  1. I'm a bit afraid of the "letdown" game today. We're coming off a huge, emotional win. The pitching matchup is well in our favor today, and we should have gotten a big momentum boost after yesterday. This is the game last year that we always seemed to lose, deflating our momentum before it could go anywhere. I hope I'm just being overly cautious, but after everything we've seen in the last week, I can't help it.
  2. Well, as with most games recently, there is no reason to watch this game beyond the first half hour.
  3. What about the managers and coaches whose job is to, you know, lead?
  4. "This copyrighted telecast was brought to you by the authority of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball club and may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form and the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without the express written consent of the Milwaukee Brewers baseball club....and why would you?" Hahaha...did Brian really just say that?
  5. Just as a thought.... Do you think the fact that some players don't feel inclined to listen to their base coaches shows a lack of discipline from the team, and an imbalance of team control between player and coach?
  6. Brian: "(The Marlins manager) can't figure out why the Brewers aren't hitting." Neither can ours, Brian. Unfortunately for us, that is part of his actual job.
  7. We added veteran leadership. We added pitching depth. We added a bunch of bullpen depth in Gagne, Torres, Riske, and Mota. We tightened up the defense. We added a gold glove caliber centerfielder. We got a major league starting catcher. We didn't really regress in any way besides losing Cordero. And....we got worse. If that isn't a telltale sign that we need to start thinking about moving in another direction, I don't know what will be.
  8. I wonder if it will bother Yost when he takes his seat back at home in the dugout and notices his spot on the bench is a little warmer than last time he was home?
  9. We have tons of starting pitching depth. We have at least 4 starters in MLB and 4 starters in AAA who can get hammered on any given night.
  10. http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080508&content_id=2663795&vkey=news_ari&fext=.jsp&c_id=ari Looks like it's all over for Doug Davis' cancer, really good to see, couldn't be happier for the guy.
  11. Another day, another Brewer loss. Well, time to go do something productive.
  12. I always like to see a homeplate ump not get fooled by a hitters ridiculous "dive" out of the way on a pitch right on the inside corner.
  13. As if the odds aren't stacked enough against us scoring 4 runs today, let alone 5.
  14. Well, our hitting with RISP is dipping, at .268 now before the start of tonight's game, which is actually quite good compared to our total team average of .239.
  15. Crap, I really thought we were going to get them in there.
  16. Billy, that was right down main street. Go sit down.
  17. I remember a simpler time not so long ago when Ryan Braun came up against a lefty you could pretty much count on it being either a double or a homerun.
  18. How far has he fallen? Is Hardy one of those guys that we expect to suddenly come around, or is what you see with Hardy right now what we get? It's not just a sudden slump. He hasn't looked good since the early-middle part of last year after his strange MVP-like first two months of 2007. He doesn't hit for a good average and he's never going to be on base a ton. He's not fast. His slugging percentage is absolutely abysmal, he's got 4 extra basehits on the year. At this point, there's really not a single offensive category that he's even average at. Is he just not a starting caliber player? (clarified thread title --1992)
  19. I'm not debating that the Braves are a talented team, I just don't think they have as much overall talent on their roster as we do. But again, this isn't about Cox, it's about Yost, and pointing out a couple managers that have been worse over the last 162 games isn't a very convincing argument that Ned is the right man for the job here.
  20. Just for comparison sake, in their last 162 games... Jim Leyland is 80-82 Ron Gardenhire is 79-83 Bobby Cox is 81-81 Bruce Bochy is 68-94. Which of those guys is a bad manager? Not sure record in the last 162 games is a great way to judge a manager. If you're going to judge a manager by his last 162 games, you have to do it relative to the talent he has had to work with. Ned Yost going 68-94 his first 162 games as a Brewer was a major success. Ned Yost going 75-87 in his last 162 games with us is an utter failure. Bochy has a horrible team to work with. Barry Zito and a complete garbage lineup. Cox has a very proven track record and less talent to work with on his team. Leyland also has a track record for success, but even though his team should be much better than they've been in the last 162, the argument that Yost is doing fine because there are 1-2 managers out there doing worse just doesn't do it for me.
  21. Why doesn't Skaalen tell Hall not to give away the fact that he is taking the pitch by literally relaxing back in his stance??? Would that really be that tough of an adjustment? He's been doing that all year. I don't care if he is going to take the first pitch, but for the love of God, I'm tired of seeing him give it away before the ball even leaves the pitcher's hand.
  22. I can't wait to see Ned step up to the podium after the game, look right at the camera, and say with complete sincerity, "Boy, their pitcher sure threw well. He was just on his game. You have to give him credit."
  23. The Cardinals have the manual "Getting the Most out of the Least" while we seem to be reading "Getting the Least out of the Most".
  24. Another young umpire on a power trip. That's a shocker.
