  1. So, I looked at some numbers: In Counsell's 4 full years as manager (16-19), only 2 players have gotten 650 PA. Jonathan Villar in 2016 (Chris Carter had 644) and Yelich in 2018. Yelich has had 76% of his PA's hitting 2nd since he became a Brewer. 6% leadoff, 18% hitting 3rd.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/brewers/ballpark/covid-19 The "No bag" policy and the no carry-ins allowed.... using covid-19 as an excuse.
  3. 3rd team all Big10 last year. He was pre-season All Big10 this year. He just can't make shots anywhere. Big 10 season: 13% from 3. 1.7 FTA per game. Last year: 36.5% from 3. 3.1 FTA per game.
  4. Couple things I've gotten hooked on lately: For All Mankind - Halfway through the first season diving into how things at NASA (and in the US, I suppose) might've been different had the Soviets gotten to the moon first. Really interesting thought exercise and I've been enjoying it so far (it doesn't hurt that I'm a NASA/Space enthusiast) Avatar, The Last Airbender - a mid 2000's Nickelodeon cartoon. Hooked me from the first two episodes and enjoyed it through all 3 seasons.
  5. Half the problem in the playoffs in recent years has been the reliance on role players because Giannis hasn't been capable of taking over a game in the 4th quarter the way that LeBron or Steph Curry frequently do. If Giannis can continue to do what he did last night against top-tier competition, the Bucks will be in excellent shape come playoff time. It's also been, and I am reluctant to say this, on the shoulders of Giannis for players struggles. He doesn't facilitate ball movement or player movement or defensive movement the way LeBron and Curry do. He waits, waits some more, then reacts somewhat passively to what the defense is doing. Giannis made two passes in the first half as the double team was coming to him. Anticipating what was happening and creating in-real time. Not dribbling away from the double team into the corner and flinging a soft pass that doesn't get there quick enough to make the defense rotate (what he normally does). If those passes come more often, this offense is going to become lethal.
  6. Sweet jimmy, Toronto didn't let Blue Jay's play in Toronto this summer?? That's ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. Umm...the US-Canada border is closed. Look at what the NHL is doing. The Canadian teams are stuck in their own division and can only play each other in Canada. The rules seems to be working since the Canadian NHL teams haven't had a single COVID cancellation to date. and the Raptors, of Canadian NBA fame are playing home games in Tampa Bay.
  7. A PS4 is definitely one of those things I'd look to buy used.
  8. While it doesn't look like there any future Hall of famers in that class Embiid has had the best career so far. Embiid is on the path to be a hall of famer, as is Jokic.
  9. The market is absolutely nuts in and around Madison, the need for student housing and the explosion of the tech industry has caused a huge housing shortage - people keep buying up homes and renting them - and there's always push back when trying to build any sort of large apartment complexes to help alleviate the crunch. Have two family members who looked for 6 months, one decided to just build a new house, the others are still looking and it's been nearly a year (they are waiting on the "right deal for the right place" They got an apartment in Waunakee instead of staying in the northwoods over the winter because places are up less than a few days usually. It's been that way for over a year now.
  10. This is kind of where I'm at. Statistically he's been better in a lot of advanced stats but it's not translating into a better team on the court. And I know they just won five games, but Holiday sitting out does not explain away how bad this team looks. I thought Holiday would make a much bigger difference than he has. I was giving some room for "gelling" but we are 30 games into the season and we look like the 6th seed in the Western Conference on a good day. And it's great if Giannis wanted Holiday, until it doesn't work if Giannis squirms his way into a trade in 2023 as a result of himself not being a great GM. Turns out when you're implementing rather large changes defensively and offensively and change 6 of your top 11 players (Giannis, Pat, Brook, DDV and Midds are the 5 returning) on the roster and then have a condensed schedule, almost no training camp..... it takes time to get the pieces to fit. Do I wish they'd be hitting their stride right now? Absolutely. It really looked like they were turning a corner 10 days ago before Jrue got put into Covid jail. While I'd say something definitely looked wrong with the team the last two games - I don't know if the team has the flu, if they are just bored with the regular season or if they all need 6 hours in Cancun I cannot say.
  11. I looked at the date on this post 3 times and re-read it four times and still thought, "JJ Hardy?"
  12. Your card will decline (or at least is should). They can only be used for transactions that are flagged the proper way through VISA. The same way as if you use an HSA or FSA card for non-medical charges.
  13. MLB doesn't want to speed up games. If they did there would be a pitch clock. They'd actually enforce the "No stepping out of the box" rule. The inordinate amount of time between a pitch where nothing happened (called ball or strike) and the next pitch is what is destroying the game. Watch a game where Suter pitches and see how much more enjoyable it is, then go watch a game where any other pitcher is pitching (let alone some of the worst offenders like Darvish or Greinke) The lack of balls-in-play is way, way, way down the list of things that are causing problems.
  14. They don't care, they have a contract with FSWI to broadcast exclusively locally. The Brewers cannot stream anything anywhere else, and get paid the same amount from FSWI regardless if people can watch the games or not. The Brewers don’t have a TV contract currently...though it does sounds like they are moving toward an agreement. Presumably with FSWI or whatever it is called now. Gah, crap. I thought it ran through 2022 for some reason.

  16. Turns out revamping both the offense & defense (which is needed), getting 7 new players and then playing 19 games in 34 days makes it tough to actually practice and get better at those things. I have faith they'll figure it out, but so often they don't seem like they are on the same page as a team on the floor.
  17. The guy was about 5'10" and weighed 165 soaking wet... of course he wasn't a good running back! (I know, you meant Jackson)
  18. Things that have really changed offensively: 1) They are putting a guy in the dunker spot. On the baseline, just outside the lane, usually opposite where the on-ball action will be. 2) They are setting way more ball screens. Giannis has become a willing screener this year for guys not named Kyle Korver. 3) People other than Giannis handle the ball more. Bud spent 2 years trying to unlock playmaker Giannis and maybe he just never gets there. He is a willing passer, but he isn't a good playmaker. He doesn't see the double team coming and make the right read. He still gets surprised by the double team, then looks around, thinks about the right read and then tries to make that pass.
  19. Wisconsin ranks 48th in percentage of vaccines which have been administered. https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/public-health/states-ranked-by-percentage-of-covid-19-vaccines-administered.html
  20. It shocked me that Torri Hunter got a higher percentage of votes than Jim Edmonds and will stick around on the ballot. I dove in and came to realize that it is just because of the year he was put on there. Edmonds never got his shot, coming in to a completely loaded ballot: 10 Hall of Famers(!!!) PLUS Clemens, Bonds, McGwire and Schilling! https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2016.shtml Either you're a hall of famer or you aren't, let the writers vote for however many they want to. Ballots should be public. /endrant of how stupid the voting is for the HoF.

  23. Ersan barely played in the bubble last year and played a total of 0 meaningful minutes in the playoffs. He isn't missed at all.
  24. It is a catch-22. When the federal government makes all the decisions, they can't tailor the needs of each individual state that vary greatly. People would complain that the decision doesn't meet their needs. If they hand down the power to states and they aren't competent or ready to take it, people complain. Hopefully, we won't get enough "practice" to be good at this. It's almost like communication and building out a plan would've been useful over the past 6 months.
