  1. I have trouble getting worked up about replacement-level roulette. Most MLB teams are starting multiple sub-.220 hitters these days. No big deal.
  2. Note: title of thread has been changed to try and facilitate rational discussion.
  3. It's not just the Brewers, the watchability of MLB has been declining for ~5 years now. Strikeouts at an all-time high, batting average near top-10 lowest in history. More strikeouts than hits for the first time ever. Time of game still ridiculously long. Virtually all pitchers currently using illegal substances. The attendance decline has been accelerating so I assume there will be more action taken by the league in the offseason.
  4. Yeah it was a successful April, too bad the Cubs have their number but they picked up plenty of wins this month anyway. They are right on track for mid-to-upper 80s wins as expected. A sleepy offense gives me zero concern at this point.
  5. The wild card race is going to be crazy if the NL East remains a 3-team race.
  6. The 2002 Brewers actually hit for a higher average (.253) than the 2017 team (.249). Crazy how the game evolves.
  7. I would love to see the Brewers rattle off 12 in a row, capping it off Sunday at Wrigley...
  8. I think the most likely scenario is a reduced spring training...the season will start earlier but there will be more open dates to make up games in the event of bad weather. TV is ultimately what drives MLB revenue now. The Oakland A's had a game Tuesday with 100% free tickets. They drew their largest crowd since 2004. I think you will see more of that in the future. Some teams might stop charging admission for the upper level on weeknights. Ticket revenue is a smaller and smaller % of the budget every year. The Cubs should consider renting Miller Park for some "home" games in early April. They would have no problem drawing large crowds...probably outdrawing the Brewers.
  9. I'm a traditionalist as well, but that doesn't apply here. There used to be more scheduled Double-headers and less than 162 games. Traditionalists should be arguing for 154 games
  10. The Reds also announced that Thames is the new owner. [not my joke...saw it elsewhere...]
  11. It's subtle, but implicit bias is almost certainly playing a role here. I have no doubt it would pop out in a statistical survey of online comments. Not calling anyone out in particular, there are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike Villar. The "fans" as a unit tend to give longer leashes to some players than others and implicit bias is just one of many reasons for it.
  12. This rotation is so bad. We're always playing from behind.
  13. This kind of April weather is quite unusual--especially the extent and duration. I wouldn't make any long term decisions based on it. The climate is only going to get warmer. Miller Park should have air conditioning. These kind of events are forecast well in advance now so any of these teams (e.g. Minnesota) could have moved their weekend series to Milwaukee. But they can just reschedule for the summer and get a decent crowd then. That said, even the Blue Jays' indoor game got canceled because of falling ice poking a hole in their roof.
  14. Nice to see the other team have the defensive meltdown.
  15. There has been a big increase in knee-jerk reactions this year because of the higher expectations (which may not even been warranted). Nobody really saw it coming that the Pirates were going to win 100 games this year and make a deep playoff run. It was a big oversight for sure.
  16. I was so sure they were going to botch that popup. Exhale.
  17. Maybe he'll do us a favor and take some more PEDs. Only takes two more instances to get out of the contract!
  18. Braun needs to ride the pine when Yelich gets back.
  19. Crowd loves the effort by Lester. Keeping the fans happy.
  20. Yeah, the stream didn't come back in time. Bandy had already scored.
  21. Oh hey, they took the lead during a commercial break.
