  1. All excellent points. However, I don't think Dekker/Kaminsky/Hayes/Koenig are that much better athletically than the Butch/Taylor/Tucker group from the late 2000s. The two groups play similar defensively but more recently Wisconsin has opened up a little more offensively and not relied as much on the swing. It seems that Kaminsky's inside-out game made a huge difference--but maybe the 2007 team would have gone farther if Butch doesn't get injured. Who knows. Bennett's proven success in a top-tier conference is definitely a plus. I have no doubt he could come to Wisconsin and be successful, assuming he would want the job. I still favor Gard, knowing his recruiting ability and the fact that the program is in excellent shape right now.
  2. I don't want Bennett, Virginia is like the mid-2000s Bo Ryan teams--elite defensively but brutal to watch on the offensive end. It's not surprising that they have been upset in the tournament the last few years. I'm willing to give Gard a chance...I also wonder if Bo will hang around the program for a while like Gene Keady did.
  3. Unfortunately this isn't as juicy as I initially hoped. Sounds like they just guessed the password. Not really "hacking" in my opinion. It's unlikely to involve multiple teams or some complex technological scheme. That said, they are still going to get in big trouble and I will enjoy every second of it.
  4. It's really about how much of the contract the Brewers have to eat when they are ready to trade him. As long as Braun isn't blocking any prospects from getting playing time, he may as well play out the remainder of the contract in a Brewers uniform. He has a long, long way to go to actually be worth something more than a bag of baseballs.
  5. Yep. Obviously he's going to get booed, but nobody really cares. Is Nelson Cruz going to miss the ASG also?
  6. I just hope they have a replacement from outside the organization in mind already, otherwise they are just reshuffling the deck chairs.
  7. Besides the condescending tone of your post, the message is right. The value of Lucroy and Gomez will increase later, while the value of the veterans is the highest it will be right now. I think Mark A and Melvin are coming around to the right idea, but I doubt they are willing to go full Houston Astros. And who knows if that would be the right decision anyway.
  8. Pardon my ignorance, but why were the Brewers wearing batting practice jerseys today? Edit: never mind--read the first two pages.
  9. Ok so we are on the same page. I just don't want Roenicke fired without Melvin getting the boot as well. I'm not sure what Counsell has proven that would make him a successful GM. Maybe I just don't have enough information. Do we know Counsell's position on using analytics? Do we know if he has any skill evaluating talent?
  10. What's the point of accountability if the person taking the blame isn't the one who needs to be held accountable? Melvin is the one who is more responsible for the state of this team than anyone else...unless Attanasio is the one making the decisions which is certainly possible. Making a move to sell tickets this year sounds like another shortsighted decision that got us into this mess in the first place. I can't picture myself getting excited about another press conference where Melvin introduces yet another manager, makes the same cliche comments about the future, etc, etc.
  11. Unless we are talking a player-manager, no, the manager doesn't make much of a difference. There are only a couple great, difference-making managers in MLB, but part of what makes them great is that their philosophy aligns with management. Firing Melvin is the only decision that would be of any consequence.
  12. These suggestions show why replacing the manager is futile.
  13. My favorite Turnbow moment was from the game against the Mets on his bobblehead night. I was sitting in the field bleachers. The Brewers managed to score 4 in the bottom 8th to tie the game. Turnbow promptly comes in and blows it (I think it was a home run...). Immediately after that happened, Turnbow's head came flying onto the field from above, nearly hitting the right fielder.
  14. From the title, I was afraid this was going to be a request to boo the current team... Wes Helms on Opening Day was embarrassing. Gagne was booed frequently in 2008...although it was sometimes hard to distinguish if the fans were booing him or Yost for bringing him in. I know there have been others but it's probably for the best that they have been forgotten.
  15. The Rochelle tornado looked violent. The worst damage appears to be in Fairdale which is a little township to the NW. A quick assessment of the damage photos suggests at least EF-3, likely EF-4. Scary.
  16. At this point it isn't an overreaction to a few games. This is essentially the same roster as last year, the team that went 33-48 in the second half of the year. Yes, there are 159 games to go. They will string some wins together. The season's definitely not over yet. But people on this forum have been warning since 2011 that the day of reckoning would eventually come for trading away prospects--and I'm afraid it's almost here.
  17. This. Exactly. MLB is about two things right now: pitching and young talent. The Brewers have neither. Games are low scoring and fundamentals are more important than ever. The Brewers have mistake-prone free swingers. I don't care what happens to Roenicke. He isn't really the problem. Ned freakin' Yost was in the World Series last year. They need to clean out upper management, but unfortunately the owner hasn't realized the situation yet. He will soon enough. On paper, this is the 4th best team in the division. Any expectation of finishing higher than that is based on an unrealistic hope of everything going right like it did for about a month and a half last April/May.
  18. Rockies announcers are commenting on the "angry man" in the background.
  19. The improvement in pace of play is really nice. The games have been much more watchable this year.
  20. Duke was the better team and it didn't surprise me that Tyus was the best player on the court. Still, it really sucks to lose that one, especially knowing that they will probably never have that good of a chance to win it all for a long long time.
  21. I'm not going to put much stock into this one, but it certainly doesn't give me any feeling that they will be able to do much better than 75-80 wins this year, especially in the loaded NL Central. No free wins from the Cubs/Pirates/Astros anymore.
  22. They are probably looking for weapons/firearms. You can't take much time when there are 40,000 people to screen.
  23. I had to go through this a few times at Mariners games last year. They had "fast lanes" for people without bags. If the Brewers do the same thing, it is advantageous to avoid purses or carry-in bags. The actual passing through the metal detector is relatively easy--things likes belts don't set it off so you only have to empty your pockets to get through quickly.
