  1. The Segura out at home aside, they are lucky it's only 3-0 and not 6-0 or 7-0.
  2. You want to say Segura needs to run it out all the way but in practice it's assumed that if the on-deck guy isn't there signalling for it, there isn't a play. What was Lucroy doing this whole time?
  3. Henderson is, and should be, our closer. I hope Roenicke eventually gives up on the bizarre idea that for some reason, Axford needs to be worked back into that role at some point.
  4. You make it sound like he's at best a #4. Yes the state of our farm system isn't that great when it comes to pitching. There are guys there though Right now? He is at best a #4. Has the "potential" to be a #2. But, so did Parra.
  5. That was one of those situations where just because Peralta got out of it doesn't mean that Roenicke made the right call to leave him in. Sometimes you get lucky.
  6. At least he finished it up for a "quality start". Not that Peralta doesn't have talent to maybe be a good pitcher in the future, but it makes me kind of sad that this is literally the best starting pitching prospect we have had since Gallardo. That's awful.
  7. Not sure how Peralta has been good this year. He's been carrying an ERA over 5.00 since his April 16th disaster against the Giants. He's allowed twice as many hits as K's and nearly as many walks as K's - a guy who is supposed to be a strikeout pitcher. Not saying potential isn't there, but I wouldn't say he's been good, aside from a couple starts.
  8. Go ahead and let the computers call the balls and strikes, I'm ready for it.
  9. Somebody please tell me again about how umpires get 99% of calls right, and that they are really good at what they do. This becomes less believable every time we get screwed over by a bad call.
  10. How is this a good thing? Sure there are guys who have the potential to be league average players at their position (Morris, Gennett), but this only really gives us a cost-effective option at the position, it doesn't help us be competitive. There isn't a Braun, a Fielder, or even a Hart in the system right now. There isn't a can't-miss pitching prospect, just mostly quite a few guys that fit into the range of q #3 starter at best down to a hopeful middle reliever.
  11. Sure it is. Everyone knows you won't hit with every prospect. But if just one of four 10 million dollar investments turn into an elite talent, that's a lot better investment of 40 million for 6 years of that player than 4 years of a veteran #3 starter. 10 million is an extreme example anyway. Even just a couple million more invested in the farm system and scouting every year would likely make a big difference.
  12. No matter what anyone else says about Roenicke, I'll never get over the starting of Kotsay at CF in the NLCS. It was unforgivable. He tried to get too cute, and he paid the price. I don't think people fully appreciate how bad of a decision it was to start Kotsay in CF. I'm not going to call him a moron or anything, but I will call him stubborn. I don't think he can be convinced that there are better ways to do certain things than the way he does them. He's a good clubhouse manager. He's another Yost. I don't know what makes him better than Yost, aside from having more talent on his teams.
  13. Somebody brought up "signability", and I have to say, passing on guys for "signability" issues drives me nuts. You'll invest $42M in a mediocre starting pitcher, but you're going to pass on 6 years of a potentially elite player over a difference of a million bucks? You want to improve your farm system, take the best available player every time. If you have to increase your draft budget by $3-$4M at the expense of your MLB budget, so be it. It'll pay off in the long run.
  14. Just a pathetic, embarrassing series, which they'll get a day off to think about tomorrrow.
  15. I just don't know who would be a better option in this lineup today. Maybe Gomez. I still don't trust Weeks there.
  16. I can't even be mad at Gorzellany because he's been so good this year, but come ON, can anything go right EVER against this team?
  17. I'm not even going to say we caught a break there, because they still owe us about 20 breaks.
  18. I don't think anything is wrong with him. They said from the start that they were going to work him in slow and that he wouldn't play the full game yesterday.
  19. How many balls are we going to hit to the warning track this series?
  20. Gomez has been gunned down twice tonight on plays that I thought he had the speed to easily beat out. EDIT: Nevermind, that last one was Maldy. Got used to Gomez hitting after Weeks.
  21. The Cardinals certainly hit a number of balls hard off Lohse, but he also caught some bad luck. 1. If the ump rings up Holliday, no 2 run homer. 2. In the two innings which they scored two runs, twice balls fell in front of Aoki that most rightfielders catch if they aren't playing only 2-3 steps off the warning track as Aoki does. Keep in mind both innings the two runs scored with two outs. I have no problem with the non-strike call on Lohse, it was close enough off to justify not calling it. Probably missed the plate by an inch. Still on Lohse for giving up a 450 foot moonshot after that. What I have a problem with is the inconsistency, where worse pitches the following inning to Estrada and Segura resulted in ringups.
