  1. Seriously, what is wrong with "Sharpie" this season? And is it really worth keeping him around after next season for 5M+ a year?
  2. Thanks again, Turnblow. Anyone want to start believing that we have major bullpen problems yet?
  3. Solid performance by the pen tonight, only 4 runs in 3 2/3 this time.
  4. Let's see, people are upset about Davis' very poor first half performance, the bullpen's failures, the inconsistency of the lineup, and the failure to compete against inferior teams when coming into to a very winnable series against them on a high note from the last series. It's fine to be positive, but there's nothing irrational about those complaints. They can't control that Sheets and Okha and Hardy have been out, but that doesn't excuse the performances of Davis and the pen this season.
  5. His last 6 starts have seen him give up 18 runs in 37 innings, with a 4.86 ERA, 29 K's and 15 BB's (he's 2nd in the NL in walks). If those are "very good" starts, our expectations of him sure have dropped dramatically. And our bullpen could miraculously start shutting down teams left and right. I could speculate all day, but all I can really go by is what we've seen so far. I won't deny that he was very solid in '04 and '05. However, Davis isn't getting any younger and the idea of throwing him a 4 or 5 year deal and expecting him to find those numbers that he put up in '04 and '05 over the next 4-5 years is unrealistic.
  6. And what part of Davis' 4.95 ERA and poor record and constant walks makes you think we should throw a lot of money his way to give him a contract extension?
  7. Not saying those are horrible numbers, but I'm willing to bet Bush's last 10 starts are better. Face it, Doug is no longer a solid #2 pitcher like he used to be. And it really isn't worth talking a long contract extension with him at this point, especially with the pitching talent we have coming up from the minors. Offer him arby next year, then let him walk. No extension.
  8. More of the same from Prince.
  9. Davis is complete garbage today.
  10. Is this guy really worth the $5 mil or so in arby money that is may cost next season? He's nothing even resembling a #2 pitcher right now. I'd rank him #4 in our rotation at the moment.
  11. Rusch is at 61 pitches. Great, Doug. Leadoff big shot, then walk Barrett on 4 pitches.
  12. C'mon, can't let Rusch off the hook here.
  13. Well, Doug has his first walk under his belt after the first AB, Pierre is about the worst guy in the majors to walk.
  14. Very disappointing series so far, especially coming off the sweep of the Reds. Better get the split.
  15. Well, I'd love to see a couple of runs this inning, but I'm not too hopeful the way we've looked tonight.
  16. Gross was definitely the better bet there. I don't know what Ned was thinking.
  17. Man, Prince and Billy are just KILLING us right now.
  18. Or..just...keep doing what you've been doing instead. Okay.
  19. C'mon Prince. You are so due.
  20. I have lost all faith in this garbage bullpen.
  21. On gamecast, sure looks like a lot of these pitches for Bush are right there, he's just not getting the calls.
  22. What I also don't get is why we suddenly started swinging constantly at the first pitch. Marmol was walking everything in sight early in the game.
  23. What baffles me most about this offense is the inconsistency. They might get completely shut down by Zambrano, or they might knock him around for 8 runs. They might get shut out by some unknown, or they might beat him up like an unknown pitcher. You just never know. The quality of pitching that we're facing doesn't seem to be any sort of a predictive factor as to what the offense is going to do in a particular evening.
  24. Well Marmol is gone, which is probably a good thing the way we hit him around. Time to knock around their bullpen.
