  1. Carlos Gonzalez on Peralta: "He was pumped -- first game of the season, throwing 99, 98, and he was hitting spots," Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez said. "Normally, he's a guy that makes a lot of mistakes. Today, he was on a roll." I'm sure he didn't mean it that way, but I wouldn't blame Wily for being rubbed the wrong way by this statement.
  2. What do you base such a claim on? Scooter Gennett would be a total joke at 3B on his noodle arm alone. Add in his range and we might as well sign Bartolo Colon to roam CF. An .881 Fielding Percentage at 3B for Mr Villar .881 is very bad, but there's more than just fielding percentage. Scooter's arm doesn't belong anywhere on the left side of the infield. Or in the outfield. So yeah, basically just 2nd. Maybe you could hide him in LF and get by.
  3. Thought for sure Briggs would have been here in the 8th to talk about Villar's HR.
  4. I'm not being combative, but why? What does he do that you like? First off, I'd say he has a good announcing voice. That's obviously subjective and hard to quantify, but to me that's something you either have, or don't. It's hard to explain. Think what Casey Kasem was to radio, and I'm not trying to compare the two, just trying to explain the voice thing. It's either there or it's not. To me, BA has it, Coshun does not. I'd also say he has a pretty good feel of when to show excitement and when to temper it, something he's gotten much better at since he first arrived. I don't think he's vanilla at all when big Brewer moments happen, but at the same time, I don't hear screaming from the next room when the Brewers single like I heard with Sutton. He also seems to have a decent enough knowledge base of the game, both of his own team and opponents. The Pena/Pina thing, I just don't really care about. I'm sure by now he knows what the correct pronunciation is, and even says it from time to time. Maybe it's a habit he just can't break, maybe it's an inside joke between him and Pina for all I know. But it's not something I even really notice anymore.
  5. Home announcers should be clearly be fans of their team and demonstrate proper excitement for them, but have sufficient knowledge of the opposing team and show respect for them, in my opinion.
  6. Good grief Taylor. Should never have to worry about bringing in your closer up 6-0 in the 9th.
  7. Haven't you been vocal that you hate Milone because because he's just a journeyman with no future here? Nieuwenhuis is nothing more than the lineup version of Milone. He has no part of the future here and every AB he gets is one AB less of a sample size that we have to learn what we have with guys like Broxton and Santana. These young guys with a future here need regular, consistent playing time. Not to be jerked around after a slow start less than 10 ABs into the season. Kirk had 392 PAs last season which is insane for a career journeyman backup outfielder on a rebuilding club. He probably would have had 450 if not for the September injury.
  8. Said it before but I wish managers would manage middle innings with runners on like they manage late innings. Those two inherited runs allowed by Marinez was the difference.
  9. Bats have been frustrating to watch in the late innings seeing them choke in the 8th yesterday and go out with a whimper tonight, but I don't care how many times they strike out if they score 5 runs a game. I have a lot more problem with the number 5 being not enough to win than I have with the number of 2200+ strikeouts.
  10. What an atrocious AB by Herman. Looks like he's really improved his plate discipline this year.
  11. That 2-1 to Thames was not a strike. That said, how many more times are we going to go down staring like this?
  12. I think this is perfectly reasonable. It reminds me of the despicable people that made chanting 'What?' after every single sentence in a WWE interview a thing.
  13. Making it clear that I'm referring to what I saw last year too, not just today and yesterday, but I haven't gotten the early impression of Arcia's glove being as good as advertised.
  14. And again. These pitches were strikes on gameday and some in the zone have been called balls. The strike zone has been fine. It's supposed to be at the top of the knees now, even looking back on it it looks like it crosses at the bottom/middle part of his knees at best. Did Gameday incorporate the new strike zone?
  15. All off-season MLB hemmed and hawed that the low strike wasn't going to be called anymore and it's taken all of 2 games to see that the umpires are going to call the strike zone the same way they always have.
  16. While Shaw has a long ways to go to prove anything, the pitching sucking has been pretty well anticipated.
  17. Milone is a sunk cost now that they kept him for whatever puzzling reason. I would have cut Milone, kept Suter, and now that Guerra is hurt I would have brought up Lopez to take his spot for awhile.
  18. Games have been close. I don't think Counsell has any trust in Jungmann. Well hopefully he feels the same on Marinez now too. I was hoping they would go with Knebel, and while it's hard to question it this early in the season when relievers haven't established much of an identity, I hate when managers refuse to put in their best relievers in key situations to put out a fire in the middle of the game because 'Its too early. ' Runs in the 5th count for the same as runs in the 9th. If Knebel comes in in the 5th and doesn't allow either inherited runner this game is in a lot different situation.
  19. Brian: 'Suter has never been on anyone's prospect list.' BA obviously has never met Clancy.
  20. I'm amazed that righties don't just tee off on Suter.
  21. This pitching staff is bad enough without giving up 6 free runners in 5 1/3rd innings. Throw strikes!
