  1. "The problem with this is that numbers for all players jump around. Corey Hart's numbers will show an even wider discrepency between hitting in front of Hardy and not hitting 1st." So I guess I'm not the only one too lazy to run the numbers.
  2. "Maybe Fielder is helping Hardy and Bruan but we shouldn't just assume that he is. The effect just isn't pronounced enough." Is that true? I'm too lazy to crunch the numbers, and I'll admit that maybe this is selective memory talking, but it seems to me that if you look at Hardy's numbers this year with and without Prince batting behind him, there would be a wide gulf. Obviously with Braun, it's impossible to know. I'm not stating that if there is a big discrepancy in Hardy's numbers that it conclusively proves anything, just that I think there IS a big discrepancy there, contrary to what Russ is saying. Either way, the guy who suggested we hit Counsell third is thinking a little too far outside the box. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. My point, FV, is that while I agree it's a no-brainer that Sheets gets an invite if he wins 11, I'm not sure he should have to. To take the Wolf example, he's currently 8-6 with a 4.32 ERA. Compare that to Sheets: 9-3 with a 3.09 ERA, pitching for the NL's best team to boot. To me, the guy who's got yeoman's work to do here is Wolf, not Sheets. Just curious as to whether somebody can defend this writer's choice.
  4. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/allstar/projections CBS Sportsline projects the rosters, as of 6/27, and names Randy Wolf and Matt Morris to the team ahead of Sheets. Since neither of those guys would be his team's lone representative, and neither can match Sheets' numbers, there's got to be something I'm not understanding here. Morris would get the nod, all else being equal, because the game is in his park. But I think Sheets has substantially better credentials; home town stuff only goes so far. Wolf I don't get at all.
  5. Sorry, this should probably be in the previous All Star thread. I'll repost there and you guys can lock this one.

  7. "Someone is going to plunk him up high to send a message at some point." When pitchers throw at hitters, they don't throw at their heads. Someone may bury a fastball in Billy's ribs one day, sure. If that were the biggest potential problem with Hall's 'stand and watch it fly' tendency, I don't think many people on this site would be concerned about this behavior.
  8. "Easier said than done, though. You really only have a split-second to decide the trot v. sprint issue as you're coming out of the box. One would hope that sprint would be the automatic default option, but . . ." I didn't see this particular instance, but if it's anything like what I'm used to, this wasn't Bill Hall trotting when he should have been sprinting. It was Hall swinging the bat, then standing motionless and admiring his handiwork. I think breaking into an immediate home run trot would actually be an acceptable compromise. Hit it, start your trot, loft the bat lazily towards the first base dugout with one hand, admire your handiwork - voila, you're 4-5 steps closer to first base by the time you realize you actually have to leg it out, and you're already in motion. Come on Billy, we love ya, work with us here.
  9. Russ, I completely empathize with what he said. I think I was clear about that. I'm just pointing out how funny it is that we'd both be pleased to avoid a sweep. Relax, this isn't a quarrel. As to the Cubs being defined as a good team - last I checked, good teams don't spend much time looking up at .500 by the time late June rolls around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. Best record in the National League - check Team playing great baseball right now - check Favorable pitching matchups this weekend - check Playing a team with a sub .500 record - check "I'll be happy if we don't get swept in Chicago and ecstatic if they win more than one" You, sir, are a long-suffering Brewers fan - new to this whole "winning" thing. I know this because I feel pretty much the same way, despite the points above.
  11. As an aside, how much fun does it look like Jenkins is having now that he's finally on a decent team? Seems like every shot of him in the dugout, he's busting a gut laughing, or clowning around. Gotta feel good for the guy, after being a part of so many bad Brewer teams.
  12. Even with Miller in there, that's an awfully nice lineup.
  13. First of four straight day games. Let's win them all, and make this divisional race a laugher.
  14. "Heck who wouldn't prefer a Coshun/Nelson booth to an Anderson/Schroeder one?" That, my friends, would be the last time I listened to a Brewer TV broadcast. Just thinking about it makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.
  15. "If it's simply one start, it's insignificant." On this point, we're agreed. As to whether this portends something more far-reaching - we'll know soon enough, but I appreciate the speculation. Got to get through the 21 non-game hours every day somehow...
  16. "I think (hope) he was kidding." It was tongue in cheek, but to be honest, I'm only half kidding. I like Bush as much as the next guy, but he's a bottom of the rotation guy. It's not like Yost is skipping Sheets - that would be newsworthy. The notion that not pitching Dave Bush against the Cubs is going to spell doom is kind of laughable, at least to me. If this offends anyone, sorry, not my intent.
  17. I don't have a problem with it. Bush has made two very good back to back starts. Bush has proven that he is incapable of three very good back to back starts. We need to beat the Cubs this weekend. Do the math.
  18. Nothing against Counsell, who has performed admirably, but tonight we should see the Fielder/Weeks/Hardy/Braun infield - looks awfully good on the lineup card. Hopefully Prince's bomb last night is a sign that he's back on the good foot after a mini-slump. Would be nice to score a boatload of runs for Vargas. Even though he's been scarily effective all season long, CV isn't the kind of pitcher you feel can control a game, like Sheets or Capuano when they're in a groove.
  19. "If Sheets doesn't go at least 6, I think they'll be in a little trouble." I'd say that's true, regardless of how fresh the bullpen is.
  20. Didn't the Brewer announcers say early in yesterday's broadcast that the 'Stros had to catch a late flight last night and wouldn't get into Milwaukee until like 3 AM this morning? And of course, their game w/ the Rangers went extras, so that wouldn't help. I'm sure they sent Jennings ahead early, but the bats could be a little fatigued tonight - not what you want when you're facing Sheets. Here's to Ben being a bully and kicking sand in the face of the Houston hitters, and to the bats shaking off a woeful performance on Sunday.
  21. Well, not the lineup I'd hoped for, but Prince could use a day off, I guess. Hopefully the JV team rises to the occasion today.
  22. I don't think Hardy's available. I agree that Weeks and Estrada will sit. Would like the lineup to look like this: Hart Graffanino Braun Fielder Hall Mench Miller Counsell Gallardo We'll see.
  23. Second night in a row I've TIVOd the game and watched the next morning. Man, how enjoyable have the first two games of this Royals series been? Everything is going the Crew's way again. Agree with pebadger about the call after the slo-mo replay of the deflected pitch that Estrada took square in the jewels. Great deadpan by Schroeder. By the way, as great as it is to be a Brewer fan right now, pretty pathetic that this thread turned into a debate about Tony freaking Gwynn. I'm embarrassed on behalf of those who perpetuated it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  24. No Hardy again, as expected. This is actually a nice looking lineup vs. a righty; I'd be surprised if Counsell didn't reach a few times tonight.
  25. Coming into this series, I figured Milwaukee to take two of three. And today's game is the one I had earmarked as the probable loss. Prove me wrong, Dave Bush. Prove me wrong.
