  1. Seriously, if you guys managed this bullpen this season, you'd need a 15 man bullpen. "He gave up two hits! NEXT!"
  2. It's not Loe's fault. Clearly this is just the curse of Takatroy Saikins.
  3. Jonah Keri chimes in.... basically says the Dodgers are the new Yankees and haven't even scratched the surface...
  4. He proved that even the smallest step, can make the biggest impression. http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/25/us/neil-armstrong-obit/index.html He rarely gave interviews as his age advanced, and when he did he always downplayed his part in the moon landing, saying it was an accomplishment for thousands of people, not just the astronauts.
  5. Marcum.
  6. I just heard Joe Block get excited while making a call. I'm not even kidding.
  7. I think Segura's injury also expedited things and a move needed to be made immediately.
  8. A guy suspended is a guy suspended. That was my point. No need to fly off the handle over an innocuous comment. Where do you draw the line? Is it only arbitrarily for steroid guys? Amphetamine guys? What about spitting on an umpire? What about tossing a ball at a lady in the stands? Maybe they aren't all treated equally, but I don't see how when the guy's 50 games are up, his suspension is up is any different if he's suspended in April or in the 2-week window where his team getting to the playoffs makes the 50 games run out during that timespan. What if Cabrera gets caught two weeks earlier, and his suspension is over the last week of Sept, instead of the first week of the playoffs? It seems to me you're wanting to punish guys more based on when they are arbitrarily randomly drug tested (and caught) in August instead of May.
  9. That Ryan Braun guy, he's pretty good at that baseball thing.
  10. So if a guy gets suspended for beaning someone for 5 games on August 30th they shouldn't be eligible for the post season? Or if he gets caught in April, he should be eligible?
  11. Sorry to keep going down this road, but I just saw this article, which is pertinent and does say there is such a thing as clutch, at least how I define it (not letting pressure ruin your performance). http://olympics.time.com/2012/07/19/lolo-jones-olympic-hurdler/ Again, no one says someone cannot be clutch. The problem lies in the idea that previous clutchiness will predict future clutchiness or that someone has this ability to raise their game to another level during a specific AB (if that were the case, why didn't they do that ALL THE TIME and be the greatest player EVER?). Not-pooping-yourself in pressure situations does not equal being clutch in my mind.
  12. Defensive mistakes cannot be counted on as they can happen whether the contact play is on or not. If it's not on, the 3B could just as easily throw the ball into the stands. The guy almost NEVER gets caught in a rundown as he is breaking for the plate and the ball is hit behind him. He doesn't know where the throw is, or if he needs to get caught in a rundown until it is too late. I'd wager that the guy gets to second 20% of the time at the absolute most. That means the run expectancy difference comes out to be .117, which means it needs to be successful 1 in about 8.5 times, where it would NOT have been successful otherwise for it to be viable. I just doubt that it does that.
  13. The contact play with the infield in is a stupid, stupid proposition. That is an out at home 90% of the time. If the ball is NOT hit right at an infielder, it is a run anyway. Why put it on?
  14. The Brewers are 29-32 against teams that are currently under .500 this season. That's just horrible.
  15. I don't think he ever testified (or lied to the police) that he didn't take anything, so I doubt he'd be in line for any legal trouble. I am unsure if any further suspension could be levied by MLB itself, however.
  16. He's carrying a .700 OPS and is a backup IFer who is cheap. I guess I can't see what the major problem is? Would you rather have Izturis? I sure wouldn't. Now, if you want to question carrying Ishikawa instead of Taylor Green... (and then having Green back up 3B/2B/1B)... then I'd agree with you.
  17. At Colorado Rockies games, they race a Tooth, Toothpaste, and a Toothbrush. Seriously. I thought the racing Pirogi's in Pittsburgh were bad.
  18. What a joke of a trade Orlando just made. My gosh. The awful stuff NJ was offering was infinitely better than what they just got.
  19. So, let's just say that hitting in front of Braun, for only Carlos Gomez, is worth 10 points of OBP. Give him .300 OBP overall. That still means he is making 60 more outs per season in front of Ryan Braun than a .350 OBPing Rickie Weeks would. That's just stupid. Why can't he steal and have the pitcher pull the bat back? That risk isn't worth it?
  20. $5,000 is a lot of money for almost exactly the same car. Honestly, if the salesman won't knock down the price when you tell him, "Hey, I'm going to buy this other one for 5 grand less then" then forget them. You've already bought a car from them, they should be catering to you, word of mouth is king in car sales.
  21. http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/at-me-bro-you-come.jpeg
  22. As long as we get Larry Bernandez in the deal, I'm okay with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf_HoE-mRoQ
  23. So true. I looked at the last 10 years of team salaries, and while the average salary has gone from 71 million in 2003 to 98 (27 mil) million in 2012, the mean salary has only gone from 68 million to 85 million, (17 mil) while the average of the top 3 spending teams has gone from 125 million to 181 million (56 million!!) MLB has gone to more and more into the haves and the have-nots when it comes to free agency.
  24. Drinks: You can bring in anything non-alcoholic in sealed plastic bottles. I bring in a few bottles of water almost every game.
  25. I was seriously scared when I heard Izturis was going to Washington that they'd bring him back...
