  1. Looks like about 10 PM ET to me based on the latest computer models, but I would be surprised to see it earlier. Once it starts, it isn't stopping.
  2. I think you mean Saturday October 4, Sunday October 5, and Tuesday October 7. That sets up an interesting conflict since I have NLDS game 3 tickets and an Ohio State football ticket. The football ticket is definitely going to be the one to go.
  3. I also agree that the bigger the sample size, the more likely players are going to regress toward their regular batting average. That's probability like we all learned in high school when we flipped a coin 100 times. The other issue is how do you define "clutch"? There's too much ambiguity for my liking.
  4. What an awful prediction. It's going to be off by 10 games. I'm never going to believe these projections again.
  5. Gagne's such an interesting case. It was funny tonight how the crowd went from booing him on a 3-0 count to getting behind him and giving him a standing ovation. He seems to be going through that difficult phase where an older (or steroid-free) pitcher has to reinvent himself after losing fastball velocity. It's too early to tell whether it's going to work, but he still has really nasty breaking pitches. He'll never be back with the Brewers, but I can see someone else giving him a shot for $3 million next year.
  6. What if the Mets end Sunday night 1/2 game ahead or behind the Brewers with a make-up game to play on Monday? Would the Mets have to play a doubleheader on Monday against the Cubs or Marlins during the day and the Brewers at night if they finish the season tied? Or, would the tiebreaker be moved to Tuesday?
  7. If the Mets go on to miss the playoffs, tonight's game will be remembered as one of the most horrific chokes in the final week in recent memory. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280924121_Cubs_Mets_119351516_lbig.png
  8. What an incredible turn of events. I guess we're starting to make up for all those awful breaks the past few weeks.
  9. 2 outs...there's still hope
  10. Who is Daniel Murphy and why is he on 3rd base?
  11. I agree. Who do we think we are, the Twins? I have no problem with sac bunts in the 9th inning in a tie game. I also have no problem with sac bunts with pitchers, Counsell, or Kendall. Or any hitter who is in a slump. But not Bill Hall in that situation. Any chance we can talk Bobby Valentine into coming back to the US?
  12. Cubs bringing in Howry. Oh well, we'll have to try and get that game back tomorrow.
  13. Just to make things a little more fun, the Low off the Carolina coast is starting to develop tropical characteristics. The other tropical disturbance around Puerto Rico is also expected to move into the Northeast. It could easily rain the whole weekend, with strong winds as well.
  14. If we can get 5 good innings out of CC, I'll be happy. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see a huge, dominant start from CC considering what he did to the Pirates last time.
  15. I still remember very clearly watching that game on TV. I was only 12 at the time!
  16. It would be agonizing if we win 4 out of the last 5 and then have to sit and wait for the Mets to play a few games to see if we're in. I guess I'll also comment that coastal lows like this one are very difficult to predict, so the timing/extent of the heavy rain is definitely in question. If I were the Mets, I would move Thursday's game to noon, since the rain is expected to go from Thursday evening to Saturday morning.
  17. Prince now 1 HR shy of Ryan Braun and .09 below Braun in OPS.
  18. It's definitely in the Cubs best interest to face the Brewers in the NLCS. The Brewers seem to be the weakest team out of the group besides maybe the Dodgers. Miller Park would also have a significant number of Cubs fans if the Brewers/Cubs played in the NLCS, although the Cubs do travel well everywhere. However, I don't see why Piniella would do anything against the best interests of his team in order to make or break someone else's playoff chances. Playing hard against the Brewers and not the Mets a very bad message to the Mets and goes against the unwritten rule that you have to play hard until the end of the season against other teams with a chance. I think he's doing it the right way--giving his players some rest but not too much, setting up his rotation for the playoffs, and limiting pitch counts.
  19. I believe he asked for a trade earlier this year because Leyland was using him as a DH. Sheffield insisted that he could still play outfield even though he is a terrible defender. Some things never change.
  20. There will be little or no boos tonight. 1. I agree, lots of the booing was Yost related. 2. They have gained back ground in the last few days and still have a decent shot 3. Weeknight crowds are generally nicer to the players anyway 4. We've got nothing to lose, go Brewers!!!
  21. If Prince cost himself $5 million in August and early September, he's earned at least $3 million of it back in the last week. It's the end of the season and he's been one of the few Brewers who looks inspired instead of tired and out of shape.
  22. This thing isn't over yet. I may have been angry and discouraged the past few weeks, but I'm ready to put those feelings aside and cheer for the Brewers this week. We don't have anything to lose, so why not go to the Pirates games, cheer loud, and save the booing for some other time. I still believe. Go Brewers!!!
  23. YES!!!!!!! Go Braves!!!!! Everyone who has tickets to the Pirates series needs to go to the games and CHEER LOUD!!!!!
  24. Congrats to Brian! Also, give credit to the Brewers for taking the risk and hiring someone without experience--I think he's done a fine job.
