  1. That last AB was the perfect example of why I hate Gwynn batting 2nd with the pitcher batting 8th. Not necessarily the result itself, but the situation. You have your high OBP guys at #9 and #1. You set the stage for RBI's at #2, and Slappy's infield singles aren't going to do that.
  2. Suppan is really getting squeezed out there.
  3. According to Brian Anderson, every pitcher in baseball pitches to contact.
  4. Nice start in the first ....1st and 2nd nobody out, meat of the order coming up...let's do something with it...
  5. I am still baffled as to why Gwynn bats 2nd every time he starts. In this lineup structure, it makes absolutely no sense. The whole purpose of batting the pitcher 8th is to set the stage for RBI situations your #2-#3 hitters.
  6. Little surprised to see no game thread yet, so here goes. Lineup: 2B Rickie Weeks CF Tony Gwynn Jr LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder RF Corey Hart 3B Bill Hall SS JJ Hardy P Jeff Suppan C Jason Kendall
  7. "You guys know me. I take a long time to analyze things." Luckily for Yost, Melvin works the same way.
  8. Also, last year we had a 24-10 record at the beginning of the season to fall back on and give us some cushion -- and it still wasn't enough to save us. Now this year, Yost is pretty much offering us a giant glass of Kool-Aid after every game that says we'll just magically turn it on one game like a faucet and start scoring 7 runs a game, guiding us to another great run which will be enough this year to overcome anything that happens this insanely early in the season, a ludicriously paltry 36 games which certainly isn't enough to make any kind of projections on. Anyone buying it?
  9. We do this all the time...last year, so far this year.... We get a huge, emotional win, usually of the come from behind variety, sometimes one that snaps a long string of losses. Players are excited, coaches are excited, fans are excited.....it looks like a big turning point of the season... And then......we lose a very winnable matchup the next day, and it's right back to square one. When do we ever build momentum off a huge win?
  10. No it wasn't -- If Yost was so concerned about the DP, he could have PH for Kendall. You can't do that. What if Rivera suddenly falls down later in the game and hurts himself?
  11. We are very well built for 2010. I agree with this, and find it extremely depressing at the same time. Back in 2005, it looked like we were VERY well built for 2008.
  12. I'm pretty sure he knows he stinks right now, regardless of what anyone else says. He pretty much came out and said it himself. Is he having confidence issues? Sure, maybe, that's pretty natural when you're stinking up the joint. Most of the lineup probably has confidence issues right now. But confidence isn't his biggest issue -- his biggest issue is simply that he's just not as good or dangerous of a pitcher as he once was. (edit: nested quote --1992)
  13. Now even Gagne, who has everything to lose by being removed from the closer role, basically had to bonk Yost on the head and say, "Hey, anybody home? Have you seen me in the closers role so far this year? You just going to keep letting it ride?" So now Yost will probably make the decision, but if Tony La Russa and Eric Gagne hadn't each given him a nudge, I doubt he budges. Even longtime supporters of Yost are starting to think that he is a completely clueless buffoon.
  14. He's a veteran, former Cy Young closer who has been around the league for many years. I'm not justifying booing him before he even pitches, I don't like that, but if he can't do his job because of a few boos in Milwaukee for 5 blown saves after pitching in L.A. and Boston, then his psyche isn't any stronger than Turnbow's.
  15. Anyone surprised that after the biggest win of the year, they follow it up with a big letdown performance? Critical mistakes in the 8th, and Gagne blows it again in the 9th. Get Gagne out of the closers role and get rid of this entire poor coaching staff. Since all they can seem to do is shrug at the team's ineptitiudes, and have absolutely no answers other than telling them to battle through it, let's let them shrug elsewhere.
  16. Doesn't it seem like Kendall never hangs onto a foul tip that would be strike 3?
  17. Maybe Yost can actually start considering making a change at closer, rather than scoffing, tossing his head back, and calling anyone who thinks he should be removed as closer "ridiculous".
  18. So, can we chalk that mistake up to, A) Bill Hall's head being lost in the clouds, B) Jason Kendall's head being lost in the clouds, or C) Ned Yost scratching an itch.
  19. Hall has got to be the worst baserunner in MLB history.
  20. Lefty specialists simply don't work on Prince.
  21. Got 2, but can't help but be a little disappointed that we didn't get more.
  22. Molina completely fooled the umpire with the frame job, that was high.
  23. I think games are usually blacked out nationwide on MLB.tv on Saturday afternoon games...something to do with Fox owning all the rights...I could be wrong.
