  1. They gotta spend that Gil Meche money somehow.
  2. Ellis took 28 shots and had TWO freethrow attempts. He could get to the rim ANYTIME he wanted last night. He decided to jack up 20 footers. He was 8 for 9 in the paint. He was 4 for 19 (hmm, worse than Jennings) everywhere else on the court. Also, down 2, full timeout, 19 seconds left, they don't manage to get a shot off until 5 seconds left on the clock?
  3. Keep in mind the main reason Dickey is so effective is due to his velocity. He doesn't throw a standard knuckle ball. His knuckleball sits around 77 mph, and is his ko pitch. If that velocity, which was the highest of his career, dips he could be in trouble. Especially in a hitters park like Miller Park. Not saying he can't keep throwing it long term, but he isn't the typical rubber arm knuckleballer. Much like a good changeup artist, his success is the speed difference. He throws 2 different knucklers, one 84ish, and one 70ish.
  4. Both can actually make a huge difference to hitters (and pitchers) if they do their job well. Seeing minor mechanical adjustments and being able to both explain them and get the players to make them can make a big difference. Where the problems arise, is when a coach can't coach individuals and expects everyone to adopt his philosophy (see Peterson, Rick)
  5. MONTA HAD 31! HE HAD 31! HE HAD 31!!!!!! That's great! Nope. Not on 28 shots. Not with 5 assists to 6 turnovers. My god. Why do people think he is GOOD?
  6. But the arbitrariness of formula stats like WAR or FLIPPY-DIPPY or BOOB-LOOB or whatever else someone makes up doesn't seem to bother you. Yes. "Flippy Dippy" and "Boob Loob" are totally comparable to WAR or wOBA, which are an actual, reasonably accurate way to measure a player's contributions, and aren't actually arbitrary. The best way to argue the validity of something isn't to question the accuracy of the statistic or try to understand how someone came to the numbers, it's to ridicule it in such an inane fashion as to render your point completely moot. IT'S FLAT I TELL YOU! THE WORLD IS FLAT!
  7. Maas, I just want to say thanks. You give me entertainment at work. I hope to contribute to this thread at some point..... but who knows when. I'm waiting for the Nyjer Morgan podcast to start.
  8. I always thought Peterson would've been better served teaching proper body mechanics to younger guys, as a minor league roving guru of sorts.
  9. Go read the linked article.
  10. I just wanted to comment on this, as I've heard this said many times before. But the combined OPS+ of Yo (55), Grinke (8), Marcum (24) and Wolf (5) was no where even close. To put that in perspective, None of them hit better than Cesar Izturis this season (who had a 55 OPS+). Let alone the AL DH line which was somewhere around 115 OPS+.
  11. RBI: Headly: 115, Ramirez: 105 HR: Headly 31, Ramirez: 27. That's how.
  12. Watching Ben Sheets hit was one of the most painful things about being a Brewers fan in 2003-2008. I'm definitely for it, although the idiocy of having the two leagues with different rules should disappear.
  13. There's no tailgating at Bucks games. That's about 90% of it. Also, you clearly don't frequent the bleachers and/or the area around Friday's during Brewers games. Plenty of absolutely wasted people are there. They just rarely seem to end up in their seats.
  14. No, it's the coaching staff's fault he was used to consistently face LHB's, instead of being put in a place where he was more likely to succeed. Last two years: 329 RHB's faced, 250 LHB's faced. That's only 57% RHBs. Considering less than 30 percent of MLB hits left handed... our manager didn't do his job.
  15. The only guys who seemed to label Nyjer a cancer were blowhard self righteous Cardinals or blowhard self righteous baseball writers. I never once heard of a teammate saying a bad word about him, even when he got shipped out of town.
  16. They barely beat a team that will be lucky to win 35 games at home. Boston couldn't hit a shot on their 2nd game of a back-to-back. I'm extremely cautiously optimistic.
  17. Move over, Mr Funke. I have a new favorite Tobias.
  18. I see a Roy Oswalt or Dice-K signing for 1 year. I'm not sure why I see it... but I do. I might be in slight favor of Oswalt, but want no part of 5.5 hour game Dice-K
  19. I won't ever forget.... Thank you, Nyjer. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_10_07_arimlb_milmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=mil#gid=2011_10_07_arimlb_milmlb_1&mode=video Also: Ed Sedar's reaction is about the same as mine.
  20. Considering how rare it is for 8 or so CF's to not be the 8 best defensive OF's in the league... It's no shocker Jenkins never won. Especially if you add in that Andruw Jones won 10, Edmonds won 6, 4 for Larry walker and 3 for Finley and Beltran. Those 5 guys make up 26 of the 33 gold gloves over Jenkins' career.
  21. No, he absolutely did not follow a similar formula. The formula for the original trilogy was Hero vs Bad Guys. Where every conflict had a clearly defined reason and thought process behind it. For Ep 1-3, it was "LETS MAKE STUFF LOOK COOL ZAP ZAP PEW PEW LAZERZ"
  22. Considering the Brewers own beat writer reported multiple times that the option was Vesting + Team option, it's not surprising people were confused.
  23. Hawing, I could definitely see it. Upward angled font, bottom of the logo crossed by something, and the loop on the top left of both main letters.
  24. Blasphemy! The greatest NFL team ever wears orange and blue!!
