  1. Briggs is right on. Take a look a former Brewer prospect Dave Krynzel. Krynzel was not an outstanding prospect. His career minor league numbers are nearly identical to Gwynn's in terms of average and obp. Krynzel had more power but was a less efficient base stealer and both were pretty good defenders. Gwynn was better offensively at higher levels in the minors than Krynzel (it you value opb. over slugging). Krynzel spent quite a bit of time near the top of the Power 50...Gwynn, not so much. Krynzel did not have great production in AAA or his father's name to help him, and he eventually got some major league playing time. Krynzel put up a measly .486 ops in his time with the Brewers but there wasn't the collective outrage shown that there is when Gwynn (who has done significantly better in the majors) gets major league at bats.
  2. It's ironic that Yost and Manuel, two managers that have been highly criticized came in third and fourth and guys like Leyland and Torre are near the bottom.
  3. I was a pretty big fan of Jorge when he was here. I'd love to get him on our AAA team, but I'd bet someone like Washington or Tampa Bay would pick him up. Heck, he could probably be the Nationals 3rd starter.
  4. I've personally never played guitar, but I have some friends that play guitar (one is in a band), and they all swear by Martin acoustic guitars. My roommate recently bought a Martin that is worth more than my car (its a cheap car though).

  6. Well at least all of these guys picked the crew to finish ahead of the Astros. The Yahoo Sports Crystal Plastic Ball: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ys-standingspredictions032708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  7. Shouldn't there be more punctuation? Something like... OMG!!!!!!!!WOOT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I've got no problem with this move. Yeah, keeping Vargas would be good for depth in the rotation, but depth is not worth that much money. I don't think Zack Jack or Narveson would be that much worse than Vargas. I'm not sure that Mota or McClung have more value than Claudio, but Melvin must have felt bullpen depth was more important than rotation depth.
  9. All of the Bubbas must have moved on. Right now it seems quite a few girls are named Sarah or Brittany and most of the guys are Tyler or Andy (my name is Andy and there always seems to be another one in my classes). My reasoning for going there was sort of the opposite. I had planned on going to Platteville, but I got a full scholarship from the Fox that changed my mind. Can't beat two free years of school, but it'll sure be nice to go to a school where there are things going on. I also respect those with an engineering degree. Calc. 2 had me ripping my hair out.
  10. Sophomore at UW Fox Valley, transferring to UW Oshkosh next fall. Majoring in Computer Science.
  11. Those are my thoughts as well. I'm not sure if there's anything more Villy can do to show he deserves a spot in the rotation. He's pitched well when he's gotten a chance to start and is doing well this spring. If Claudio Vargas makes this team and Villy is sent to AAA I'll be sick. I know it's smart to try to prepare for the worst and stockpile as much pitching as you can in your system. I also think you try to put your best guys on the big league team. Putting two promising starters in AAA, and having two guys in the rotation who are hoping to bounce back after rough seasons just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I would like to keep Bush and Capuano (one in the pen, one in the rotation), but I see no reason why Vargas should break camp with the team unless another starter is traded or injured. He isn't good, and we shouldn't be sending better pitchers to AAA to keep him.
  12. I'd give Braun at least a year in left field before we give him a sign. Right now I'd move a sign closer to the bullpen and call it Castro's Cantonment.
  13. Weezer - Only in Dreams You can't resist her She's in your bones She is your marrow And your ride home You can't avoid her She's in the air In between molecules Of Oxygen and Carbon dioxide Only in dreams We see what it means Reach out our hands Hold on to hers But when we wake It's all been erased And so it seems Only in dreams You walk up to her Ask her to dance She says hey, baby I just might take the chance You say It's a good thing That you float in the air That way there's no way I will crush your pretty toenails into a thousand pieces Only in dreams We see what it means Reach out our hands Hold on to hers But when we wake It's all been erased And so it seems Only in dreams Only in dreams Only in dreams Only in dreams Only in dreams Only in dreams Only in dreams
  14. He must not have heard that we are close to bring back Branyan.
  15. I don't care much for Nickelback, but I don't blame them for being smart. I'd much rather please the masses and make money than please the indie rock types and adhere to their definition of what music should be. Yeah, Nickelback's sound is generic and repetitive, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.
  16. I'd be glad to join a Yahoo league if someone needed managers.
  17. Ned Yost, after being forced into hiding all winter, peers out only to find that another thread about him has been started.
  18. This guy is off the chain.
  19. I can see how a suspension could end McClung's career, but I don't see why Major League Baseball would bother to suspend him in the first place if they thought that could be the case. Why would the MLB make up a reason to revoke a suspension when they could have just not suspended the player?
  20. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3041362 Yep.
  21. That's more evidence than you'll see in almost any beanball case. That's like being caught at the murder scene holding a bloody knife over a body but maintaining your innocence based on the fact that you weren't seen doing it. No, short of having bugged the dugout, there's no way to prove Yost's intentions, but I think it's pretty generally accepted that it was intentional. Wasn't it shown that there was a hitch in his delivery on the pitch, and that it was a mechanics problem, not intentional?
  22. I want - Sheets, Yo, Suppan, Villanueva, and Capuano in rotation. Bush in pen, Parra in AAA (preferably on the same schedule as Ben Sheets), and Vargas traded. I suspect - Sheets, Suppan, Yo, Bush, and Capuano in rotation. Villanueva in pen, Parra in AAA, and Vargas traded.
  23. You just can't pick out situations where Ned made the wrong move in a game that the Brewers lost and say that Ned cost us that game. For example, on August 30th the consensus seemed to be that Ned cost us the game. People add that game to their list of wins that Ned cost the Brewers. Taking the numbers into account, it was the wrong move, but in reality, there was only a small chance that Ned's poor decision cost us that game. The difference between Mench's OBP vs. RHP and Jenkins OBP vs. RHP for their careers about .050. So even in a situation where a manager clearly makes a wrong move, the chance of it actually making a difference is small. If Jenkins had been guaranteed to get on base in that situation and the bullpen was guaranteed to hold the lead, then you can said that Ned cost us that game, but obviously that isn't the case.
  24. I really don't care who the manager is, I just disagree that changing the manager is going to make much difference. My thoughts exactly. The performance of a team is based on the performance of the players. With managers the whole "grass is greener on the other side" saying is so true. I'd bet there are fans on every team that think their manager sucks and that other managers are significantly better. There's no real way to prove or disprove these claims because their no magical algorithm to calculate a managers performance. I find it amusing when people pull out some random number and say "Yost cost us _ wins." If they can find some way to prove that other than saying "he made a bad move here, here, and here," I'll give them a cookie. That being said I wouldn't be too disappointed if Yost is fired. All managers get fired. His replacement won't make any more of a difference than he did, but maybe his firing would put some fire in the team. But of course if the team does better under a new manager people will always use that to show how Yost was holding us back or something.
