  1. Pulled hip flexor. Seriously. No running. No biking.
  2. I went with a 5 year peak. Again, you're neglecting to take any account for what parks Hernandez plays in. Considering he pitches in a park that is usually 5% better for pitchers than league average, and Sheets pitched in one that was 5% worse.... it brings them closer together.
  3. No, maybe it doesn't tell you that. But it sure can tell you that Trout has been worth 20% more than Cabrera this season. WAR is calculated on the RUNS level, then switched to WINS based on a league wide average. Variance will happen on a team by team basis, the same way some teams will drastically out perform it's wins/losses based on runs scored/runs allowed in a given year. If you use baseball-reference WAR (and not fangraphs) the pitching side of things will be more accurate because they use ERA and not FIP. http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/correlating_war_to_same_season_wins/
  4. Sheets 2004-2008: 134 ERA+, 5.16 K/BB, 1.095 Whip. Felix 2008-2012: 136 ERA+, 3.11 K/BB, 1.180 Whip. Yeah, not comparable at all. Yes, Sheets was hurt, and pitched 300 fewer innings.... but when he was on the mound, he was just as good. Context is everything, Sheets pitched in a MUCH higher run environment than Felix.
  5. The distance from the back of the batters box, to the back of the umpires box is 8 feet. So he is at least 10 feet away from home plate, which is where the baseline is by the definition of the rule. A straight line from him to the bag when the tag is attempted. Yes, it was a great play, but he absolutely should have been called out. The equivalent at 2nd base would be a guy running onto the outfield grass to avoid a tag then stopping by running in a circle and going back to the bag.
  6. The rule isn't different at home. The umpire blew the call. You cannot do that sort of thing. What's to stop a guy from running all the way to the dugout to avoid a tag? He didn't even attempt to reach the plate with a slide until he was about 10 feet past home plate.
  7. Ichiro wasn't out of the baseline? Are you kidding me? He ran 6 feet out of the way to get to the plate there. You can't do that.
  8. Or those who decide to stop and wait for the rest of their friends directly in the middle of the flow of people walking, instead of taking 4 more steps to where no one is moving at all.
  9. He also made 61 more outs than Trout.
  10. I saw this idea posted (by Tango, I think) and I really liked it. If the teams end up tied, they play 3 games. If they have a different record, the team with the better record gets a bonus win, and it becomes a 2 game series where they only need to win one more game.
  11. I sort of feel the same way, in the AL I'll root for ABNY (anyone but New York)... but really O's or A's... go!
  12. Williams won the Triple Crown twice and didn't get the MVP. It is not an automatic thing. I find it hilarious that all the old school guys who usually promote grit, and speed, and defense and playing the game the right way are all spouting about the triple crown instead of the grit and speed and inspiration that Trout brought to the Angels (who were 6-14 when he got called up and who ended up with MORE WINS than the Tigers).
  13. I never understood the love for him. Times he's finished in first place: 0. Time's he's finished 4th or worse: 8.
  14. I questioned it because the odds of a guy in his mid 30's who's never been healthy staying healthy for 3 seasons was slim to none.
  15. B vitamins. You'd get the same effect taking a multivitamin, or drinking OJ before you go to bed.
  16. A few of my friends and I plan to have a taco night as soon as they are found in Milwaukee. Yes, we're going to order like 30 cool ranch tacos.
  17. That tonight will be my last tailgate of the season... hopefully it will live up to the hype. Wings! Brats! S'mores!
  18. Bumping this up, with the season winding down. I really feel like more information about former Braves and Brewers needs to get out to the Media who votes on this stuff, and I feel like we've got an opportunity to spearhead it. Johnny Logan needs to be in as does Del Crandall.
  19. If our manager puts Estrada back in the pen after what he's shown as a starter he should be fired on the spot.
  20. You forgot base running (not including stolen bases). Trout has been 10 runs better than Miggy on the base paths this year. Let's look at wOBA as well, which includes stolen bases. Trout: .423 Cabrera: .417 Trout has been as good an offensive player as Cabrera, before you account for base running. And before you account for any defensive value.
  21. My point being, if you're going to praise him for having better counting stats, you have to punish him for where he's been worse as well.
  22. They went 1-5 vs Colorado, 8-7 vs Houston and 0-3 vs Kansas City and 3-3 against Minnesota and 2-5 vs Philly. They were really, really terrible against bad teams (except the Cubs... ha!)
  23. How about they use this: Cabrera Trout OPS: .993 .954 OBP: .392 .393 Runs Created (hitting only): 134 129 Runs from Base running: 0 10 Robbed HRs: 0 4 Stolen Bases: 4 47 CS: 1 4 Outs made: 435 373 Runs Created/27 outs: 8.1 9.0 So, as much as everyone tells me how great Cabrera is, in his counting stats, he leads the league in GIDP, and has made 62(!) more outs on the season than Trout.
  24. There was an idiot trying to get this started in the right field bleachers on Friday night. He got shouted down almost immediately.... the topper being a middle aged woman yelling at him, "Didn't your mother love you?"
  25. With 11 K's tonight, they sit at 1365 this season, and need exactly 40 over the last 4 games to set the record.
