  1. The Cubs and Pirates played a tie game. The first tied game in MLB in eleven years.
  2. It's that awesome defense!
  3. Just to think, they drew a record 2.3 million in 1983 the year after the pennant when Wisconsin was bonkers over the Brewers.
  4. That is totally my take. The "club championships" for baseball, basketball, football, hockey are the pinnacle events for their sports. Golf and tennis each have four Grand Slam events. I don't see how the Olympics can be elevated over their events. For T&F, swimming and gymnastics, the Olympics are their ultimate event. These are the sports where the athletes train to be at their physical peak.
  5. I didn't see it at first, but my wife did. Had to drive back around and snap some pics.
  6. NBC bugs me, once again. They have a tendency to gush over two or three guys and ignore the rest of the field. Case in point the decathlon, would have been nice to give some kudos to Zak Ziemak. "Lucky Loser" is a new term for me. Women's water polo bronze medal match, HUN with a goal lead with time winding down and mismanage the clock on their final possession. RUS scores a buzzer beater to tie it and force a SO. RUS win s the SO. Sort of like a basketball game.
  7. Watching the World Championships last, Bolt looked susceptible. His 0.01 win over Gaitlin was considered by many as "Bolt didn't win, Gaitlin lost". But watching the semis, it was obvious Bolt was back. Watching all three Americans finish in the top ten in the women's marathon was cool.
  8. Many years ago rope climbing was an NCAA event.
  9. Jimbo to Rowdy Gaines: no need to yell into the microphone. Jimbo to Tom Hammond: there was more than one American in the 10K.
  10. omg, I completely thought these were jokes, or some nickname I didn't quite get. then I looked them up. lol. and Lafayette was actually his middle name, his first name was Delancey. wow. I remember watching Lafayette Currence pitch relief in a game I attended back in '75, so I was curious and looked him up. I see he played AA ball at Thetford Mines. I already know Jim Gantner played there because I've always been curious where this town was and all that. So I look at the roster and I see eleven guys from that team played in the majors, including Larry Yount.
  11. I would say 80% of this stuff is never on TV. Can't remember the last time white water kayaking was on ESPN...or Table Tennis. I could go on. I know I'm not in the majority, but I would watch more of this stuff on the off years if it were available. Alas, NBC discontinued Universal Sports network back in November.
  12. If the Dutchwoman doesn't crash, it's possible the American rides with her to the end earning gold and silver and the slipstream doesn't catch them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuQlpUgKXcA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm9tMlttAuc
  13. What a crazy finish to the men's cycling road race. The commentators predicted beforehand there would be crashes on the final descent and sure enough, two of the top three leaders wipe out. Then in the women's race, deja vu as the leader wipes out ten miles from the finish. Since I've started following the sport seven years ago, it has become one of my favorite to follow. Also due to the fact I took up triathlons four years ago.
  14. I partially share that sentiment. Maybe because NBC is well...NBC. Some key people I will follow are the recent Badgers in track and Gwen Jorgenson in triathlon. I caught most of the T&F OT as well as last year's World Championships, so I'm up to speed on most stroylines there. I want to follow swimming, but can never seem to follow which swimmers do what events. But as always, I will be glued to my TV as much as I can over the next 17 days. Pop and frozen pizza are all set for tonight for the Parade of Nations.
  15. It appears the comments section is now linked to facebook. I would prefer to post in anonymity. One thing I noticed if I click on the 3:00 tab, the site shuffles like turning the pages of a paper.
  16. When Treblehorn managed the Brewers, he did this once around 1988. Had Chuck Crim relieve against Toronto, play first for one better, then finished the game.
  17. Let me know what you're trying to query on. For instance, I just plugged in show me all "Claimed off Waivers" since June 25th, 2004, and it came up fine. I was trying to query "All" for a certain time frame, but I found a workaround. Thanks.
  18. Just curious, will the Transactions Page function again (errors out for a query prior to last Dec), or is that gone the way of the Power 50, et al? Thanks!
  19. I was also behind the third base dugout. His entourage numbered four. There were several Diamondback fans around me (much more than four), which surprised me. I overheard one guy quip "Cardinals start in 48 days", so I guess the followers of WI and AZ sports are on the same page.
  20. He had family at the game last night. Had a chance encounter with them after the game and they were obviously excited and seem like real nice people.
  21. KCI has an unique layout. Also, my first time flying Southwest. Was it just this flight or all the stewardess trained in stand-up comedy?
  22. A few years ago I was at game Bill Hall was in the box, took a pitch, went to the dugout, switched batters mid-PA.
  23. 3:10 Saturday starting times, it just blows up my whole day. People who return to their seats mid-AB. Three people a few rows in front of me returning to their seats obstructing my view, then a scorching liner is fouled straight back one section over.
  24. I'm in Kansas City on a business trip and eating BBQ ribs while watching the Royals on TV smacking around Wainwright.
