  1. Cal Eldred - overuse by Garner early in the career. Glenn Braggs - not sure the story with him, didn't seem like he reached his potential.
  2. What can you say, this game was a microcosm of the season. I attended nine games this year, losing three while leading/tied after seven. I was at the game in Washington where they allowed seven in the bottom of the 8th to lose and slip out of first for good. I would rather miss the WC spot by two games instead of just one. That way I won't be agonizing all winter what could have been. The real bummer for me about losing today was I was real curious how tonight and Sunday would have played out. We will never know for sure now that the issue has been settled.
  3. Actually had the opportunity to watch him wrestle once, at Edgewood H.S. in 1981.
  4. I ran it five years ago. The most noticeable thing of course the number of people who think they can show up at the last minute. The backup on I-94 eastbound rivaled any Brewer game. I came in on Bluemound and parked in the Molitor lot. The race itself was well run. Vision Race Management also puts on the Rock ' Sole and Madison Mini-Marathon races.
  5. Hmmm, doesn't seem one can get one personalized. I do think they look pretty neat.
  6. Anyone know if Wisconsin still has its NBC state tournament?
  7. On the plane back from Washington this morning I was seated next to a Nationals fan who was the game. He said the scoreboard during Perez's outing was like "xx mph CHANGE UP" on each pitch, even the fastest ones.
  8. After noticing more than a few people sporting red kits this morning, I had to ask. Turns out ManU is playing Barcelona tonight at RFK. [sarcasm]Almost makes this evening's ballgame irrelevant.[/sarcasm]
  9. Man, what a fun game to attend tonight. Tenth row behind the Brewers dugout. The Shaw bomb was foul by two seats. Thames was a moon shot and just missed another. Knew nothing of the trade. Adam Lind in LF was painful, the guy next to me said he mostly plays there. His numbers are up this year. The protective netting extends to the far end of the dugouts, which annoyed me. A player's walk-up music artist and title are listed in the corner of the video board. I was 20th in line at the concession stand - had my food and payment within six minutes. Chicken tenders don't come with ranch dressing.
  10. Was at Oriole Park tonight with one eye on the scoreboard. Thinking to myself yippie, up 8-1, the bullpen can't blow this. Not knowing what was going, but could guess when as it went 8-8. Good to see them pull it out. Was on pins and needles.
  11. Take your bike off the bandwagon too. Didn't the champion 2011 Cardinals have three 8 game losing streaks? Feel sad and mad, but really.... Hardly the bandwagon fan. Look for me behind the Brewers dugout in DC Tuesday night.
  12. Turned on the game in time to see Torres coming in down 2-1. Knew where this was going. Immediately switched to Tour de France...much more entertaining.
  13. Was at the game Saturday night, splurged to get nice seat behind the Phillies dugout. Three guys take their seats behind me. The guy in the middle was a knowledgeable fan, to his left a German attending his first game but was in observation mode, and to the right was a guy acting like he was in the RF bleachers, trying to make side wagers each PA, didn't know Stephen Vogt and proclaimed Def Leppard to be the "last great German rock band". As the game goes on, realize he's a Cub fan.
  14. IIRC, two grand slams in one inning against Boston. Ironically Harvey's Wallbangers, given the weekend.
  15. I was at the game and to see everyone's faces around me was priceless.
  16. Six innings, the home team didn't have to bat the ninth. Although, they only gave up the gift run and also produced an RBI.
  17. It's always been a bucket list thing for me do an eight-day, eight-city tour of the Pioneer League.
  18. J.J. Hardy out 4-6 weeks. He'll miss the series in Milwaukee. Was looking forward to seeing him again. Hopefully, he'll be back when I'm in Baltimore in four weeks. I missed him in Boston two years ago. https://www.camdenchat.com/2017/6/20/15835040/jj-hardy-orioles-injury-wrist-manny-machado-shortstop Edit: interesting note on Alcedes Escobar in the article.
  19. Tom Wilhelmsen?
  20. Not one but two local newscast showing the extended bullpen dance-off video as opposed to numerous other sports stories in the area that could have been covered.
  21. Yeah I had to listen to the Padres broadcast on Thursday and wasn't particularly impressed. Their color guys is especially annoying. Last week I was in Michigan for business so I had the Tigers broadcast on. With men on 1st and 3rd, the analysis was "..the guy needs to put the ball in play so the guy on first can run this way and the guy on third wants to run that way." Even used the teleprompter.
  22. I attend roughly eight games a year. Otherwise, I only watch on FSW (cable), I don't stream. Maybe a couple of weeknight games, maybe the first time through the order, or a few random innings. I start work at 6:30 am, so it's hit-or-miss if I can catch the endings. If the Olympics/T+F champs/Tour de France is in session, then baseball is pretty much zero.
  23. Playing in MLB's only six-team division for several years wrecked havoc on the inter-league schedule. Hopefully, future schedules will be more routine. I was also at that Saturday game.
