  1. Following. I'm looking into attending a game or two in DC the end of July. My last visit to DC was in '84 and the traffic was Chicago bad. Subways was the way to go.
  2. KROD has 437 career saves. I will gladly take KROD part 2, I will just choose not to watch the 9th inning very often since it is so terrifying. KROD part 2 has trade value come mid season though so I'm cool with it considering we got Feliz for nothing. Also, KROD became Manny Pina.
  3. I used to think it was unfair to certain contestants that some games are luckier than others. Then after attending a taping, one realizes everyone is there for fun and it's just entertainment.
  4. I was at the game with my dad, LGS. You'll have to take my word for it. Stiff breeze coming in from left, which Deer's dinger all the more unexpected. Molitor was on deck with Sveum at the plate. Just wanted Sveum to coax a walk to get Molitor up. I did keep score. If I can find it within the next week, I scan and upload.
  5. This past Saturday I bought out my wife's car whose lease was up. Financier: "I can offer extended warranty and yadda, yadda, yadda for three years. Here's the price." Jimbo : "Nope." Financier: "Here's the price spread over five years." Jimbo: "Nope. Please keep in mind I'm an engineer with a strong statistics background. I know how insurance works." Financier: "Oh." End of that part of the conversation.
  6. And the sideline reporter for today's Boston Marathon.....Trenni Kusnierek.
  7. When I attended the Orioles/BoSox game at Fenway two years ago I had my Brewers cap on to show my Milwaukee pride. Which leads to this, Monday is a special day in Boston, so it will be the one day per year I'll wear my retro Red Sox cap.
  8. UConn has their 111-game win streak snapped on a buzzer-beater. I just assumed they would steamroll their way to another national title.
  9. I'll wear another team's hat if I like that particular city/had a good experience with its people.
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/high-schools/2017/03/26/todd-frohwirth-made-name-himself-baseball-basketball/99672062/ Only found about it this evening. A Milwaukee guy who pitched nine seasons in MLB.
  11. OK, a little late to this conversation. Just had to say it has been 40 years since I've seen an underhand foul shot. Then I saw the name on the back of the jersey, which relates to 40 years ago.
  12. Shemera Williams put on quite a show for MAS. Four of her baskets were from NBA range. Interesting to see Loyal win a title (and quite the comeback). I worked near there for a couple of years. Not much in the area.
  13. I have been hearing "Social Security" will be gone all my life. That isn't going to happen. Look at the outrage whenever they even hint at changing anything. They can raise the age, they can tinker with means testing, but there will be SS. FVBrewerfan, Social Security will be here. It doesn't pay out very much on average now (a little over $1200/month on average), and it will only pay out less. Created in the 1930s, the Social Security Trust Fund ran a surplus until 2009. Beginning in 2010 (I believe in part due to the Obama temporary tax cut), the SSA began collecting less money annually than it was due to pay out. Therefore, the Trust Fund was tapped into. By 2033 the Trust Fund will be drained and tax collections will only cover 75% of expenditures. Therefore, massive changes will be needed, likely a combination of tax increases, benefit cuts, means testing, and increasing the eligibility age. Perhaps SSA will also stop some of it's long-term disability coverage. In 2033, the Social Security shortfall is projected at over $600B. Congress needs to do something about this. They should have done something about this years ago. That's why all people today need to be investing. I love asking my students if they could save $5 every pay period, and they all raise their hands. Then point out that at normal growth rates, $5/pay period would amass $40k+ of wealth by retirement age. We can all do a better job of this. SS will always be around as long as the public demands it and seniors vote in disproportionate numbers. A few years ago Paul Walker toured America sharing his economic ideas and his four point on SS is what DHonks mentioned.
  14. My dad was in the landlord business for thirty years until his stomach couldn't take it anymore. However, he is enjoying a comfortable retirement right now. His municipal bonds are spitting out semi-annual interest checks.
  15. So, what is the name of that jingle? It must be semi-well known. I've heard it other places.
  16. My thoughts on hockey in Milwaukee is this: 1) few Milwaukee area high schools have a team, compared to Madison's high schools and youth programs. People in Milwaukee don't grow up with it. 2) attending my first Admirals game after moving from Madison years ago, it seemed the Milw fans were more interested in the fights than the skill of the game.
  17. Yes, and Peralta is #3. Only three players remain from the 2013 Opening Day 40-man roster.
  18. IIRC, Detroit beat Green Bay in the regular season finale (the day after the Badgers won the Rose Bowl) to set up that playoff game. The two teams were locked in to play each other, the only question was the location and the finale was to determine the division winner and playoff host.
  19. IIRC, the Yanks would have played the AL East team with the second best overall record. (Same scenario with any of the other three divisions).
  20. Madisonians don't flaunt the speed limit the way Milwaukeeans do.
  21. I feel sorry for the people of Cleveland. Their team makes it to the WS and a disproportionate number of opposing fans are able to obtain tickets. I hope the Brewers never play the Cubs in the post-season. The crowd at MP would get ugly real quick causing me to avoid trying to even attend.
  22. Hmmm, only two umpires? Mike Hegan's dad catching?
  23. Hmmm, honeymooned in Toronto. The people of Boston were fantastic the two times I ran The Marathon. Ex-Brewers playing for the Rangers. I'll end up going for one of those three. Los Angeles is my favorite big city. For some reason, I just don't have the hate for the Cubs this season. Maybe because I haven't been to a Cubs game at MP recently? Their players come across as likeable?
  24. My brother is in Jacksonville. I visited him there for the first time four weeks ago for the Packer game. I rarely text him but did last night. He is seven miles inland, therefore outside the evacuation zone. His SO had to leave her house, so they're bunkered down together. BTW, visited Savannah and Tybee Island as well. Curious to kind of experience it would be for them to ride it out. Ironically, took a picture of the surge gage at Tybee Island.
