  1. Yeah he needs to be able to get that down. Can't afford to be stranding leadoff doubles with how bad this offense is struggling
  2. adambr2, no Erceg? Just checking in case you made an error. Thanks. Thanks for the reminder! I did forget him. I added him and moved the guys under him down a slot. Usually when I do these lists I'm just trying to find names to plug in once I get into the 20s -- now, there's guys I wanted much higher that I just couldn't find room for. Speaks to how deep this farm is I think.
  3. Butcher boy play. Infield drawn in and pulled it back and swung away to see if he could steal a hit. Almost worked. So we got cute... dumb. Anything we can do to avoid scoring I guess. Suter isn't a very good bunter. He fouled off the first bunt attempt way out of the zone. I would have preferred it if he gets it down too but pretty good chance he strikes out or pops it up.
  4. Of course the AAA fill in guy is shutting down our offense, just like every other pitcher these days.
  5. Butcher boy play. Infield drawn in and pulled it back and swung away to see if he could steal a hit. Almost worked.
  6. Side note here: Gyorko's first pitch from Suter is, by the definition of the rule, a strike. It is never, almost ever, like 1 time out of 1000, called a strike, because it winds up near the dirt, but it is actually supposed to be a strike.
  7. Good work by Suter getting out of the big jam with limited damage.
  8. Nothing like hitting a HR and then giving it right back the following inning.
  9. Yeah, I think some still hold Braun's skills in a little bit unrealistically high of a regard. He's still a good hitter, no doubt, but there's also no doubt he's a declining player. That 2011-2012 MVP candidate type player is gone forever. If he can average 120 games, 500 or so PAs and an .850 OPS the next 3 years, I'd be thrilled.
  10. Assuming both players would clear revocable waivers, which is doubtful. One would need to clear, the other could be claimed by Brewers/Tigers. Villar isn't going to clear waivers. At his age, cost, and prior production, some team would take a shot. Possible he could make it to the Tigers on the wire, but I doubt it. 6 other teams would have a crack at him first right now.
  11. People loved Sogard all year? I'm sure they loved his production but I recall many people saying to enjoy it while it lasts because he'd he very likely to revert back to career norms.
  12. 0 for 3 for Broxton first game back with 2 Ks. On the surface, not good. Looking a little deeper though, one of the K's looked like he took some pitches off the plate that were called strikes, and his other out was a loud hard out that could have been extra bases. Did show good patience in his late inning walk. We'll see what today brings for him.
  13. Yep. [sarcasm]Human element of baseball is so awesome.[/sarcasm]
  14. He was thrown one actual strike in that AB, which he swung at.
  15. Players with a NTC can still veto a waiver claim/trade. Even if we claimed Verlander directly with no trade and the Tigers did not pull him back, Verlander would have the right to refuse.
  16. Is that the same Washington team that were it not for a 8 run 8th inning we probably take 2 of 3? I doubt the 15-2 would have been so lopsided in that case either. Amazes me how undersold the major league roster of this franchise can be while the minors prospects are talked up in the opposite fashion. It doesn't make a lot of sense to cite the talent of a team based off the results of one there game series. The Padres swept the Cubs last month, it doesn't mean the Padres are better than the Cubs. He's absolutely right -- talent-wise, we are not there yet with teams like the Nats, Dodgers and Cubs. Not yet.
  17. Its ironic that people bring up 2014, because standings wise we were in a very similar position to what we are now, even a bit better then. Yet we made no significant moves, just Gerardo Parra. Why not? Because our farm system had been completely depleted from previous trades, and we had nothing of real value to offer to any seller. We were also in a very different time for our organization in 2014 and our organizational philosophy was different to reflect that. It's an apples to oranges comparison to compare 2017 to 2014.
  18. 1. Hader 2. Brinson 3. Burnes 4. Woodruff 5. Ortiz 6. Clark 7. Hiura 8. I. Diaz 9. Dubon 10. Ray 11. Phillips 12. Peralta 13. Erceg 14. Lutz 15. T. Williams 16. Bickford 17. Gatewood 18. Supak 19. Medeiros 20. Diplan 21. M. Harrison 22. Ponce 23. Pennington 24. Lemons 25. Ernesto 26. Herrera
  19. I remember last year right before the deadline when Smith and Jeffress talked about their friendship and how much they enjoyed being in Milwaukee together and how tough of a time of year it was with the uncertainty. It was the right business thing to do in both cases, of course, but I remember feeling terrible for both of them after they were dealt. Sometimes it's easy to forget that these are still actual people that have lives and friendships uprooted this time of year. I'm glad Jeremy is back home, and I hope he finds success again.
  20. SRB posted a link that pretty well establishes the velocity dip was more of an early season problem. Best case scenario is he rediscovers it again here and becomes a solid late inning option once more. Worst case scenario, we lose Taylor Scott. Nothing not to like about this.
  21. If you ask 99% of the posters here...they are legit NOT contending. Hence why no one wanted to see DS make a big trade. Look, the window(s) for small market teams to contend is so small, that anytime you get a chance you should do whatever you can(within reason) to capitalize on that. What if that window doesn't come around again for 10 more years?? I remember people here being legit upset when DM acquired CC and Greinke. He even said at the time, when your a small market team, you only get so many opportunities, so you have to try to "go for it" when you can. He's right. None of us know what the future holds...but we do know what the present holds..and overachieveing or not, they ARE contending at the moment. We also know that standings can turn dramatically in a week or two. In two weeks again we could be looking at the Brewers on top again with a 2 or 3 game lead. Then wouldn't everyone be a little disappointed that DS didn't do a little more now to help them maybe get over the hump?? I assure you Mark A is disappointed. "(Stearns) batting average is so high now, we’re going to listen to anything he recommends. But, just from ownership to him, there has been no pressure to divert from the plan.” “I had a meeting with (GM) David (Stearns) and (manager) Craig (Counsell) about a week ago, and I was very clear there would be no pressure from me to divert from the plan,” Yeah, sounds like Mark A is probably just seething right now.
  22. I guess it's easy to be mad about trades that didn't happen when you make up hypothetical terms that were never going to be accepted.
  23. Read what you wrote again. You said prove it 100% WITHOUT certainty, which he did.
  24. Ray + Ortiz would be a reasonable, fair price. I'd be pleased, even with the loss of 2 top 100 prospects.
