  1. With regards to the NU situation, I think back to Penn State where I thought they would be performing at an 1-AA level for several years, only to rebound quickly.
  2. OUT: P Jason Alexander, outrighted. The roster is at 39, plus five on the 60-day IL.
  3. Is Sal Fasano the catcher J.J. Hardy slid into when he broke his ankle(?)
  4. OUT: OF Raimel Tapia, designated for assignment. IN: OF Sal Frelick, contract selected. The roster remains full at 40, plus five on the 60-day IL.

Man City began their season at Lambeau and finished it as champions of Europe.
  6. The tenth President, John Tyler, has a living grandson.
  7. Cultural insight: "Lost in the Pond" is a British ex-pat and recently naturalized American citizen. "Feli from Germany" is a German woman living in Cincinnati. "The Beesleys" explore British-American differences. Nerdy stuff: "Geography King" provides quirky geographical facts/oddities, state/city analysis and road trip highlights.
  8. I've been to Spring Training. The Arizona air is dry. Therefore, 60 degrees really feels like 50. I was wearing a windbreaker with the temps in the upper 70's.
  9. A follow up on my post from the 2020 thread: "I just discovered a part of the City of Milwaukee proper extends past 124th Street into Waukesha County. Less than one square mile and no one resides there. On edit: ditto for Washington County." with this: Why parts of city of Milwaukee are in Waukesha, Washington counties (jsonline.com)
  10. Last weekend I watched "A Man Called Otto". Is this going to be me in eleven years?
  11. I'm on a nine-month contract-to-hire. I have a pretty good feeling they will keep me on when the contract is up. However, this means no benefits (PTO, holiday pay, insurance, etc.). It's starting to become a bit frustrating when everyone else is hired directly and using their benefits. I am off all week, so that means my 6 January paycheck will be a fat $0.00. So my question is, if I file for UE, is it on the agency, would they pass it along, and would it tick off the company I am at? Or shall I suck it up and stay on everyone's good graces?

Any recs in the Eau Claire area? I'm too lazy to go through 18 pages of posts. A friend's daughter suggested Sammy's. Ditto on Classic Slice. Ate there this past Friday for the first time in 10+ years (after a brewerfan.net softball game) and better than remembered.

    If they avoid relegation.
  14. Well, I just finished my first week at my new place. Got it through the agency/recruiter that placed me last time. Nailed with one interview, a Teams meeting from my brother's apartment in JAX. It was nice to take a 13-day road trip, see my brother, attend a Brewers game in Tampa and have a job waiting for me when I came back.
  15. zurch - thank you for the advice. I can only read the second link. I'll have to wait until I'm done working this gig. to go out and make the rounds. The thing is, many places no longer have a receptionist. I'm not doing anything differently than in year's past, and I had always gotten a 75% success rate. I'm in a niche field and its always been hard to find people in my profession. My current place only interviewed two others beside myself and went with someone else.
  16. OK, so I need to pick some brains here. In the last 21 days I have applied to about 24 openings, all in my field, all within 40 minutes of home. The most I've seen at any time. I figured there would be a few, but not this many. So then why only four call backs? Only thing I can think of is people are taking advantage of the current situation to job hop and get a solid raise. Nowadays, it's the only way. How many of the same people am I competing against for these jobs?

Maybe they are professional, but not at the level the Rampage were.
  18. A Madison gig would require relocation. I'll keep you in mind, Thank you.

I find it perplexing that Milwaukee has gone almost twenty years now without a professional outdoor soccer team.
  20. My 30-year career has been quality engineering in the manufacturing sector, specifically in metal fabrication.
  21. And the answer is....#4! Informed yesterday of the decision. Interestingly, they're talking about keeping me on until the end of June. They would like me to train the next person. He did ask nicely. We'll see about that.
  22. 1. Could be corporate policy. 2. Could be a compliance issue. 3. With new management people in place, they want their own person? 4. Maybe they're just dancing with me until a prettier girl comes along. The backstory is I was pretty much hired on the spot after a twenty-minute phone interview. Sight unseen, no background check. The guy they had before walked off the job the second day and the guy I was replacing was retiring in three days. -- Carried over from the bugging you thread. Had my interview Wednesday. They were more transparent. They are looking to expand the role from an engineering one to more of I would say "quasi-managerial", so they're also looking outside the company. My skills experience for this specific role would likely not match someone they would find through a search. I questioned the timeline, The response was "as long as it takes to find the right person". So I see it as a sign of above #4. Indeed.com gets mentioned a lot here. Time to open an account!
  23. "Lou Grant" as well. I wished one of these oldie channels would show a few old episodes. They show all the other retro shows.
  24. Hockey is my brother's sport. A Habs fan in Jacksonville. On todays family Zoom call, he mentioned looking into flying into Montreal, but tickets are starting at USD 3,8000. I had to remind him the border is still sealed and if he even got in, would have to self-isolate for fourteen days. Explain that to his boss. Um, duh!
  25. After 15 months, finally landed something (albeit a temp to possible perm). Recruiter calls Wednesday...20 minute phone interview Friday...two hours later offer accepted. Plus, will pay better than any previous job. Only if job hunting was that easy. One Call, That's All.
