  1. He has to serve his suspension before he can play. I believe he still has 50 games left.
  2. Saves his legs a bit, and a below average 3B would be an above average 1B. I'd imagine it depends on where the Green/Gamel situation plays out. I saw lethargy all last year at 3B and SS.... as long as the team wins and Ramirez hits, they'll be fine.
  3. Pythagorean record is computed after the fact, based on runs scored and runs allowed over the course of the season.
  4. Green, Gamel, Ramirez. Those 3 will be playing, a lot the first 50 games. I could very well see Gamel getting some time in LF.
  5. If this was a show about either action or zombies, I would agree. They need time to develop characters and they will take a lot of it. Some will say, and I will agree in some instances, that this show focuses on the wrong characters at times however.I guess I felt as though they stalled, going through the exact same plot device for multiple episodes, without giving any depth to any of the group dynamics, until it all finally exploded in the last 1.5 episodes. I don't know, it just didn't add depth for me, it didn't make me more attached to any of the characters, it felt like a constant reminder of how each character acts over and over again.
  6. This means McGehee is as good as gone, right?
  7. With the lockout impending, the Bradley center couldn't take the wait-and-see approach for booking other gigs, and gave away a lot of the NBA-reserved dates.
  8. I loved the finale, but it just seemed like they could've done the same arc in 4 episodes instead of 10.
  9. Jonah Keri chimes in, awesomely as always... ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=757302#p757302 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=26571
  10. Barry Foster did something similar in the NFL years ago. He just let a kickoff go over his head into the endzone, and never bothered to pick it up, thinking it was a punt.... not a live ball.
  11. "Midway through 1993", is exactly what the % numbers support, and the graph supports -- jumping almost exactly halfway to the sustained 1994 and onward numbers. The spliced graph is just a zoom in of another graph on that page, on the left sidebar. Here is how it was created. Again, the graph is level from 1980 thru 2008, except the '87 season (which no one has shown why that is weird yet, as far as I know). So unless steroids completely propagated through the league in about a 12 month period, something else is the cause of this.
  12. The actual numbers (which are on the site I linked to, I believe, http://steroids-and-baseball.com/ ) show that the jump occurred somewhere mid '93 to 94.Can't find the numbers there, but from THT, HR% rates by season: 1988 2.7% 1989 2.6% 1990 2.8% 1991 2.9% 1992 2.5% 1993 3.1% 1994 3.7% 1994 3.7% 1995 3.6% 1996 3.9% 1997 3.7% 1998 3.7% The second graph is just the years lined up side by side, with the discontinuity edited out. No steady increase in power numbers (as if, more and more guys started using steroids), just one massive jump in a 1 year period. Here is an article on the CT scans of balls from Aaron's era and Bond's era.
  13. Power factor is Total Bases per hit.The reason they use that instead of HR/AB or something like that is to eliminate non-hitting changes that may have caused something: Such as changing the size of the strike zone. Once again, if steroids were slowly finding their way into the league, the power factor would go up gradually. Instead it jumped HUGELY midway through the 1993 season.
  14. If PED's don't help improve player performance, explain the glut of HR's from the late 80's to early 2000's when PED abuse ran rampant through MLB.http://steroids-and-baseball.com/http://steroids-and-baseball.com/GRAPHICS/half-size-PF.jpg To summerize: Unless everyone started juicing exactly at the all star break in 1993 and it all took effect at exactly the same time, they changed the ball. Here is an edited version of the graph, with the 1993/94 disconnect edited out: http://steroids-and-baseball.com/GRAPHICS/small-SteroidEra.jpg Where is the steady power increase from steroids?
  15. Boy let's hope so. This brings the quality of PED testing into question, among several other issues. Two thoughts: First, the most likely: Braun really is on something. He wasn't caught until this year. Not in the minors or five seasons in the majors. If these tests take so long to catch somebody, how many guys are still using? Second, there's the obvious (but slim) chance that Braun is being honest here. Let's hope this is the case. Or, third, he had a lingering leg injury in July and decided he needed to take something extra to get himself back into shape.
  16. K Rods 12M could be Saito, Hawkins, Loe and Hairston. I'd rather have those 4 guys than K Rod. Paying a guy 15% of your budget to pitch 4% of your innings is just bad business. Especially since our manager will use him in the 8th inning and only the 8th inning all season.
  17. Paul has a say, in the sense that he won't sign an extension with a team he doesn't want to play for.... so New Orleans gets way less back from a team he won't extend with.
  18. Leinie's Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout (not technically a seasonal, but I think they just released another batch).
  19. A bottle opener/keyring? Catcher in the Wry (Uke's autobiography) The '82 team dvd? Heck, just tell him you'll take him to a game next season http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. Wow, this Chris Paul thing is nuts. Just.... nuts.Amazing. I am shocked.
  21. They'd be better sliding Beltran to 1B (to save his legs) than Hart. Gamel is done at 3B. Green is the backup if McGehee fails.
  22. An oldie, but a goodie.... Tango on Blyleven As for the fielding play, they only give credit to the player who makes the play. The same way they only give credit to the 3B if he cuts off a ball going to the SS.
  23. Does anyone know where the 13.5M number came from? Cots says he made 11.5M. Unless for some reason half his buyout counted for the past season? Arbitration contracts are different from FA contracts. Arby players can be cut for 1/6th (30 days) of their salary. K-Rod isn't signing a free agent deal, he's accepting salary arbitration.
  24. Question, to those who know more about Arbitration than me: Doesn't him accepting to be a setup guy then pull him from the pool of closers and into the pool of setup guys, like Hawkins, and Saito.... where he should get paid a LOT less? Why should he get "Closers money" if he AGREED to NOT be a closer? Could the Brewers make that argument?
  25. He's a guesser, and a bad guesser at that. He has tremendous power, he just has no idea where the pitch is going to go. I hold out hope, his swing is so smooth and quick, that he'll have a Bautista-esque revelation, but I doubt it.
