  1. 1. There's no way they will rank any 2-loss teams ahead of Wisconsin. 2. Now that Notre Dame has been exposed, what exactly has Georgia accomplished? My prediction (I basically agree with Brew4U) 1. Alabama 2. Oklahoma 3. Miami 4. Clemson 5. Wisconsin 6. Auburn 7. Georgia 8. USC 9. Ohio State 10. TCU or Notre Dame It's an easy path for Wisconsin, but I fear they don't match up well with OSU, plus I have PTSD from the last B10 championship game. Yet another week that solidifies why we don't need an 8-team playoff. So much fun to have elimination games every week.
  2. I'm glad the seating bowl itself is staying intact. It's one of the best in spring training and suits the Brewers perfectly. They didn't need to be playing in front of empty seats at a larger shared facility. Also glad to see that the economic development BS with sports stadiums...or at least spring training facilities...is finally being debunked.
  3. Exactly--and if UW had scheduled Alabama they would still be facing that exact same situation...win or lose.
  4. 100 miles! (it was an ultramarathon so mixed light running and power walking) Well done. Thanks! I'm not in a rush to do it again
  5. Our 'secret' parking garage is the Boston Store garage on 4th and Michigan. Only 4 blocks from the BC, < $10, and hardly anyone ever uses it.
  6. 100 miles! (it was an ultramarathon so mixed light running and power walking)
  7. They've abused them Doesn't help that they can't throw a slider thanks to the slippery baseballs...
  8. Yes, lots of great Badger memories at the BC--both basketball and the 2006 hockey championship. The loudest I ever heard the building was the 2004 tourney game against Richmond where they were down ~10 at half and went on a huge run in the second half. It also seemed really loud at the Oregon game a couple years ago but I wasn't there. I guess I'm the outlier here...growing up in the late 90s/early 2000s my Dad took my brothers and I to a ton of events at the BC--mostly Marquette games but also the first two Milwaukee Wave championship victories (the second one was nearly a sellout with a crazy atmosphere), Admirals games, and occasional Bucks. My first ever sporting event was a Marquette game there around 1995 or so--I just remember we were near the top of the steep upper level and I liked eating nachos. The most fun I had there was when Tom Crean was coaching Marquette and the Wade/Diener/Novak trifecta was at its best. The student section went from nothing to completely full and the building was rocking. Although even before that there were some big wins...I remember Mike Deane beating Bob Huggins (Cincinnati) in an intense physical game somewhere in the early 2000s. Later in the Big East era there was a blowout upset of #1 UConn that we almost didn't go to because it was a weeknight and Marquette was a big underdog...I seem to remember a Novak breakaway dunk sealing that one. Of course the new building will be better in every way, but the BC had its moments. Still a chance for a deep NBA playoff run this spring.
  9. Being reported on Twitter. Obviously we know what Maddux is capable of given his track record, it's a bummer to have him back in the NL Central and especially with the Cards. One has to wonder how the Nationals let him get away.
  10. The players have asked for less arduous travel schedules and more time off.
  11. Yep, the Blue Jays' TV ratings are what really won the Expos back. The raw viewership numbers were incredible during the playoffs. There is also a huge baseball following in Vancouver BC. From a PR standpoint the exhibition crowds looked really good, and they've been able to sustain it for several years now despite it no longer being a novelty.
  12. Mexico City has a 0% chance because of the travel distance issue. It is the main reason for doing the whole expansion/realignment thing in the first place! It's also why Portland has a big advantage over another Texas team. The whole idea is to get the Rangers out of the west division, not add another Texas team for the Pacific time zone teams to have to fly to. If the Montreal situation fell through I could see Charlotte being the backup. But Montreal is easily the #1 city on the list so I don't think MLB will miss the opportunity to get a team back there.
  13. I don't see the point of doing a radical realignment with 4-team divisions. I would add both Portland and Montreal to the AL and send the Astros back to the NL (or potentially the Royals or Twins). One of the central time zone teams still gets stuck with eastern time zone teams, but at least there are only 4 team divisions so it's not as bad as it otherwise could be.
  14. 32 teams is inevitable and one of them will be Montreal. There is plenty of evidence out there that baseball will succeed in Montreal...Jays' TV ratings, preseason attendance, etc. I'm not entirely convinced on Portland but they do have excellent fan support for the Blazers and Timbers. If an ownership group can get a retractable roof stadium built...why not. It's certainly a more interesting place than Charlotte or Indianapolis or another Texas team. The Rays situation is not as bad as it looks from attendance...TV ratings are fine although they will need a better-located stadium at some point. The big selling points are really the realignment and 156-game schedule, both of which look like big pluses. Some teams (e.g. Seattle) are at a huge disadvantage right now because of the schedule. This might be wishful thinking but I see this as an opportunity to get rid of the DH rather than implement it league-wide. The travel improvements + extra roster spots from expansion are big wins for the players, so maybe the usual argument about loss of position player roster spots would be easier to stomach. I also think that MLB defense has gotten too good and it would make things a little more interesting to get some questionable defenders in there rather than hiding them at DH. There's also the argument that expansion will probably increase offense so letting pitchers hit might offset that a bit. Last thought...based on geography it is more logical for the Brewers, not the Twins to go to the north division. But I know I would be vehemently opposed to this (as I'm sure Twins fans are) if I knew the Brewers were going to be stuck with all those big market teams.
  15. Agreed that the craft beer bar is awesome. I'm not going to complain about paying $12 for the experience, especially since the beer options in the rest of the ballpark have always been sub-par.
  16. Unfortunately for the Nats, starting pitching doesn't win postseason series.
  17. Harper might have turned around the Cubs/Nats series. Huge HR at a critical moment.
  18. Thread for the ALDS and NLDS...Houston taking care of business in game 1.
  19. Looked like he broke his foot. If that's it, it was a great comeback year for Thames, sad to see it end that way.
  20. I'm glad the lead disappeared when it did. It would have hurt more to see it slip away in September.
  21. Tonight and tomorrow are both essentially must-wins in order to have a realistic shot this weekend. If they lose one they will be going into the weekend with < 10% playoff odds.
  22. Hard-hit ball snagged by Gonzalez with 2 on, no out. Can't get a break...
  23. Lots can go wrong here...3 easy outs please.
