  1. Sometimes when I see the Brewers start putting together a potential rally, I wish someone would gag and tie up Roenicke and throw him in a closet somewhere in the clubhouse until the game is over, because it's usually a strong possibility that Roenicke will manage his way out of scoring when he could have DONE NOTHING and gotten better results.
  2. I would do that in a heartbeat. Don't think the Rangers would.
  3. Do they have anything that could be of interest? I've heard not, but I have to admit I know nothing about the White Sox' system.
  4. What's even more annoying is that Sedar obviously got caught off guard too.
  5. Roenicke is completely out of control. We're seeing more regular bunts in FRONT of the pitcher.
  6. Heyman said the Braves will definitely be targeting Greinke, which makes sense. So don't be shocked if the deal centered around Delgado ends up being reality. I'm still holding out hope that we can do better, but if it came down to the deadline and it was either take Delgado or hold onto Greinke for the pick, I'd definitely take Delgado.
  7. He was one of the best pitchers in baseball prior to last year. Durability is a question mark, but ability certainly isn't. I think the big X-factor for the Rangers would be having him next year as well. The Ranger's clearly prefer to do something with more than 2012 in mind, and I can't blame them. I hate rentals for the Brewers, personally.
  8. "The Cubs now plan to keep Dempster and make him a qualifying offer after the season, ESPN.com's Buster Olney tweets. Doing so would allow the Cubs to collect a compensatory draft pick in 2013." Fine by me. The less pitchers on the market, the better, and this will definitely increase the Dodger's interest in Greinke.
  9. will never happen. The Rangers didn't want to give up Olt for Greinke, and are only giving up Olt for Johnson because they can control Johnson in 2013. Have the Rangers specifically said they wouldn't give up Olt for Greinke? I don't remember ever seeing anything that said they wouldn't. I wouldn't be surprised if they won't, but that could change in an instant based on circumstances -- Johnson gets traded to the Dodgers, etc.
  10. I see it differently. Hang onto him and the demand is reduced as the main suitors for SP sign others. Wait until the deadline and Melvin has almost no leverage. Every GM in baseball knows that he has no incentive to hang onto Greinke, as we're not a playoff team and Greinke hasn't accepted our offers to re-sign. You don't need to take the first offer that comes your way, but I wouldn't pass up a really good one. Teams have other options than Greinke right now.
  11. For those who don't like a Randall Delgado return for Greinke, consider this -- if you consider the market FA value for a #3 starter to be $10M a year, which using Wolf as a standard, it is, and consider that Delgado is under control for the next 5 years as a pre-arby and arby player, and assuming he gets $4M, $6M, and $8M in arbitration, he's more than $30M in savings over those 5 years over trying to fill the middle of the rotation through free agency. It's not exciting, but that's not a bad return for a rental. Of course, if we can get a higher upside player, I'm all for it.
  12. I don't think Johnson for Olt is unrealistic at all. Johnson, when healthy, is worth every bit as much as Greinke. For just strictly the 10-12 starts the rest of the season, I'd prefer to have Greinke, but Johnson is under contract next year and therefore not a rental, which makes him worth more IMO.
  13. My point is that if Olt is the best player they can get, they should avoid him because they do not have a current trade partner for Aramis. I am still up for trading Ramirez even if they don't get Olt. Well I do want to see them trade Aramis, but I agree with this. Take the best player that you can get in trade for Greinke, regardless of any other circumstances. Doesn't matter if the Reds or Cardinals are making the offer, take the best you can get.
  14. Olt doesn't need to start this year or next year. If you get Olt, you are not forced to trade Aramis. You are not forced to, but it would be a good idea. If they want to get out of that contract, this might be their last chance, and Ramirez has no value to us if we're not likely contenders in '13 and '14.
  15. I don't think they will get Olt. I would love it if they do, but if you get Olt, I think you need to find a taker for Aramis before the deadline, too. Otherwise, I would settle for a package with the Braves centered around Delgado.
  16. Does anyone think there is ANY chance of the Brewers standing pat and still having Greinke on the team on August 1st? That would be pretty upsetting.
  17. I've somewhat took the position, ever since the Suppan signing, that Mark A. takes the rein in certain traditional GM decisions. Mark A. is a great owner, but he needs to step back and just be the owner and not the GM. I think there are times when it is hard for him not to, and I think there are times when he's made Melvin look like a pretty bad GM as a result when he's probably really not. Of course, this is just my theory, I don't think we've ever actually had proof in our faces that Mark A. is behind most of the organizational decisions.
  18. I'd feel inclined to think that most other teams are also 5 players away from being contenders.
  19. I can't see any contenders being interested in Wolf. Or any non-contenders, for that matter.
  20. I disagree. Bullpens are a crapshoot from year to year. We did the veteran reliever approach this year, went out and re-signed K-Rod in arby, traded for Veras, and it's gotten us nowhere. When Axford dominated in 2010 and 2011, he was a nobody that came out of nowhere. Relievers are mostly a roll of the dice, and the consistent ones are increasingly rare. So, I'd like to see some of the young guys get a shot, it certainly couldn't be worse than this year. That's not to say that we can't get veterans into the mix too, but the last thing I would want to see is Doug overreact and go out and spend $20-$25M on the bullpen. Not that it would shock me.
  21. Yeah, I'm with Trwi on this one. Why on earth does improving the bullpen matter right now? We're not contenders this year, and the majority of the pen is going to be blown up after this season anyway. Why not work on improving the pen then? Why now, when we're just playing out the fiddle anyway? You can audition a few guys in September callups if you want, but you're still not going to learn much in that short period of time.
  22. I guess he could get 5/$125 maybe, even though I don't think he's worth that. Or I can see a scenario where no one tops 5/$110 in a free agency offer. You just never know. Unless he think he's going to get a CC Sabathia type contract, it's definitely a huge risk, both against a deflated market and against possible injury. I guess if it's me, and I have $112M on the table to play somewhere I like to be, I'm taking it, there's no way I'm risking it all over the difference between $112 and $125. I guess that's easy for me to say having never been in that situation, but I'd have a hard time thinking I'd feel any differently if I was. There is very little difference between $112M and $125M -- either way you are set up for life, if you're smart. So either A) It wasn't 5/$112, it was more like 5/$100 B) Greinke really doesn't like being in Milwaukee as much as he says C) He's convinced he can break the bank in free agency
  23. Unfortunately for him, it's not his choice. Unless he takes the contract offer, which he won't. I agree, it's not like we didn't try. We offered you 5/$112, Zack. You market in April was probably more like 5/$90. If you want to be a FA, that's fine, but you gotta do what you gotta do and so do we.
  24. Well, there's nothing stopping us from trading as a rental, and then making a run at him in the offseason. I think Greinke understands the business side of it, and I hope Melvin makes it known to Greinke that that is a possibility that he is willing to pursue and hope that Greinke leaves that door open as well. Really, that's best case scenario. Rent a guy out for 2 months for a return when you won't need him anyway, and then bring him back. It's rare, but it's been done.
  25. So, they still interested?
