1. The "Scout" on MLB Gameday provided this little bit of info: That was pitch number 45 for Yovani Gallardo; his effectiveness may start slipping, as he holds opposing hitters to a .355 average in the first 45 pitches but they hit .500 off him after that.
2. The 6,7,8,and 9 hitters have all of the Brewers' hits tonight so far.
3. Looks like the player trying to buy the documents was A-Rod. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/12/report-a-rod-tried-to-purchase-the-biogenesis-documents/
4. Zack might have broken his collarbone, but he definately got a low blow in Edit: Sorry don't know how to post a picture besides an attachment. Edit 2: WOW just found this picture. http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2013/04/12/041113-Low-Blow-SW-PI_20130412020948303_660_320.JPG
5. Looks like Axford wants to make this a close race.
6. Cano just dropped Boras for Jay-Z. Well Jay-Z's new collaboration with CAA. I wonder if this change was fallout from this off-season.
7. This pretty much sums up how I feel about Doug Melvin right now: Can someone please post the clip of Yuni softly jogging at a ball hit up the middle from the NLCS.
8. For some reason I feel like this signing had more to do with MA than with Doug. I read something a while back that Boras was calling MA directly and giving him his Lohse pitch, but I could be wrong. Sometimes I wish the Brewers were more like the Packers in free agency.
9. No, but I did see Teddy Higuera pulling people out of the pile.
10. That article also contained an interesting comment from Braun's attorney: Martin Singer, a well-known Los Angeles attorney for celebrities, responded to questions posed to Braun's publicist by saying, "My client confirmed last week that there was an alleged claim for money owed to Mr. Bosch because he had been used as a consultant by my client's attorneys in his successful appeal with MLB last year. Several witnesses can corroborate how Mr. Bosch requested over thousands of dollars for his consulting with my client's attorneys last year. My client has no relationship with Tony Bosch, and the only relationship Mr. Bosch had was with my client's attorneys as a consultant." Singer said that if Braun's name appears in the documents, it is only because Bosch was trying to get whatever money he could from Braun from the consulting arrangement. "It is clear that this is all false," Singer said. He threatened legal action against ESPN if it aired or published this report. The two attorneys who represented Braun's appeal last year, David Cornwell and Chris Lyons, declined comment.
11. Glad to see him stay with Seattle. Is now the highest paid pitcher ever. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/07/felix-hernandez-mariners-on-verge-of-a-175-million-contract-extension/
12. Great point. If this bill was in fact for PED's it would make no sense to include a range of payment due which had a $10k difference between the high and low number.
13. Braun: "During the course of preparing for my successful appeal last year, my attorneys, who were previously familiar with Tony Bosch, used him as a consultant." Cornwall (Braun's lead attorney): "I was not familiar with Tony Bosch prior to Ryan Braun's case. Bosch was introduced to me at the earliest stage of Ryan's case." Braun hired attorneys, not just Cornwall. Just because one attorney didn't know of Bosch doesn't make Braun's statement false. The other 2+ attorneys he hired knew of him because they were the ones to actually introduce Bosch to Cornwall.
14. First, we have no clue how much Braun http://actuallypaid this guy. All people have to go from is that the guy wrote on a piece of paper $20-30K. Not exactly hard evidence. If all it takes in court to collect payments is me writing something on a piece of paper paper then Bill Gates will soon be owing me alot of money. Braun and his lawyers make it seem like Bosch's contribution was negligible, so Braun's statement that there was a dispute as per money owed sounds plausible. Second, you keep saying there is no reason for Braun's attorneys to spend any time or money consulting with a shady character, are you an attorney? Are you familiar with what is or is not standard practice for a defense case of this kind? Wendy Thurm, who was an attorney for 20 years and is now a baseball writer weighed in on this exact issue. She tweeted: "Why would Braun use Bosch? To assist with defense behind scenes & perform tasks the testifying experts can't do. Standard lawyer practice." Additionally she said, "How many PED "experts" were willing to help Braun in case against MLB? No one connected to official testing orgs would go near Braun's case." So yes, there is in fact a plausible explanation for Braun using a dirtbag as a consultant for his defense. Once again, it is literally amazing how quick people are to jump to a verdict with the only evidence being three pieces of handwritten paper which contain vague references to Braun. While it is unsettling to know that a PED dealer even mentions Braun's name, it would be nice to actually wait for some context before deciding who is or is not guilty. We would expect nothing less for ourselves.
15. Well as long as the new times said it then it probably is fact then. Believe it or not, criminals, dirt-bags and other generally shady people are used as consultants, witnesses and experts all the time in a variety of circumstances. If you were fighting a PED use related suspension, wouldn't it make some sense to talk to someone who is familiar with the use of PED's? Regardless, this can all be easily backed up by Braun with client engagement letters, memos, receipts, etc. If all Braun offers is this statement and nothing else then there might be something to this. If this really was about PED use, then there is no reason for his attorney to be anywhere near this transaction unless his attorney is completely clueless.
16. Just speculating but didn't Milky attack his PED result by using the same defense Braun did? Could "Braun advantage" be an industry term that refers to attacking the handling of the sample. If the Braun advantage is simply about PED's then why would they name it after Braun? There has been more popular and better baseball players than Braun to have used PED's, I don't understand why only his name would be used in that context.
17. Pretty rational explanation, especially considering there was no PED next to his name.
18. Unless more evidence comes out, consider me unimpressed by what evidence they have that is linked to some of these players. I have a hard time believing that any company would keep track of what people owe them by a handwritten note, particularly when that person owed them $20-30K. If all it takes to convict a player is their name written down on a sheet of paper with no other evidence then fans are entering into a new low of finding players guilty before proven innocent.
19. Costas did a great job. Loved the stories about Aaron and Mays at the All-Star game and the Joe Black story.
20. Adam I am somewhat shocked that the funeral director is demanding his money right away given the situation. With my Dad's unexpected death 2 1/2 years ago the funeral director was very understanding given the circumstances and offered to come up with some sort of payment plan for my sister and I with a funeral bill that ran around $8,000. I don't know the funeral business all that well so maybe I am being naive, but this surely adds a ton of stress to an already stressful situation. Have you had any luck finding any hint of a will?
21. Did your father have an attorney that he frequently used? Often if there is a will they will keep a copy at their office.
22. So sorry to hear that Adam. I lost both my parents by the time I was 26. As far as coping, I looked to the example that my father showed me when we first lost my Mom. Basically I kept very active, clung to my faith and the remainder of my extended family, which is very close, and just pushed forward. Everyone mourns differently and don't be afraid to talk to someone about it if you are having problems. Feel free to PM me if you need to talk further about it.
23. Apparently there is mutual interest between UW and Petersen.
24. I think the success or lack thereof for smaller market teams has more to do with the inequality of revenues from TV contracts and not from the concept of free agency itself.
