  1. If you don't have the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty then it's 4th and 2 at midfield instead of your own 33 and you're going for it instead of punting. Won't beat a team like this by beating yourself.
  2. Do we have any interest in retaining Thanasis for any other reason than "maintain morale of Giannis"?
  3. I realize this game is pretty much in hand, but punting on 4th and 3 from your opponent's 36 is such a lame move. Lol.
  4. Remember after Week 2 when the Saints were 2-0 with a +62 point differential and we were wondering who on their schedule could beat them? That seems like forever ago.
  5. I don't know who will remember this, but the Packers reached high for a kicker in 1997 to replace longtime kicker Chris Jacke. They went with Brett Conway who was a great college kicker from Penn State in the 3rd round. He was such a disaster in the preseason, he made Anders and Narveson look like Justin Tucker. They had no choice but to go with undrafted rookie Ryan Longwell instead and he in fact became their long-term kicker. Conway actually did go on to have somewhat of an NFL career, mostly with Washington but it was not particularly successful or particularly long for a kicker.
  6. I think you could make a fair case that Anders had done enough to deserve one more year. I am fine that they went the McManus route. I legitimately think that the job was his until the chip shot miss at the end of the preseason and that was just the last straw. I think if they knew they'd get an average NFL kicker if they reached for one in the 4th round, they'd do it. Kickers coming out of college are just so hard to evaluate for some reason. You'd think the best kickers in college would always be the best NFL kickers, but college FG percentages never seem to translate to the NFL. You sometimes have 2nd-4th round kickers that wash out of the league quickly and undrafted kickers that go on to be Pro Bowlers.
  7. Right....in the exact same way that Narveson was with the Titans before he was with the Packers. And if he was on track to go 38 for 42 like Butker did as a rookie and wasn't 12 for 17, he'd still be a Packer.
  8. Tucker, Butker, and Aubrey were all over 90% in their rookie seasons. I think you'll find that in fact, most kickers who hang around long-term in the NFL do in fact have some success as rookies, and the ones who are hovering around 70% (Roberto Aguayo, for example) very rarely even get the benefit of the doubt enough to get another chance.
  9. I get that with Narveson you were hoping to find the next Tucker, find the next Butker. Unfortunately usually you don't. McManus is an averagish "you know what you've got" kicker. And after the kicking debacles of the last year and a half I am fine with a guy like that rather than looking for the next great kicker. We don't need to have one of the best kickers in the NFL. We just need a kicker that you don't constantly worry is going to cost you a game.
  10. If our kicker can hit 86% of his FGs from 40-49 yards I will be absolutely happy with that.
  11. TJ Watt and Myles Garrett are 1st and 2nd on that list and they're still getting to the QB.
  12. What hurts us more than our kicker issues this year is our lack of pass rush. Rashan Gary has GOT to start showing up. Van Ness has also been a massive disappointment. It's clear that this team has tried to build a defense around pass rushers which is the right way to do it. But the guys they handpicked aren't getting the job done and it's the difference right now between the good defense that they are and the elite defense that they could be if the pass rush was where they expected it to be.
  13. Hilarious but true fact. The Packers all-time leader in FG percentage (with more than 1 attempt) is none other than...Anders Carlson.
  14. Kicker is not a "let's give him some time and see how he does position." As homer pointed out, it's a very short-term results oriented position. Many rookie kickers who miss 5 kicks by Week 6 wouldn't get enough patience from their organization to see Week 7. That's kind of a season long quota of misses. You need a track record of success to get a long leash at this position. My only hesitation is that this time of year, there's not necessarily superior options just sitting on their couch. It's a position you need to take care of in the offseason and if you get it wrong, it can be a problem all year.
  15. Alright, how about judging him by his league worst conversion %?
  16. Of all 4 North teams, I'd see them as least likely of the 4. But -- if everything fell into place for them -- defense being a top D all year, the offense continuing to develop and progress, given how relatively open the NFC is, yes, not impossible. It seems likely to me that the North sends 3 teams to the postseason, maybe even 4. At some point I do expect the Vikings to regress. Probably starting with Detroit next weekend.
  17. I think they're definitely a contender. Trouble is everyone else got better too. Right now you could legitimately claim that every NFC North team is a Super Bowl contender. Kind of crazy. Great for the division but not so great for each team in it. Not to make excuses for the two Packer losses, but the first one is hard to read into being opening day in Brazil, horrible surface, etc. Not really sure what happened in the Minnesota game. It was just one of those games where everything seemed to go wrong early and by the time things finally clicked the hole was too big to dig out of. I'd be willing to bet that the game is Minnesota is much different with possibly a different winner, but for sure they dominated us on that day.
  18. They're talking about Doubs just to clarify, not Narveson.
  19. If you can't use your kicker from 40+ he has no business being on your roster.
  20. All of this started with Jaire doing something dumb. Arizona had absolutely nothing going for them all game before that point.
  21. Be great for the invisible $107 million dollar man to show up one of these games.
  22. Yeah, nobody you can really blame it on. Still frustrating.
  23. 24-0 and we just can't help ourselves but to let Arizona back into it.
  24. Don't return a kickoff out of the endzone especially when your offense is playing as well as it is. Dumb.
  25. Or just let them right in with soft coverage. What a terrible drive by Jaire.
