  1. What is up with Rickie and absolutely horrible execution on double plays in the 9th?
  2. Boy, Yost is going to do anything he can this year to pound the Gagne sized peg into the circled hole.
  3. Did they really? Wow, I'm glad that didn't pan out. He's pretty much Tony Gwynn Jr, only TGJ can actually play defense and actually has a great arm. Not a knock on TGJ, he's not garbage, but the idea of giving him a huge multi-million dollar deal is laughable.
  4. Haha Villy walked on 4 pitches. Sweet!
  5. I am glad that Bill and Brian acknowledged that Martin is generally a good defensive catcher. It seems many journalists have this false belief that good hitting catchers are always poor at fielding.
  6. Brian Anderson mentioned tonight on the broadcast that Gallardo told him he would return to the rotation in September. This was followed by very successful surgery and he is jumping right into the rehab tommorrow. Depending on how his rehab goes, it's plausible he could be ready by then. Obviously, what he said is quite possibly just his own optimism. But just the possibility that we could have him for the stretch run in the last month if we can hold it together is very encouraging.
  7. I genuinely think Boras probably called Gagne today, told him he better shut up and figure it out if he wants one last multi-million dollar contract, and Gagne listened. He went from flat out admitting he wasn't good enough to be the closer and shouldn't be the closer, to having one normal day off, to being ready to be the closer again. Yeah.
  8. Who was it yesterday that asked how much we'd pay for a reliever who was guaranteed to give up exactly 1 run per inning, no matter what? I want that guy. Sign that guy now.
  9. Seriously, we can't be comfortable taking a 6 run lead into the 9th this year....6??? Seriously??
  10. Personally, I don't know what to think. On the one hand, I think it's great that he thinks he can go out there and get the job done. Yet, I wonder if he's just fooling himself, and everyone else, with his new found confidence. I guess it's up to Yost now to decide if Gagne can get the job done. He could be thinking, "Crap. I'll lose out on HOW much potential money if I don't earn saves the rest of the year?"
  11. I wonder what position Gamel ends up being an everyday starter at?
  12. I would think the guy has to have good value. #1, you have a guaranteed closer for save situations in the 9th except in a 1 run game. (roughly 35 times a year) That's 35/35 in save situations throughout the season, and 35 runs that wouldn't make a bit of difference. Not a single blown save. For the 15 or so 1 run leads you have going into the 9th throughout the year, you use your other relievers and still win 12 out of 15 or so. That's 47 of 50 save situations converted. That's as good as any team can ask for.
  13. Nope, unless we're on the road and scored 2 or more runs in the top of the inning. (April 20th, at Cincy).
  14. Analyzing this a little bit... First of all, it seems we are assuming this reliever is only used for save situations of greater than one run? So that's 2-3 run leads in the 9th inning. The problem is, there is no way we would find 80 innings for him in a year. Looking back at our schedule, this reliever would have 8 innings of work so far: April 12th at NYM, April 13th at NYM, April 17th at St. Louis, April 19th at Cincinnati, April 20th at Cincinnati, April 29th at the Cubs, May 4th at Houston, May 11th. We would have won the April 20th game and the May 4th game at Houston, and currently have a 20-17 record. At that pace, he would save us 9 games by the end of the season and pitch 35 innings. Now, that's with our closer struggling tremendously so far. So I'd really estimate that a guy like this under normal circumstances will only win us 5-6 games throughout the season that we otherwise would have lost. Would I pay $10+ million for a guy like that? You bet. Depending on the "rules" of using him, it's possible he could save us more than that. If we're guaranteeing 80 innings from him and he always gives up 1 run per inning, we can always pack it up and call it a win after 7 innings if we're up by 3 or after 6 innings if we're up by 4. Assuming, of course, we are allowed to run him up to 80 innings.
  15. I'm hoping Bush just has one of those rare crazy outing tommorow where he somehow just pitches 8 innings and gives up 0-1 runs.
  16. Plus he's been very good defensively. Doesn't change the fact that he's hitting under the Moeller-line, but the hitting pretty much stinks all around in the lineup right now.
  17. Does the Brewer Radio Network still do the Menards Big Inning? Has anyone ever won it?
  18. I would have said Riske again until a minute ago, now, I'd say Mota.
  19. Schroeder always acts like worst case scenario, saying a couple runs could have scored if Hall makes a bad throw. I suppose Hall could have thrown the ball over Hart into the old Jenkins' jungle, but most likely he would have thrown into right center and Hart would have been there to cut it off.
  20. The book on Prince must be really well established, he seems to hit directly into the shift every time.
  21. I'm sorry, but it's absolutely hilarious that Yost's mom even chews him out about his gametime decisions to the point where he hangs up on her.
