  1. You can't tailgate in a parking ramp.
  2. The state of MLB has resulted in me having little interest in baseball outside of the Brewers. If the Brewers should ever leave, I would maybe spend a weekend or two in Chicago each summer to catch some games just watch baseball and notable players. The only way I can see latching on to another team is if I had relocate for work.
  3. I'll chime in on this, since this is an issue that has gotten under my skin for many years now. People are making this a wussification of society, I prefer to think of it as installing a little discipline. Back in high school the hoops coach during a pep rally took the microphone and commented "if you feel the need to come to our games and do all your chants, then please stay away because you're an embarrassment to the team." And this guy was as conservative as they come. I used to enjoy going to games but now with the increasing uncivil behavior displayed at games I've lost my appetite.
  4. Off the top of my head, I believe the term is "risk aversion". One of the "Freakonomics" books elaborates on this subject and specifically calls out NFL coaches. Coaches are so afraid of arm-chair quarterbacks and being second-guessed, they take the safe option in a situation even if results in a lower expectation. I'll see if I can go back and find it.
  5. Those scatter plots look awfully random. I wonder what the R-squared value is. No mention in the article.
  6. That may have been the source of their hesitation to hire you to begin with. They uncertain of their future(?)
  7. Actually, that was the standard MO for years. Apprenticeships in the Major League bullpen were common. Additionally, relievers weren't normally "grown" in the minors. In the minors, pitchers were generally starters and didn't become relievers until they reached the majors. Chris Bosio comes to mind.
  8. When I visited Montreal last year, I found old Expos and Nordiques T-shirts for sale. Even a couple of people wearing Expos gear, and talked baseball with a couple of others. Plenty of baseball coverage in the morning paper. Still, couldn't get a finger on how much interest exists in the city.
  9. Did you look into the Washington U./Forest Park area? Not sure how pricey it would be.
  10. Bob Betts used to announce scoring decisions, but he's been gone 15 years now.
  11. I think you're both correct. I didn't watch Game 3, but didn't one of McGee's homers barely clear the fence?
  12. Andujar also stunk up the joint in Game 7 of the 1985 World Series. Manager Whitey Herzog had to apologize on national television.
  13. I saw him start a AAA game back in 1993. Back when I was young and single. Man, that was a long time ago.
  14. I don't see why not. My company has an I-PASS that all of us use when traveling through Illinois.
  15. Starting Pitching = 30% Relief Pitching = 15% Fielding = 5% Hitting = 49% Base Running = 1% Offense = 50% Defense = 50%
  16. Yes, quite an entertaining match to watch. In fact, my wife and I found the whole tournament entertaining. And yes, after watching the Australia match I never would have imagined the defense stepping up the way they did.
  17. I was only able to catch the final eight minutes of the other semi-final yesterday, but um...WOW.
  18. GER v FRA was an entertaining match yesterday. The French-Canadians in Montreal were quite festive in their support of France. Unlucky for France to lose, who outplayed the Germans.
  19. I used to be of the mindset that if you bet on yourself to win, I saw nothing wrong with it. My understanding is it is common in European soccer and no one blinks an eye. But recently I read "Larceny Games" and the thing the author points out is that an athlete gambling can be indebted to a bookie (or dealer) leading to a compromised situation.
  20. Only 20? Ha, got you beat! I had 23. It was the end of the day, so I just turned of my monitor and went home.
  21. I have always wanted one since the game in 2011 and cannot locate one. I go e-bay from time to time, no avail.
  22. I find netting distractive. When I sit in the Loge Infield, I choose to be behind the dugout. At hockey games, I avoid the ends.
  23. Watching the German women yesterday was quite entertaining. Reminded me a bit of the GER v BRA match last year - no marking.
  24. I was watching the Tour of California last week and the winner of the stage was from Team BMC Racing and after the race as the show is wrapping up, sure enough there's Eric Heiden. He got some serious face time and the commentators were fawning all over him, mentioning him being a former national cycling champion/almost finisher of the Tour de France on top of his speed skating accomplishments. He must be on the BMC staff.
