  1. That's part of the appeal of baseball for me. The superstitions like not talking about "that", don't step on the lines, routines on the mound or in the box. He could have fun talking around it without having to say it.
  2. Anybody else upset Prince didn't turn the tables and draw a bases loaded walk?
  3. Macha was also hedging his bets so that Hall was due up if the Phils scored 3. Though, if the Phils scored 3, do we want to keep Coffey out there?
  4. This is my favorite quote. If Yost was still around you would have heard the "it's early, no reason to panic".
  5. No, it's only four. They just find a local polock every day to pretend to be a sausage.
  6. Boo. I was happy to hear that we would be missing Moyer.
  7. They've also played the Nats 6 times already. That might account for the 5 games over projections.
  8. ...one sausage getting wacked in the back of the head by a backup infielder... Easter's race was one of the best I've seen. There was an obvoius slower mini-sausage that got tagged first so she could have a good sized lead. Mini-Hotdog got the tag and took off like a cheatah, passing the other sausage right before the end. It was like watching the old scoreboard race, but it felt better knowing that it happened because one suasage busted tail. They should mix it up a bit. Some days have a sprint, some days have a leisurly stroll, and some days just goof off down the line.
  9. The most HRs ever in an opening series, bt how many other opening series were four games? And how many other opening series featured such a bad pitching staff against a pretty good hitting team? What happens if the wind is from the other direction? Wrigley acts as a bandbox some days, but acts as death valley on others.
  10. I forgot about "Super Brewer". (my name for him) He comes dressed like a superhero in Brewer colors. I see him in the SRO area by the RF pole. I second him.
  11. Yes, the trumpet guy is the band directory from Waukesha North. At one of the buckethead games he did the Star Spangled Banner, so his name and job was on the board. I believe the Maniac has multiple 20 game packs. I "only" had a 20 game pack in 2001, and the Maniac sat one row in front of me several seats down. He was right above the visitor's bullpen on the field level. When I went to full season, I noticed he was only there about 1/4 of the time. My theory is that he buys 4 20-game packs and sits in different sections of the ballpark. I still see hiim there on occasions, but I don't look for him anymore.
  12. They may be able to create a black hole. A black hole "sucks" everything that is inside it's event horizon. They would be creating a black hole whose event horizon around the size of an atom, and it would last miliseconds before becoming ... ?undense? ... enough to no longer be a black hole. There was also fear when we first tested the atomic bomb that it would vaporize the atmosphere of the entire planet and kill all life.
  13. My unprofessional advice: Pay cash for the house if you can. Put asside money each month as if it were a mortgage into an investment of your choice. (Money market, CD, etc) Garaunteed investments from the bank are going to pay out less than the percentage of the mortgage. Mortgages are where the banks make the money to give back to investors. I think the old advice was based on the assumption that mutual funds "always" return 10% over a long period of time. That's obviously not garaunteed. Mathematically, the advice to invest and take a mortgage is sound. However, math does not take into account emotion or life changes. If something ever happens and you don't/can't make the "mortgage" payment to yourself, you are not in major trouble. All of this advice is dependant on other factors in your life, so don't follow any of our advice. Talk with someone that can see your whole situation. If you do take a mortgage, there is a trick I heard about. Take out a 30 year instead of a 15 year mortgage, but pay every month the same you would have if it were a 30 year mortgage. I don't know the validity of the trick, but it seems sound. The entire extra you pay each month goes towards the principle instead of some of it goinig towards interest if you had a 15 year loan. If you do see a professional, follow Ewizabeff's advice and see a fee only advisor. You pay them a fee for their advice instead of paying commission. The only way for the advisor to make more money is for you to come back for advice or to recomend them to others. This is a great incentive for them to give you honest advice that is in your best interest.
  14. Let me try. Everyone knew the Brewers weakness was RP getting to the closer. Melvin went out and got one of the better set up men. Linebrink just picked a really bad time to loose it. Melvin has always said you have to overpay to get P in July. A risky move, but one that was needed to attempt to make the playoffs that year. This deal is not over yet. We will get two draft picks in June. Maybe we use these draft picks to get the pitching you say we should be stocking? And where was LaPorta going to play? We could trade Prince now (because he's so overpriced) for pitching. But what would happen if LaPorta follows Weeks in not putting up mega numbers for years, while we watch Prince come close to, or win, an MVP award? Lee was walking at the end of the year. So we traded Cruz for one year of Cordero, and came within $1M of getting him for another 4. Like someone said, Cordero was a key part in an almost playoff run. Cruz would be a backup OF with us. I have to believe he would be behind Hart and Braun. So Cruz would have taken Brad Nelson's place on the bench, adding another R to our team. I consider it a win for both sides. Both just needed a change of scenery. I agree that this was a bad trade. In hindsight. I was excited to get a catcher. Carne Estrada exploded on us. But this deal did not cripple a franchise. I'm pretty sure DM got an extention to 2012 before he went out to get a manager.
  15. Or what will happen is that they start busting him up and in, getting him out and lowering his walk rate. I expect his walk rate to drop starting mid to late May as teams realize he's looking to lay off low and away. (re: Hardy's sudden lack of fastballs on the inside half after the first two months of 2007)
  16. But they still dock his pay on a per game basis. So it doesn't hurt the team as bad, but it hurts the player's pocket.
  17. There are 81 games in Milwaukee, which means he only needs to be here for a maximum of 100 out of the year. The other 100 days he's on the road with the team, plus the time spent in ST. Let alone he can't really "enjoy" the big city playing 2/3 of the game at night. I don't know how much of a factor that is.
  18. I've had two grills stolen from me. It really sucks because they were charcoal grills that cost less than $25 brand new. It also sucks when you look around and see a lot nicer grills sitting out that weren't stolen.
  19. If the time period isn't over, but you have 20% down, you can refinance the loan. Then you aren't paying PMI. You have to be careful that you don't throw away money paying refinance fees that are more than the PMI.
  20. I think it's great to overpay your mortgage. Just as long as everything else is paid off. If you have any auto loans, student loans, credit card balances, etc, make sure those are totally paid off before putting extra money into the mortgage. Also, have an emergency fund in a safe place (MM, CDs, regular bank account). If you were fired tomorrow your should be able to survive 6 months without income. Also plan on paying an insurance deductable during that period. For example, my deductable is $1000, so i should have enough money set aside to pay off bills for 6 months plus an extra grand. This is just non-professional advice that Robin19 heard from the radio.
  21. I think the answer is obvious. Revisit the "Can Bill Hall pitch?" thread. With Hall struggling at the plate, switch them. Yo becomes our new 3B and Hall becomes the stud pitcher we need.
  22. I see them turn people away all the time. No parking ticket means no free soda. They make no exceptions to keep people from cheating the system.
  23. Yes, I noticed. So did the SO. The woman in the video with me is the one I was with before the SO, so she's not happy to see it resurface. I knew about O Fortuna last year. That's why I'm pretty sure it's not Orff.
