  1. We're rebuilding, we kind of have to be. What good is Jonathan Lucroy going to do us in 3 years? Unless you're just not crazy about Tate or Gallo as prospects.
  2. Scooter just isn't a very good player. He's not a great defender, doesn't hit for average or power, isn't particularly fast, and doesn't get on base. There's no part of his game that's good enough to make me want to bank on him as our 2B of the future. Obviously you don't want to see that kind of mental mistake out of anyone but Scooter of all players certainly doesn't have the stat line this year to be able to overlook a mistake like that.
  3. Worst loss of the season. Counsell got way too comfy with a big lead leaving Blazek in to throw 34 pitches when he clearly didn't have it.
  4. Hey, way to redeem yourself, Scooter. Bench him tomorrow
  5. Awful bonehead play by Scooter. Terrible management from Counsell leaving Blazek out to give up 5 today. What an absolute choke job today.
  6. Wow, this is absolute crap, and we're going to lose the game on it. Out of challenges? No problem, just go tell the umpire that you want another one.
  7. Definitely not what we were hoping for from a Braun PH appearance.
  8. I think we're in a good position to take a bad contract to maximize our return if necessary. Prince is actually owed $18M a year every year now through 2020 by the Rangers. A good meeting point might be at us taking on $48M, which is a huge sum to eat but potentially worth the right return. If the Rangers covered his contract the rest of the year and eat $6M a year going forward like the Tigers are doing, that would leave us to pay Prince $12M a year through 2020. That's not hamstringing us and there is always the possibility that Prince would at least start to resemble a respectable hitter again if not a shell of his old self, and then $12M wouldn't look bad at all and could even open the door to deal him again.
  9. Even if you're going to retaliate, got to pick and choose your spots. Plunking a sure out to lead off the inning in a 2-1 game with the top of the order coming up is a pretty stupid way to do it, and I'm glad they paid for it. Shows quite a bit about how much the Reds really care about winning games.
  10. If it were up to me, I'd go with an 8 reliever pen. Reason being I would like to see us try an approach like the Royals and Rays last year of severely limiting the work of our starting pithers. Statistically it's been shown that hitters' chances increase greatly the 3rd time they see a pitcher. Without looking it up, it does seem like the 6th inning is our toughest one. With our weak rotation but strong bullpen I could see this approach making a lot of sense for us.
  11. As far as I can tell both the Brewers and Reds were 14-21 at the time that Marinez was acquired. So I'm not sure who would have had waiver priority.
  12. Shocker. Another person in the MLB world that just believes we should just take whatever is given to us and like it. In this case we are lucky enough to get one of our own homegrown back but in doing so we get him as a shell of his former self and ONLY have to pay him just a smidgeon over $100 million. Ridiculous. Tate and Gallo is taking whatever is given to us and liking it? If that's the case, I sure like that. Obviously Prince in this deal is the burden we take on to get such a return. 110M is way too much to eat, but the rest of the deal is a dream scenario.
  13. I was begging us not to pay Prince that kind of coin. So glad we didn't. Although this deal is very attractive I'd have to think the Rangers would need to eat a substantial amount. $110M is just too much even for that return. Still I'd do this deal in a heatbeat, but it's not my money.
  14. The Pirates saved us 3 million dollars by acquiring ARam. I would say that was our biggest benefit of substance. I was pleasantly surprised that Barrios was in contention for our pen this year, though, it's unfortunate that he ended up injured. Most likely a Hill trade will be similarly structured; save us a couple million and get a guy with a chance to be a bench player or reliever someday.
  15. Every sort of difficult defensive play is amazing to him as well. He's just really annoying overall. Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's enamored with him which seems to be contrary to the general consensus of this board. Given all the national gigs that BA lands, I would say that that general consensus goes well outside just this board. To each their own, but after hearing other team's commentators, I certainly appreciate what we have with BA. I suppose different folks have different tastes so I don't think any one commentator is going to enamor everyone.
  16. Unless he's gone on a hot streak since I last checked, Diaz has been pretty disappointing this year. Not giving up on him of course.
  17. As much flak as Villar rightfully catches for his baserunning, he ended up being safe and we wouldn't have scored without it, so it's hard to be too mad at him for that one. 1st and 2nd with 1 out isn't a bad situation to try a double steal.
  18. The passive approaches at the plate with RISP and 2 out are really frustrating. There's never a good time to strike out looking for the 3rd out but having 2 in scoring position is an especially bad time. Need to protect better than that.
  19. Chris Capuano stats are horrible. He deserves to be DFA. I don't know if I would say horrible. He gives up too many walks and HRs, but his K rate is solid and ERA is passable (would be better if not for a bogus non-K call in his last outing). I would say he's the weak link in the pen though and someone has to go.
  20. They are going to have some really tough choices to make when Smith and Knebel return. Cappy doesn't really deserve to be DFA'ed when he comes off the DL, but he probably will be.
  21. Anyone wanting to see the young guys play should love this lineup for the most part. Santana eligible to come off the DL next week?
  22. Im sorry, I was not clear. What I meant to say was, if Chris Carter were a Free Agent right now. What could he command on the open market. After the start he has had, you think he would only command the league minimum? If that's the case, then yes, he is worthless, do not trade him. Also, why the heck are we paying him 2.5 million if he could only now get league min from every other team, is Milwaukee really that bad a place to live and play? Ok, I was responding to the literal part you said about the Brewers releasing him. In that case, it's my understanding that his 2.5M salary would apply still, which we would be on the hook for, and the only relied we'd get from it would be the prorated minimum from whatever club signed him. That's how it worked when we released Suppan in 2010 and St. Louis signed him. I don't think they can just double dip on salary when released. I do understand, what you're asking, so completely hypothetically, if he were a FA now and teams were able to bid on him based on his numbers so far this year, based on need around the league, I would guess he is worth about a $5M annual salary right now. Prorated that would be about 3M for the rest of the season.
  23. I'm not a real expert on these things but isn't a relief pitcher going back into the game after such a long delay...a bit unusual at the very least?
