  1. Axford has thrown a grand total of 14 innings against the Astros in his career, including tonight. I think every manager should be required to take a Statistics class. I would like to introduce Roenicke to something that you learn in the first 2 weeks called "Coincidence".
  2. "K-Rod has been throwing the ball pretty well." Is Augustine becoming senile?
  3. Manny Parra has not pitched since July 24th. Is there any good reason that the Brewers have chosen to go with a 24 man roster since then?
  4. Oh, and one more thing. When 1st and 2nd are BOTH open with 1 out, and the guy on deck is hitting .056, is it really the worst thing in the world to walk a guy? You know, put the infield back at normal depth so a ground ball let's you get out of this thing? No...let's just bring in the infield in and hope for the best. It's sad when this was the least of RR's failures tonight. Roenicke on Gamel: "I don't think he's a guy you can say, 'Oh yeah, he can definitely do it.' " Pretty much the same way most Brewer fans feel about you, Ron.
  5. Augustine: "Roenicke said he is going to go with whatever he feels is the best matchup and what he feels best about, from here on out." Then the Brewers are doomed, because we may as well pick the relievers with darts than let the mind of Ron Roenicke decide it.
  6. Seriously, with the bunting man. What the hell is wrong with you? Do you not realize that one of the elements of the squeeze play is to catch the other team off guard, it is not meant to be used as a regular routing with a runner on 3rd and 1 out? And the relievers...oh yes, they're bad, but we finally had something going with Henderson, and he figures he can roll the dice and try the old KRod/Axford combination in the 8th/9th again, and predictably, another blown game. 2011 was a long time ago, Ron. Can one of the RR apologists please tell me how he is qualified to be an MLB manager with reasoning that goes beyond his team winning 96 games last year and the players liking him?
  7. Totally had to come in with a strike there, it's not like they had a base open to set up the double play.
  8. They were off yesterday. There's no excuse. He wanted to get cute and get Axford back in the closer's role and took someone who had been effective in that role out of it to accomplish this.
  9. I like how Roenicke thought he could just go back to K-Rod in the 8th and Axford in the 9th again tonight, and it would magically go back to 2011.
  10. If you had to pin me down for equal value, I would say it would take something like Lucroy + Segura + Peralta + Gennett. Way more than we would be willing to give up, and possibly not even enough for the Nats, so either way, would never happen. Elite young pitchers with three more years of club control generally don't get traded for that reason.
  11. Possibly. But I'm willing to bet that with only about $55-$60M of the payroll spoken for, and SS now taken care of, he's going to look at a FA starter. I think he's going to wait and see what the Greinke market looks like, and if it's not out of hand, there may be an offer made to Greinke. If the market ends up significantly over what we last offered him, Melvin will duck out of that and start looking at the next tier of FA's. Just my opinion.
  12. In 2010 the Brewers had a very dangerous lineup. Their rotation and bullpen, not so much. 2013 could wind up a lot like 2010. You can assume the 2013 rotation will be better, but you don't know it will be better than Gallardo/Wolf/Narveson/Bush/Capuano/Parra/Suppan (I think Davis was in that mix too). I'd say the young arms that will be in the 2013 rotation have far more upside than the 2010 rotation did, but they're still unknown. Gallardo and Fiers are really the only knowns. Well alluding to my earlier post, I would assume that a rotation of Gallardo/Kuroda/Edwin Jackson/Fiers/Thornburg would be a LOT better than Gallardo/Wolf/Narveson/Bush/Capuano/Parra/Suppan.
  13. You know Mark A's philosophy is generally to try to field a contender every year. Plus, next year may be Hart's last with the Brewers, and I don't think the Brewers are hanging onto A-Ram with the intention of not trying to contend at some point before he leaves. If Gomez keeps doing what he is, and Rickie avoids the first half slump next year, the 2013 lineup looks very dangerous. Aoki/Lucroy/Braun/Ramirez/Hart/Weeks/Gomez/Segura. I'd be very surprised if they don't seek a FA SP or two in free agency, especially having the available money for it. Not that I would mind seeing what the younger guys can do, but I would be surprised if they do. I think Gallardo, Fiers, and Estrada are probably good for the rotation next year, and Thornburg/Peralta/Rogers will all battle it out IN spring training if those spots aren't spoken for already. Although I don't think that relegating Estrada back to the bullpen next year would be the worst thing in the world.
  14. If we could get Edwin Jackson for 3/30 and Hiroki Kuroda for 2/24, I would be ecstatic with those additions. 1) Gallardo 2) Kuroda 3) Jackson 4) Fiers 5) Thornburg Personally, I'd rather have Kuroda + Jackson at $23M than Greinke at $23M. Depending on how high the payroll goes next year, that would still leave us with $20M or so in wiggle room and to fix the bullpen. That's another thing that the Greinke trade does for us -- if we wouldn't have done it, we would still need to go find a SS free agent next year, now we don't. We still need to invest in a better utility infielder though than Izturis, and should plan on investing at least $3M for that this time.
  15. Raise your hand if you had Jim Henderson penciled in as the closer by August back in spring training.
  16. I don't know why anyone would even consider Wolf back next year on his option. I cant think of too many worse investments of 8.5 M of payroll.
  17. How good can this guy be? I'm way past the point of hoping he can be a good #5. There's clearly more he has to offer. And the best part is that he's going to cost us less than 2 million dollars all the way through 2015.
  18. Fiers has gone 8 innings and allowed 1 run. But I have serious doubts about the bullpen's ability to go 1 inning and allow less than 2.
  19. Do we really know if we were over budget, though? We do have revenue from that new TV deal coming, and I thought I remember the Brewers were profitable to the tune of $17M or so last year. I love Mark A, but I don't think he's entirely transparent sometimes. Not accusing him of hiding anything, just saying that he seems to want us to believe every year that it's going to take a miracle for him to just break even, and I doubt that's the case. Mark A is a smart man and a businessman, and I doubt he bought the Brewers with the intention of ever operating at a loss.
