  1. The rule is not to score at all if Sheets pitches, and withold the run support when Double D is pitching but unleash the bats once he left the game.
  2. bases loaded and no outs and Sheets pitching, as long as the first out isn't at home I'd take a dp to score a run.
  3. Brewers have bases loaded and K twice. No runs scored. Mets have one runner on second and make two outs, but score a run. Yet some people still try to say striking out is making an out like anything else and having too many K's isn't that bad.
  4. Whew, I can take off he rope from around my neck. Too bad JJ didn't get a hit there. The Jenks double would have tied the game.
  5. Note to the Brewers: you should not swing at fastballs at neck height. I'm going to be sick now.
  6. I wish Benny did ground into a 6-4-3 dp. The good news is that Bannister has pitched 52 pitches in 2 innings. How can we not score during that time?
  7. Everyone says the first pitch is important, but I heard somewhere else that the most important pitch is the third pitch after you get to 1-1. Look at the differnce between 1-2 and 2-1.
  8. His curve is looking awesome. Like Darron said, already an A+ pitch.
  9. Well I'm stuggling hard in my fantasy league. How about a perfect game from Sheets to help my team? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  10. Jamie, you should check out the rules on metal spikes. The fall league does not allow metal spikes on that field. Also be aware that all rings, necklaces, earrings, wristwatches, and other jewelry are usually banned also. (even stud earrings, some umps just won't let you play with those.) Wish I could have made practice. It looked beautiful outside. Work sucks.
  11. Because this was the first time I was at home during a game. I was looking forward to my first TV game this year. Grrr. I'm hoping we get some hits early and often.
  12. Since I'm a Cowboy fan...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. I agree Brian. Another reason Bf.net is awesome is because half the page isn't devoted to ads like a lot of other sports sites. I leave for vacation out of the country on Wednesday. I come back early Sunday morning to find the Brewers are 5-0, the Badgers won the Frozen Four, and Bf.net is mentioned on ESPN news. Am I still in PVR, Mexico dreaming? Oh, and as a side note, my girlfriend said yes and is now a fiance. What a week.
  14. I know he plays deep, but can you find out how he was ranked before he injured himself? He couldn't run at the end of the year, and this probably padded the amount of singles given up. It might have just made him bad to worse, but it also might have made him average to bad.
  15. I use firefox. Spyware isn't a problem for firefox, the software never reaches my computer. Also, most viruses target IE programing to get themselves into your computer, so firefox is safer in that reguard. There are some viruses targeted at firefox, and it is possible to get them otherways. Firefox isn't virus proof, but it's safer than IE. IE also tends to crash sometimes for no apparent reason. Firefox has rarely crashed on me. Switching is pretty easy. Just download from their website, and run the download. When it first starts up it will even ask if you want to transfer all of your bookmarks. It will take a little time to get used to the new browser, but it's like driving a new car. All the buttons are in the same area, you just have to get yourself used to the exact locations.
  16. I would suggest cleats. The fields are not that good, and the cleats will help your grip. It's not manditory, but I would suggest it. I don't know if metal cleats are allowed. I suggest plastic cleats, since I know that's legal. I will have baseball pants, but this is entirely optional. Some teams have full uniforms, some only have team T-Shirts. Wear whatever you don't mind getting dirty. Besides your bf.net shirt of course.
  17. About HBP leading to slightly more runs. Not only is the pitcher wild, but now he's pressing even more. I know this has no meaning in this subforum, but a pitcher will act a little differently if he nibbles and misses four times than missing big with one pitch. Ok, time to get out of here before I'm lynched.

  19. By this same reasoning, a pitcher who used a spitball to gain an unfair artificial advantage should not be in the HoF. I don't remember off the top of my head who, but I know pitchers who used spitballs have gotten in. What about people who were caught using corked bats? Does that automatically ban you from the HoF? Even if he came to my house and showed me the needles he used to inject himself (if he ever did steroids), I would still feel obligated to vote for him.
  20. I think Lee's average will go up next year, but his power numbers will drop a little. A lot of people in this post believe his production will go down. I believe it will, but only slightly in the power numbers. I think HR and Slg will take a small drop next year (RBI will simply be a function of how the people hitting in front of him do). However, I believe that since this was his first time in the NL (new stadiums and pitchers), he will do better in his second year in pure number of hits. He also publicly said that participating in the HR contest at the break messed up his swing. If he keeps his swing going all year in his second time around the league, I can't see how his Avg doesn't go up to .290 again. I think he'll get the same treatment as most of our players: plan on keeping them for 1-3 years, but willing to trade for a good offer. The only untouchables should be Sheets, Cap, DD, Bow, Hardy, Weeks, and Fielder.
  21. That's why some of us won't be upset if/when they are dealt for better players. They are average. Considering the past 13 years, average was great for us. Now lets get above average players, especially at 1B and LF where your power mashers are supposed to be.
  22. Ok, I'm glad we're basically in agreement RLuz. Average hitter and average pitcher, don't bunt unless it's the end of the game. Situational bunting is ok. Most Brewer pitchers, or someone like Moeller when you know you're going to pitch hitting behind him are ok to call for the bunt. I just thought that you didn't want us to ever bunt. Glad I was reading you wrong. And at no time should we bunt in the first inning. If your pitcher is at the plate in the first inning, the other pitcher is obviously not doing so well. Swing away. The problem with teaching them drag bunting: if they can't get down a basic sac bunt, how are they going to fare trying to drag bunt?
  23. Since this is such a hot topic in the coach release thread, I decided to start a new one. I agree with the numbers that the chances of scoring with a runner on first with no out is greater than a runner on second with one out, but I believe this is the wrong comparison. You start with the first situation, the second situation is just one possible outcome. Some of the possible outcomes of runner on first, no out (bunt and no bunt) are: 1. Strike/pop/fly out, runner on first one out 2. Throw runner out at second, runner on first one out 3. Double play 4. Runner on second, one out 5. Error or hit, everyone safe. Now, eveyone would rather have #5 happen, but we all know that it's not always going to happen. I believe it is acceptable to bunt if, as a manager, you are willing to give up the chance of having #5 happen to avoid having #3 happen. This can be employed whenever you feel the batter has a good chance of grounding out, including pitchers or slow hitters that tend to hit a lot of ground balls. I know outs are the most precious thing in baseball, and you shouldn't just go throw them away willy nilly. However, if used occasionally, I think the bunt can be a useful offensive weapon. I'm sure if you ran just the pure numbers, you would find the optimal place to put your fielders are the "normal" positions we are all used to, but you could see the Brewers were able to put their fielders in different positions to great extent in certain situations. I think if you study the exact situation and not just general situations throughout history, you can find times to do different things (like play with a shift or bunt a runner over).
  24. I don't want to go to the chatroom becuase I have to suffer following GameDay online at work, not watching it at home. Therefore, everyone is a batter ahead of me.
