  1. I also thought a trade involving Braun with Washington with us taking back Werth and getting a very nice return in exchange, made a lot of sense. But Werth has a full NTC and I doubt he'd waive it to come to Milwaukee and rebuild.
  2. It does this year, but it didn't last year. As mentioned in post 146, the teams that Ryan can't block a trade to this year are the Diamondbacks, Angels, Dodgers, Marlins, Padres and Giants. Interesting, how does that work? Does Braun have complete control over the 6 teams or does the team have any say? Seems like it would be pretty easy to manipulate that list from year to year to only include teams that you know aren't going to be trading for you.
  3. I would think more, but still certainly unlikely. Still, Braun and Lucroy would be huge additions to their lineup.
  4. Plus I'm pretty sure Braun's no-trade clause doesn't include Washington, one less obstacle to get around.
  5. Tell that to Andres Gallaraga. Or wait til someone loses the World Series on a botched call. Replay doesn't hurt drama and excitement. If anything, it adds to it. Everyone remembers Rodgers hitting Janis with a Hail Mary and Janis snagging it between 2 defenders. I don't think anyone really cares that they reviewed it.
  6. Replay isn't perfect, but it's better than getting the calls wrong, I agree. Regardless, it's here to stay, just like in every other sport. We have the technology to get the calls right. I wouldn't be in favor of penalizing for failed challenges, but I do agree some reviews are unnecessarily long. If you can't tell in 30 seconds, to me, it's not conclusive.
  7. If you had to me that Braun, Lucroy, and Carter would be mashing near the middle of May as much as they are and Jeffress was perfect in save opportunities, I'd probably have guessed we were surprising some people, not on pace for 60 wins. I didn't think the rotation would be anything special but I never imagined they would be this atrocious.
  8. That's just flat out negligence by the 1st base ump. You don't miss a call like that unless you just flat out aren't paying attention.
  9. I can't express enough how awful it is having an AAA affiliate in Colorado Springs. They can't get out of there soon enough. It doesn't make any sense for any MLB team besides the Rockies to have an affiliate in Colorado Springs.
  10. The 'logic' behind that conventional thinking is so horrible, too. (Well, who are you going to have at the end to pick for the 'save' if you've already used your closer?) For some reason according to basically every manager in baseball, only your closer can be trusted to record the last 3 outs with a small lead, but any schlub in your pen can be thrown in to the game with the score tied in a sudden death situation.
  11. I find the practice or throwing back opposing HRs outside of Wrigley annoying. If you want to copy the Cubs, go cheer for the Cubs.
  12. Here are the current ERAs of every starter for us this year besides Nelson. Cravy - 6.52 Davies - 6.98 Jungmann - 9.15 Guerra - 7.20 Peralta - 7.50 Let that sink in for a moment. Over 5 is very bad. We don't have a starter besides Nelson under 6 and a half.
  13. There were some real duds back in the early 2000s, but they at least had Sheets. As I type this, another run. I don't remember exactly what the stat was, maybe it was least quality starts, but some pitching record for futility I heard we're on pace to just shatter it.
  14. This is probably going to be our worst rotation in franchise history. No exaggeration.
  15. I can't tell you how happy it made me to see Counsell go against the awful 'conventional wisdom' of saving your closer on the road in extras.
  16. If we had anything close to an average rotation we would probably be around a .500 ball club. The rest of the team seeks to be in respectable shape right now. CF is a pretty big hole, but otherwise, the IF looks okay, and will look better with Arcia. We could get by with a much shorter rebuild if we had any promising starting pitching in the pipeline, but it's mostly just more question marks.
  17. I don't totally agree, but I don't totally disagree either. On one hand I think people are expecting a bit too much from Arcia based on his prospect rating. No, he's not going to come up here and win any batting titles. But, he's a better hitter than Escobar ever was. I think he'll settle in as a .280-.290 hitter with a .750 OPS or so and a slick glove. For a SS, that's pretty solid.
  18. If we had a contending team with holes at catcher and OF but respectable play at SS and money was no factor, I'd absolutely trade Arcia for Braun and Lucroy. As a rebuilding club, definitely not.
  19. The unfortunate reality IMO is that this rebuild will extend for as long as it takes for us to assemble at least a respectable rotation. Our farm system has greatly improved, but I don't see enough quality starting pitching in the pipeline to contend by 2018. We don't see a Zack Greinke in free agency every offseason, and even if we do, we're not going to drop 35M a year for one. Rebuilding this rotation won't happen overnight. You could easily argue right now that 4 out of our 5 starters don't even belong in a major league rotation.
  20. Sorry Briggs, I have a lot of problems with this one. 1 - A 50 HR pace in May means little. 2 - There's no reason for Arcia to come up anytime soon, especially with Villar playing well. 3 - Our bullpen is 28th in MLB, so let's not get too excited. Jeffress looks good. I don't see a ton of arms to hinge our future on. 4 - Nelson is not an emerging ace, or really even close to one. He's still got a career ERA over 4. I'm excited about what he's doing, but mostly just because there is absolutely nothing else on the pitching staff to get excited about. Let's give him more than 6 starts before getting too far ahead of ourselves. 5 - Lacking. ..basically 80% of a rotation as you put it yourself is kind of a problem. Sorry, I understand trying to get excited, it's a long summer, but this feels like the only proverbial lipstick on the pig.
  21. Dude has a .551 OPS. I'm scared to ask what you expected.
  22. You know we're in trouble when a pitcher with an ERA near 6 is one of the better ones on the staff.
  23. Revise what? We are on pace for 68 wins which is about right on schedule. There will be spurts where we look better than that (right now) and spurts where we look much worse. The rotation is miles away from even dreaming of contention.
