  1. The Brewers cut Vargas to save $2.5 million instead of having a really good 7th starting option. To pretend that paying Suppan near ace money over the next two years is no big deal or that its an easy to dump contract is foolish. Suppan is getting $27.5 million for 2009 and 2010 for his age 34 and 35 seasons. Why do people think there are that many fools out there dying to take that on? I've pointed this out on several occasions. Suppan's contract is 12.5M for 2009, 12.5M for 2010 with an even bigger team option in '11. That's probably low ace value for a very average pitcher. Nothing against Suppan, but I don't see why any team in MLB takes that contract on straight up. That'd be foolish. Every team has options -- contending teams usually have more. A team that isn't really a prospective contender certainly isn't going to take on Soup's contract. That leaves a smaller mix of teams. Of those teams, if they need to fill a starting pitchers role and have 12.5M a year to spend on a FA or trade, do you really think trading for Suppan, not only paying him but also giving up something to the other team, is going to be one of their first choices? I could see it happening if we end up eating a few million each year from the contract, but otherwise, probably not.
  2. Well, now they're on pace for -62 runs compared to last year. I certainly expect a lot more than that. Also, we were on pace to score 802 runs this year before the last 2 games, which would be 1 more run than last year. And I definitely don't think expecting Hall and Weeks to hit above the Mendoza line, and expecting better OPS's than .612, .737, and .788 out of Hardy, Braun, and Prince is expecting too much.
  3. I'm especially mad today and yesterday because I drove 3 hours from Rapids to Milwaukee twice and back, dropping big bucks on premium seats, to witness the two stinkfests of today and yesterday. It makes me want to not come back again this year -- because I certainly didn't get my moneys worth. I'm not going to be too hard on Mota, he was due to get hit around a little bit, it's not like he's Johnathan Papelbon. If you can't put a single run on the board in 10 innings, you're bound to get beat sooner or later. I'm honestly getting to the point where I'd give Skaalen about two more weeks to turn the offense around and show him the door if he can't. The approach from most of the guys doesn't look good, and Jim straight up admitted tonight that he tells them after every game not to change anything. Yeah, that's a good time to stick with what you're doing, when you're not scoring any runs. It's not like it's just a slow start to the season anymore. It's been a month. I love Gallardo, but we can't expect him to go 7 IP, 0-1 ER all season long. Well, he did his last two outings, and we blew both of them.
  4. Boy, Bruntlett did Turnbow a huge favor there, but I'll take it.
  5. At this point, we can't really afford to send Stetter down again.
  6. This game is looking like a million games last year. We come out rocking in the 1st inning, looking like the 1927 Yankees, and then settle in to looking like the '02 Brewers the rest of the game.
  7. "If there was nobody out or one out, then maybe you'd go to the bench." No you wouldn't, Bill. Then you would probably bunt, no?
  8. Well, another pretty mediocre outing from Bush, but at least he gave us 6.
  9. Hey, it's the same pitch Prince was called out, correctly called a ball this time.
  10. It matters to the extent that we can't teach our guys proper plate discipline if they keep getting hosed like that. I'm really sick of that crap, call the game right. Reed saw the pitch, had a little moment, reacted immediately, and he's just flat-out not doing his job.
  11. Terrible. That wasn't close to being a strike. Regardless, getting 1st and 2nd with nobody out and your 2-3-4 coming up and not even moving them anywhere isn't going to beat Hamels.
  12. Score should be 3-2 right now...that's not bad through 5Not understanding this...why "should" it be 3-2?Because Rickie "should" have been able to complete a standard DP throw to first Hmm, I guess I disagree on that one. That was a pretty slowly hit ball and Prince did scoop it clean, I'm not sure he gets him anyway, I don't think it was standard, it was going to be a bang-bang play at first if we got him.

  14. Bush and Parra both seem to like the idea of being Nashville's ace.
  15. Since Rickie throws it in about the same spot every time, about a foot in front of Prince's glove, I would think that'd be a simple enough adjustment.
  16. It's hard to believe that Hall's .181 average so far this season goes relatively unnoticed, but I guess it's easy to slip that under the radar when everyone else is right around there too.
  17. Note to Bush: Inside corner on right-handed hitters is generous today.
  18. Well good grief, he wasn't even in the first row. It looked like he came down the aisle from the third row to lunge out and steal that one from Billy.
  19. Man, just when I think Braun is starting to come around, he puts together two very ugly AB's.
  20. Nothing against Kapler, but there have been so many balls hit to center this year that I've thought, "Cameron would have had a play on that." That would have been a phenomonal play, though.
