  1. Some of these picks end up being "traded" to the picking team so he can be optioned to the minors. Could be AAA depth option if he doesn't show enough in Spring training and a deal can be worked out.
  2. I also would have been intrigued by a 1 year deal. I think he did better than expected. I thought he'd get $3-4 million with another $2-3 million in incentives. Sounds like he ended up with $5 million plus $1 million in incentives.
  3. Bush is 36 years old, and arb eligible. Kelly is a guy many thought could be in the majors in 2-3 years.
  4. As the roster is currently constructed, I think Turang ends up playing mostly 2B next year with a some SS and a little CF. He seems to be a better SS than Urias, so I could see them using him as the primary SS backup. Trades (maybe even including him) could change this though.
  5. I want an elite CF player as soon as possible. The reality is there doesn't appear to be anyone who fits that profile except maybe Reynolds, which will cost a ton. I think the overall cost on anyone who moves the needle much (at any position) will be high, as it appears every competitive team has similar needs and the available players is a small list right now. It could change, but true difference makers seem harder to find right now. Don't be surprised if we reach out for Benintendi and end up with Merrifield or Taylor.
  6. Now is the time to plan this, as the I-94 project gets finalized and proposals are being made to bring significant changes to the interchange. Some kind of Condo/apartment building with some offices and bar / restaurants has been talked about for years. I think there was a design put together by the UWM Urban Planning program about 10 years ago, but couldn't find a link to it. I did find this study from Marquette that refers to the potential for developing the parking lots. https://law.marquette.edu/assets/sports-law/pdf/20120622-greenberg-mp.pdf
  7. Concerned that they'll need some length out of the bullpen with both Ashby and Small starting (if that is the case.) Hopefully Burnes gets them 7 today.
  8. My thought was that its nice to have a depth piece that could help if injuries happen or middle / long relief doesn't do well. I'd think the Brewers would decide by around mid-season whether moving him to the roster has any advantages. If not, some team may be in need of a 4th/5th starter and offer a low level return to get them through the season and the Brewers would save a little money.
  9. Anyone have thoughts on Lindblom pitching in the big leagues this year? He had pretty solid stats last year in Nashville and has been good this year, too. I realize Brewers have a very good 6-man rotation and Ethan Small is an option, but with the middle relief in Milwaukee looking a little rough, could Lindblom get a chance before long? He is making too much money to be kept at AAA all year. Is he strictly a veteran insurance policy in case of injury or could he get another chance and then get released if it doesn't work out? Or is he bound to be traded in one of those cash or PTNBL type deals?

  11. I think this is the concern most people have. Generally an OK addition. At $5 million people will love it and the love goes down as the price goes up. It appears that the price for bats is up from the last two years, so while I would prefer a deal around $7-9 per year, I won't be surprised if its 10+. If we had a higher budget, not a big difference, but every $1-2 million adds up.
  12. Better question is if Cain or Taylor goes on the IL who is the 3rd option for CF? Ray? Apparently McCutchen is not an option for more than a game or 2 anymore.
  13. With lots of interest, I'm wondering if he ends up with a 2 year deal. $10 million per year, $2 million buyout on year 2 (guarantees him $12m) and a vesting option for year 2 at around 450 at bats.
  14. Saw a report from St. Louis reporter saying that the roster can have a max of 13 pitchers.
  15. If the Brewers can get a .250/.320/.480 line out of him I'm OK with it, but I don't know if he can do that. This team has many guys with low batting average and OBPs, but in effect they swapped out lots of JBJ at bats. So should be an improvement from that perspective. I was hoping for better, but not a bad move. Still want another high quality RH hitter for 1B, but we might have to rely on Brosseau / Hiura.
  16. Yep, looking like Tellez / Vogelbach getting first crack at 1B and DH next year. They are cheap and can be decent. Hiura will be in AAA or part of a trade (my guess is they give him time at AAA). I'd like to see Escobar come back and give some help at 1B, but wonder if he'll cost too much with the current commitments and Arbitration increases. A lot of this may be decided by how the playoffs go this year. I don't think they'd overreact, but a huge playoffs for one of these guys would solidify their position, but a bad playoffs could cause the team to look for options.
  17. I think they'll use Anderson as a 4th starter (for 4-5 innings).
  18. With Axford's short-lived return to the Brewers it got me thinking about how the Brewer closers have seemed to last only about 2 years before trade, ineffectiveness, etc. I looked back to 2000 and it was pretty accurate. 2000 - Wichman 16, Leskanic 12 2001 - Leskanic 17 2002 - Dejean 27 2003 - Koln 21, Dejean 18 2004 - Kolb 39 2005 - Turnbow 39 2006 - Turnbow 24 2007 - Cordero 44 2008 - Torres 28, Gagne 10 2009 - Hoffman 37 2010 - Axford 24, Hoffman 10 2011 - Axford 46 2012 - Axford 35 2013 - Henderson 28 2014 - Krod 44 2015 - Krod 38 2016 - Jeffress 27, Thornburg 13 2017 - Knebel 39 2018 - Knebel 16, Jeffress 15, Hader 12 2019 - Hader 37 2020 - Hader 13 Hader is actually working on 3+ years as the main closer (depending on how you view 2018), which is highly unusual in recent Brewer history.

  20. I had 1st row ticket on 3rd base side (past the tarp) recently and had same experience. Between the seat being below the field and the net in my face, I couldn't see much. Moved up a few rows and it was much better. For a great stadium it seems like a design flaw for expensive seats.
  21. No, they can't, not unless they get hurt again. They can't extend their 30 day rehab assignments unless they get hurt. But wouldn't it be easy to claim arm fatigue or other minor injury? If they don't get creative, might be at risk of having to drop someone like Jace, Vogelbach, Cousins, Sanchez.
  22. Pablo Reyes, Milner, Yardley, Gustave, Maile, Lopes all in danger. They could also shut down File and Topa on the 60 day through the end of the year.
  23. Would think they'd want pitching and good prospect back. Could something like Houser and Turang get it done? Brewers could add another arm from a different deal to replace Houser.
  24. I'd be in favor of keeping Garcia next year (although not sure they can afford it) and trying to fit Taylor in as much as they can. If possible, try to move Bradley or Cain or go with 5 OF. I'm concerned that Bradley and Cain's offense is going to continue to be below average. Cain is getting injured a lot. Yelich also not performing to expectations and may be developing injury issues. Taylor is also a small sample in MLB. If Brewers lose Garcia they'd still need to add another OF to cover themselves or you'll see Jace (or similar players in the OF). With the likely return of the DH next year, Brewers need the offensive depth.
  25. Exactly. I see things getting rather expensive for some guys through Arbitration. Maybe a few extensions even out the costs, but unless they move one of the expensive guys (Cain, Bradley, Hader, etc.) it might be a year they go cheap.
