  1. I think when most of us were saying we aren't better off without Gomez, we're saying in a vacuum without consideration to our return or the fact that we're rebuilding. Now obviously if he continues to OPS .500, every team is better off without him, but I don't believe he's just suddenly that bad of a player.
  2. I'd be in favor of a scoring category called 'Other Error' or 'Uncategorized Error' that covered situations such as a player losing the ball in the lights, two fielders stopping and letting a ball bounce between them, or any situation where a physical error was not comitted but a batter reached base on something that should have been an out. This would be an error charged to the team but not an individual player. It would avoid penalizing a pitcher for something that should have been an out.
  3. I don't think anyone is denying that Gomez has been horrible this year. That's not a reason for us to dislike him, that's a reason for Astros fans. He was great for us. And just because he's been horrible for them this year doesn't mean we'd be better off without him. We still lack a true CF and I would expect better numbers here than what he's putting up right now.
  4. What does this mean? I assume you're saying that they're better off without Gomez, but how? What does not having Gomez on the team do that was hindered by having him there? I'm serious about these questions. He played 5+ seasons in Milwaukee and was worth 16 WARP, but people seem to think the Brewers are so much better off without him. It's easy to look at it now and say it was good to get rid of him, but what if he was playing like 2014 Gomez? Would people still feel this way? Yeah, the Gomez hate from Brewer fans makes zero sense to me. The guy was far, far better for us than any team he's played for in his career. He earned his salary here many times over and was our best player easily in 2013 and 2014 and combined for over 13 WAR in those 2 seasons! Did he make an above average amount of baserunning errors and mental mistakes, yes, did he make up for it in many other ways and were we a much better team with him, absolutely.
  5. I'd take Gomez back in a second this year if we're talking about for basically nothing, but I can't imagine the Astros would go for that no matter how much they want to get rid of him. I can't think of any example where a team gave up substantial prospects at the deadline for a major player and said player ended up being so bad that he was given back for basically nothing within a year. I think that would be an incredibly tough pill to swallow for the Astros FO and their fans.
  6. Scooter looks like he could have used more time on the DL. Looking horrible at the plate since his return.
  7. Love Villar but he is the anti clutch in key situatons.
  8. If you have DVR, go back and look at the first pitch to Nieuwenhuis. Tell me that's not one of the worst called strikes you'll ever see.
  9. Difference between Wily was supposed to have far better upside to have a high spot in the rotation, not a Davies or Anderson type just filling out the bottom of the rotation. Guys like Nelson and Peralta are crucial to how long this rebuild will last. Guys like Davies and Guerra can be replaced easily.
  10. Talk about a victim of bad timing. A year ago, he'd have been worth 20-25M a year on the FA market easily. The way he's headed, he won't even get a qualifying offer this fall.
  11. Villar has been a really nice surprise. He's almost like a poor man's Ben Zobrist.
  12. Blowing way too many scoring opportunities tonight.
  13. Really quite meaningless in the grand scheme of things. He already has a virtual no trade clause seeing the six teams he can't block a trade to don't make a whole lot of sense. Well maybe the Angels, but they don't have anything to trade for him. Looking at his NTC he can't block a trade to any NL West team besides the Rockies. The West is a total logjam right now with every team within 2.5 games. If it stays that competitive near the deadline, I wonder if that could work to our advantage. One of these teams might see a Braun trade as one putting them over the top in their division.
  14. Also FWIW: Eating some, not a majority of his salary is not a problem, but it's going to take, and should take, a significant return to make that happen. There seems to be at least some public perception, mostly because of his past PED history and the Brewers' rebuilding state, that they are willing to eat half Braun's salary and just give him up for a couple low level 'B' prospects just to be rid of him. That won't happen and Stearns is too smart to let that happen. If that's truly the trade market for a healthy and productive Braun, there's no purpose of trading him.
  15. I have to stop listening to talk radio. Yesterday the host said that he thinks the Brewers already have 2 top of the rotation starters with Peralta and Nelson, then went on to say that if Hill keeps playing well, we should be able to trade him at the deadline for a front line pitching prospect. I had to turn it off before I heard any more.
  16. Carter needs a day off. He is not seeing it well at all lately.
  17. That was a while lot of hooting and hollering from Marlin fans for a pitch that was 6 inches off the inside corner.
  18. Well, if it makes anyone feel better, Villar wouldn't have scored from 2nd on that.
  19. You would think by now he would get nothing but get me over fastballs.
