymore....
  12. For those interested it watching the Bielema show at Illinois, the Illini have had six players enter the transfer portal to leave this week.
  13. Possible in theory, but the receiving team would be absorbing all the risk (of him blowing out an ACL in August or September, etc. and having an injured player who DOESN'T opt out), so I don't know what the return would even be? He'd have to waive his NTC again, which would also be a factor.
  14. Obviously that's the big question, but with the numbers he's putting up and his crazy good defense, he could easily get a Rendon-like $250m on the open market (and would be a similar age). You'd have to think that if the option wasn't at least of consideration to him, he wouldn't have negotiated to add the SECOND potential opt-out after next year when he agreed to his massive salary deferral.
  15. Top 100 overall guy as well! Badgers also added 3-star CB Avyonne Jones yesterday.
  16. Worth a bump, just to discuss a point raised in another thread- do the Cards look back on this trade with some regret right now? They're a pitching-starved team that gave up a pitcher that is performing VERY well (Gomber) and a bunch of other pieces for a guy that is performing so well that he's likely to opt out after this year.... all while falling further and further behind in the standings. Playoff odds for the Cards right now are about 3-4% per various projections. Odd to think that a guy you trade for could potentially put up MVP-caliber numbers and have it work out to be a poor trade for you, but the Cards may be headed that way.
  17. I think we can agree to disagree, because I don't think 'high expectations' and spoiled are mutually exclusive.
  18. I'd have to agree and this is also a good point. I agree with those that state that if I had to choose what happens in 2021, a WS is far and away bigger than a SB on my list, because I've seen two SB wins already and I really don't remember the crappy 80s Packers, but remember the laughing stock Selig-Prieb Brewers all too well. But, the expectations are also different. I'm not expecting the Brewers to really legitimately contend for a WS every year and in a lot of was am just glad their competitive as they have been. The Packers are viewed, correctly so, as a team that should contend each year. But, that has led to SOME level of unrealistic expectations and fan opinions, IMO.
  19. Yeah, that's very much what I was alluding to- his body type and results at the plate suggest a big, lumbering, defensively-challenged type, and he's really, really not.
  20. For the way Gallo's bat plays, I had always assumed for some reason that he wasn't very good defensively. He's actually a really solid OF.
  21. I absolutely LOVE the way both Adames and Urias play baseball, beyond just the offensive numbers (which have been great).
  22. Aguilar continues to make all too much sense for the Brewers. Competent defense at first with a thumper-type bat that they seem to need this year. Don't see Aguilar as a fit, mostly because he is 1B only, but also because he started out hot with a 975 OPS over 143 PAs through May 13th, but since then he has posted a 588 OPS over 148 PAs dropping his season total 200 points down to 773. ______ Might not look impressive with a career 88 wRC+, but has posted a 109 so far this year (Aguilar is 112) and a 142 last year for a 122 mark over his last 372 PAs. ZiPs isn't completely buying it, but still projects him at a 103 wRC+ moving forward. Thanks for the clarity on Aguilar's #'s, hadn't looked at his recent splits. I do like Rojas's flexibility, but much of his offensive value comes because he plays SS- he really doesn't have the thump you want at 1B/3B, especially with Urias also less of a power bat but getting a chunk of 3B ABs.

  24. I think I said that every time they won a World Series in the 2000's Haha, no kidding. Their championships are - by far - the biggest head scratchers to me. Just a good example of: "get hot and anything can happen" in the playoffs. This is why 2018 is so painful to me, because I thought the Brewers were the hottest team going into the playoffs (I still think they were and it's not close) and I thought it would carry them to the finish line. I do think it's perhaps more to do with one player getting red hot (MadBum) in the playoffs, and riding him to a title. He was magnificent for them in the post season, IIRC.
  25. That does add a lot of context, actually, and is a very fair point.
