  1. I'm really not sure that's true, though. NFL games now routinely stretch to the 3 1/2 hour mark, and the NFL has clearly not cared, since it has proven that they make more money with 35-27 games than they did when games were 17-13. Heck, college football games now stretch closer to 3:45....
  2. Peterson has really slid over the past couple of seasons, but he'd be an interesting guy to kick the tires on. Fixed it for you...
  3. I think the opposite, actually. If the goal is to make the product more 'watchable' as we've heard basically since Manfred took over as commish, why would to encourage more boring 3-1 games? Pitcher duels are great for hardcore fans. Not for expanding the game to a new generation and expanding TV revenue.
  4. Welcome aboard! Thanks for contributing.
  5. I've come around to the idea of waiting until the cap is set before I freak out about it. Obviously, they have far more flexibility if the cap is set at ~$195 than if it's set at $176. At $195, they can extend Adams and make a couple of targeted cuts and get to where they need to and have a little room to make an acquisition. At $176, it's much harder.
  6. Is Sternberger going to stay on the team? His complete and total disappearance is not indicative of someone they seem to have confidence in. He's really become the Josh Jackson of the offense....
  7. Except Rios is the reason the Dodgers are contemplating moving on from Turner. Rios is 26, plays the corner infield spots has hit in a small sample in the majors, and had an .887 OPS across 450+ minor league games. They're not going to drop or trade him, if anything he may take Turner's job. I think that's literally the point. If they resign Turner, it pushes Rios out. If they want Rios to start, they don't resign Turner.
  8. I have no idea where you're getting that number for Garcia, who hit more than 10 HRs in every full season he's played in his career.
  9. I think the idea is that you can't have too many offensive weapons. I really like MVS as another option, but Rogers/McCarthy's offenses really clicked when they had crazy deep WR corps that created significant matchup problems when you got a guy like Jennings or Cobb up against a teams 3rd or 4th best CB.
  10. For that reason, someone like Rios would make a ton of sense. You'll add some OBP guys in Wong and getting Cain back, so a thumper like Rios would help...
  11. I have no issues bringing King back if the price is low, if for no other reason than they'll have to devote financial resources elsewhere. As I previously suggested, I think he's best as a nickel back- off the field on running downs, slides in at boundary corner in nickel with a better option on the field at CB2 in early downs, sliding to the slot in nickel. I won't, though, be surprised if they decide that the money is better spent elsewhere and that they can draft a CB high. I know the Bears will make a serious attempt to keep him, but Allen Robinson would seem to make this offense completely unstoppable....
  12. I've kind of laid low over the past couple of weeks with regard to Packer news/commentary just because that seems most healthy (for me at least)after a loss like the NFC Championship, but a couple of thoughts this morning, as we enter a new offseason: I think this is an important offseason for very clear reasons. Obviously, the NFL setting the cap is a big piece, though I expect the Packers to start making moves that will help them regardless. I'd be stunned if an Adams extension isn't announced by the combine. But, it should be interesting to watch things unfold. This team needs to smartly address a few issues, as I think we all agree that there are some holes to fill, but that in filling them this team is again a legit Super Bowl contender. I really don't know what to think about the Barry hire. Most of us felt the same way two years ago with Hackett, and that has proven to be a fantastic hire, so MLF probably deserves some benefit of the doubt. Beyond that, it's really hard not to look at that resume and think A)there's experience, which can be viewed as a plus, but B)the results yielded by that experience were very poor, and C)those results came at two poooooorly run franchises. Hackett had similar issues with B & C, so hopefully the results are as positive in Green Bay. Anyway, despite the overwhelming disappointment of not playing yesterday, I think this is a bright, exciting off season that I am very much looking forward to.
  13. He is not. Personally I would have hired Evero or Gray based on what I read. Walter football was not a fan of the hire, although his assessment is full of hot takery. https://walterfootball.com/coachfirehire.php Walter has also hated our drafts under Gute, and that hasn’t worked out well for Walter...
  14. Honestly, my takeaway from that list was that it's remarkable that 4 of the top 6 became high-quality MLB starters....
  15. D'Amico at least had some success. His problem was he couldn't stay on the mound...
  16. I said it after the Wong signing, but Wong and Turner would make for an exceptional offseason for Milwaukee in normal times, let alone considering the current environment.
  17. That's the most Mets thing ever.
  18. Obviously, bad from an NL stand point as the Dodgers only seem to get better. But, probably ideal for the Brewers if the end goal is acquiring Turner....
  19. I think the logic is that it would keep the Dodgers from either signing him altogether, or at least topping another team's offer....
  20. Bauer to the Dodgers. You'd have to think the Turner domino falls someway now.
  21. This was my first thought, actually. Seems like the dreaded 'vote of confidence' that usually precedes the exact opposite happening!
  22. Based on what, your own opinion? No, based on science. Helpful, thanks.
  23. [sarcasm]At 30 years old, isn't he past his prime?[/sarcasm]
  24. Are there any projections out there for what Paxton is expected to receive?
