  1. I HATE BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. So let me get this straight. I'm away from my computer for 10 minutes to do actual work and we are about to lose the game.
  3. Maybe they turned the air conditioning up too high?
  4. Gameday says it's 105 degrees in Arizona...
  5. Well...that was easy. I'm not convinced, though. Bring him back out for the 9th.
  6. I'd say there is a >50% chance that Torres will be needed today.
  7. Didn't there used to be a jacuzzi where the Tundra Territory is? I did hear a rumor that Houston was considering taking out that hill and replacing it with a swimming area...
  8. Parra's innings is just another argument for getting CC Sabathia. The nice thing is that we have Villanueva to fill in if necessary, even if it means relieving Parra in the 6th inning. I agree that the innings argument isn't going to sell when this fanbase has been waiting 26 years.
  9. I'd rather have them beat the big name pitchers. That will come in handy if we make the playoffs.
  10. They should set it up so Bush only pitches at Miller Park and Sheets only pitches on the road.
  11. That's a good point. Our current W/L record shouldn't tell us anything about the future. If we got lucky, that's great, but in the long run, we are likely to play at our talent level. That's also a good argument for the Cubs to win the Central this year. Even though they played insanely well early in the season, one would expect that they would continue to play over .500 ball. However, that doesn't take injuries or SOS into consideration. You could possibly throw home/road splits into there, but I imagine that will start to even itself out as well.
  12. I think Fielder could have used the day off. Rivera did a nice job defensively and somehow manages to get hits despite sitting for weeks at a time.
  13. Is JJ Hardy the new Geoff Jenkins? They are both solid defenders and this is the second time JJ's gone on a ridiculous hot streak after a long stretch of mediocre offense. Also, Yost looks like a genius for giving him a few days off, hopefully the same thing happens with Braun.
  14. But then how do you define 'talent'? The Cubs won the division, so IMO, they are the more talented team. Winning close games isn't pure luck, it involves fundamentals, a solid bullpen, and (to an extent) managing. Even if one team has a higher OPS and lower ERA than the other, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are more talented.
  15. It's a shame because the Sonics seemed to be well supported in Seattle. This just shows how important new arenas are to an NBA team's bottom line--that he would be willing to risk moving to an unproven market in order to get a more favorable arena situation. That being said, from what I saw during the New Orleans/OK City Hornets time, Oklahoma City fans are very excited about the NBA. The team should have a long honeymoon period since there isn't anything but college sports in Oklahoma. I think they will succeed. Since Kansas City is still begging for an NBA/NHL team for its new arena, I imagine that the NBA won't be coming back to Seattle for a long time.
  16. I have no problem judging a team by wins and losses, as long as it's over the long haul. By the end of the season, it's safe to say that most of the breaks have evened themselves out. The only legitimate argument is the unbalanced schedule. If you can't rank teams by wins after 162 games, when can you?
  17. I'm a little late into this since we are already 2-0 in July but I can see us going 7-3 on the big homestand, 2-5 on the post-ASB roat trip, and hitting a rough stretch at the end of the month. That looks like about 15-12 or 16-11, which means they play about 1-2 over .500 from here to the end of the month. Assuming things don't go terribly wrong, I can see why people are calling for 8-9 losses. This looks like our month to make a move on the Cubs. Hopefully we can have a shot at passing the Cubs when they come to MP.
  18. My advice is to buy a 6-pack of whatever beer you like best. Down it in the parking lot before the game and it will cost the same price as one beer in the stadium. That being said, for when I get a real job, a few more beers on tap would be nice.
  19. Will Ned Yost still be the manager? If so, he'll probably stick with the overpaid Lawrie over the new guy anyway.
  20. I understand the money issue, but why can't the Brewers and Cubs both play one series vs. the Twins and one vs. the White Sox every year? Same could be said for other teams as well, and it would lessen the unfairness certain teams getting 6 "easy" games every year.
  21. In Bush's defense, how is his outing tonight more 'real' than his last two?
  22. Grrrr....looks like we're on our way to another disappointing loss.
  23. I was expecting a 3-7 road trip and hoping for a 4-6 road trip. 5-5 would be great.
  24. I want Sabathia. I know that it will possibly put us at a disadvantage down the road. I know that it doesn't guarantee anything. But...I've been waiting my whole life for the Brewers to be in the playoffs. By the trade deadline, I'm convinced that we will be in the WC lead and in a better position to make the playoffs than last year. We have our offensive flaws, but trading for Sabathia will make us the WC favorite (if we aren't already) and will give us a decent shot to take on the Cubs. Furthermore, having Sheets and Sabathia as the 1-2 will give us a playoff combination that could potentially lead us to the World Series the way that Schilling and Johnson did for the D-backs. The main issue is that a playoff appearance will have a huge positive impact on the franchise for the next 3-4 years. This impact will be greater than any potential impact of the prospects that may/may not pan out. By calling multiple prospects up to the majors, we are also risking a year or two of struggle while the new guys become adjusted to the big leagues. Playoffs would give us a tremendous amount of additional revenue which could be used to go after free agents or foreign players who could have an immediate impact in 2009. It could give us money to sign Fielder and Hart--prospects can't do that. Of course...we could get Sabathia and miss the playoffs. But that's the risk you have to take--we're not going to be in this position every year.
