  1. Good job of cherry picking one sentence and ignoring the larger point I was making. They got lucky this year, if you really believe that is some sort of "Magical Skill" RRR has, I expect it to be duplicated for as long as he is a manager. Also, 2nd, and 3rd order winning percentages show the team overperformed by a solid 4 wins.
  2. Wow. I wish I were going to UW now.... best college roommates ever?
  3. Thank you Doug Melvin. I haven't yet, nor will I ever doubt the mustache after this season.
  4. Well, the Brewers went 24-6 vs the Pirates and Astros this season combined. I honestly don't know how you can say last season's talent was anywhere near this seasons. This year Loe was their 5th or 6th best bullpen option, last year he was their second -- and Macha used him to have the best season of his career. This year Wolf was their 4th starter (and had a much better season) and last year he was their #2. Their pythag record last year was 76-86, so they got one extra win. This year, it was 90-72, so they got quite lucky in getting 6 extra wins. Oh, and also, Macha pulled his non-performing vets from their jobs, like, say, putting a rookie in to close for the all time saves leader, when better (or simply alternative) options presented themselves. RRR stuck with his all season long. Heck, he even tried to stick with Wil Nieves.
  5. With RISP: .237 average, .614 OPS, with men on .216 avg, .567 OPS. He did something, he pooped the bed with his opportunities. To compare: McGehee with RISP: .244/.738, with men on, .226/.651.
  6. Everything here. 194 PA of sporadic playing time over 3 years is definitely small sample. And I think Gamel would be an upgrade defensively at 1st. Could you have more reliable figures with a larger sample? Sure. But if someone is at or below replacement for that period its going to stick. You just won't be able to convince me that he is going to be a successful everyday player. We are talking about how to replace Prince and we are talking about 1B that is right at replacement. Thats just not going to get it done. I would just like you to know that for his first 100 PA's, Prince Fielder OPS'd lower than Gamel did. 194 PA's is a ridiculously small sample size.
  7. Pretty darn close to it, not to mention a full season of Axford, vs 2 months of horrible Hoffman. Baseball Reference pitching WAR totals, based on ERA not FIP like fangraphs: 2010: 1.6, 2011: 17.8.
  8. They won 77 games with the 2nd highest ERA in the league, and 88 ERA+. They had 27 starts from the poo poo platter of Jeff Suppan, Manna Parra and Doug Davis. Not to mention 31 starts from Dave Bush.
  9. I still say it is highly unlikely Yuni is back; he would be due for a $2 Million raise and Melvin will have an opportunity to improve the position this year. Last year he was probably more or less forced to take him in the Grienke deal and with a $4 Million salary he was hesitant to just dump the guy. My opinion is that there is about a 15% chance that Yuni is back. Doug could find plenty of ways to spend that $6 Million that would be due to Yuni. 2 Mil of that 6 mil is already spent (Yuni has a 2M buyout), and I believe we got that 2M from KC in the trade for him (via Seattle) so really, his salary next year is the same 4M as it was this year. I really hope that his playoff performance doesn't get him reinstated with the team.
  10. George Petak would be quite the surprise, but kind of disappointing. Red Schoendienst?
  11. Lets go Brewers. We can't have you being the only team to lose to St Louis today. Bring back those Angry Birds. http://www.cubby-blue.com/.a/6a00d83451fe4669e2015434a58e02970c-800wi
  12. The Weeks shirsey will be back out, it's 4-0 this post season, the one game Molitor change did not go well. I'm over in 203 today.... and I'm hungry already, the beer brats are smelling great on the stove right now.
  13. As the Ultimate Warrior theme song blares over the loud speaker, charging in from the home dugout comes none other than.... TODD COFFEY!
  14. They didn't need to go 3-4, but the criticism is deserved across the board. For example Braun's lack of an effort of backing up Kotsay on that play - you can't deny that alone could have prevented a run. He deserveds JUST as much criticism as Kotsay, if not more since his play - or lack of - is something your taught to do from little league on. People need to go watch the play again, it's no given that Morgan gets there with the way he has been misjudging balls lately and that ball was a blooper to left center - people are acting like it was a routine fly. I'm not trying to rag on Prince/Braun/Yo - we aren't here without them - the point I'm making, is with the way the big boys played last night, does anyone really think with Morgan or Gomez playing the Brewers win that game? I just don't see it...... what they would have gained on defense would have been most likely lost on offense. Unless you truly believe that Kotsay is at fault for all 4 runs.......... but I just don't buy that logic. Lets try this once more. I/We are not complaining that Kotsay did not make the play or try his best. I/We are complaining about the DECISION to play Kotsay in CF in the first place. The managers job is to put the team in the best position to win, RRR did NOT do that last night. As for Morgan: He has had 3 problems judging balls recently that I have seen, all of them on things hit directly at him.... I have never seen him have a problem judging a ball hit to either side of him.
  15. Weather two hours out really isn't that unpredictable. If something is plainly going to hit (or even has an 80% chance of hitting) there is no difference in using Hawkins to start the game, as opposed to starting the 7th inning, and having Yo start the 3rd. Rules question: Is the pitcher considered in the lineup, before he throws a pitch? IE: Could Kotsay hit in the first, Gomez be listed as the SP, and then have Hawkins slide into the 2-slot in the order?
  16. There is no way this game gets played without a delay. I wouldn't start Yo. I'd save him for tomorrow and go Johnny wholestaff as much as possible tonight.
  17. Has anyone ever given up a HR on a ceremonial first pitch?
  18. What a game. The Keg was rockin' tonight. I was impressed that a Friday hangover was nowhere to be found. A few quick notes: Gomez looked safe on his bunt attempt. I cannot believe that Freese ball went out of the park, it looked like a can-o-corn off the bat. I can't believe RR brought Greinke out for the 7th. It almost seemed as if they forgot to tell Saito to warm up.
  19. Macha had the gall to pull Hoffman from the closers role and put an unheralded guy named John Axford in the 9th inning for the Brewers, that worked out okay.Macha also managed to use Kameron Loe correctly, and gave him his best season in the bigs. I really think, had the teams ERA been a run and a half lower last year, everyone in or out of the clubhouse would've loved Ken Macha.
  20. If you get there by 1, you'll be fine. I wouldn't push it if you're rolling in at 2ish or later, though.
  21. Tailgate prep is finished. 2 hours until I meet my friends to roll in. I am ready to rock.
  22. You forgot two:Kameron Loe pitches the 8th inning, and your CF hits 2nd.
  23. Ventura getting out of the dugout to argue a call in Texas.... Nolan stands up from his seats behind home plate....
  24. I'm going to be there on Friday, but I almost don't want to be. That is how anxious I am.
