  1. I'm also impressed with Bush. We've known for awhile that he has the talent to succeed and he's finally showing that we made the right move by not giving up on him
  2. I'm not sure, but it has to be the first time that two MLB all-star closers were in the same AAA bullpen.
  3. It seems like every time a Brewers pitcher makes a big mistake, they say after the game that they shook off Kendall. Maybe it just took some time, but we have definitely seen significant improvement since the beginning of the season. It makes you wonder what kind of impact a Greg Maddux/Jason Kendall duo could have on the rest of the staff.
  4. Interesting to see that we already have an 85% chance of winning. However, that does not take into account that Dave Bush is pitching.
  5. Last year, we never would have scored the run in that situation. In fact, with Estrada, there never would have been a baserunner.
  6. So how long is Bush going to take the no-no tonight?
  7. I was also looking to argue Prince into the ASG, but I couldn't do it. Prince is 3rd in OPS and 5th in slugging. Looking at stats that regular people use, he's tied for 5th in HR, 8th in batting average, and the real killer--tied for 7th in RBI. Berkman, Pujols, and Gonzalez all deserve it more, especially considering Gonzalez plays at Petco. But to answer the original question, he's having a fine year unless you expect him to make a run at MVP every year--and he still could do that if he gets hot.
  8. Usually voting jumps do follow homestands. People at least hear about it at the ballpark, even if they don't fill out ballots while they are at the game. I thought he would do better too, but I guess we forget that the Reds have fans too (and they were also on a long home stand before this weekend)
  9. That Rivera comment is interesting. He has only 37 ABs. He is almost never used, not even for pinch hitting. He's our new Enrique Cruz. You could definitely argue that he is a waste of a roster spot.
  10. Even if Yost leaves after this season, the way that we will talk about him 10 years from now is still up in the air. This is generalizing, but... 1) What if we fall back out of the race this year and finish under .500? 2) What if we make it to the NLCS, but lose to the Cubs because Yost made a managing mistake in the 9th inning of game 7? 3) What if we make it to the World Series? If you are a Brewers fan, #1 would be a disaster, but so would #2. I think most of us would want a new manager in either situation. If you are a fan of just about every other team, you would probably be happy with giving Yost a long term extension if #2 occurs. If you are a Yankees/Red Sox fan, all 3 are failures if you don't win the World Series. So it really depends on perspective. I think any playoff appearance and Yost will and should get a 3 year extension (Edit: and he will take it over rebuilding again)
  11. I don't really care about the Pythagorean record either. All it says to me is that we have a good record in 1-run games. As for predicting the future, we could either (1) regress towards our Pythagorean record, or we could (2) keep scoring more runs and have the Pythagorean record catch up to our real record, or even (3) keep winning close ballgames like Arizona did last year. I think #2 is most likely.
  12. I'm not to 1000 posts yet. I better watch my words for the next 3 posts before I gain immunity.
  13. It would be devastating if the season ended like this and we missed the playoffs with the 3rd best record in the league. I doubt that will happen though.
  14. Coaching/managing positions are the easiest fix. It doesn't require adding payroll or trading prospects or drafting to improve your team. You can fire your manager one day and have a completely new coaching staff the next day. Despite that, it takes months or even years for a manager's system to be fully put in place. Yost's in-game decisions started immediately, but the losing mindset had to be changed over the course of years. It depends on your evaluation of our talent to decide whether he has done a good job or not. Some would say he's a manager of the year candidate, others have wanted him gone for over a year. From an outsider's perspective, Yost has helped turn the 'pathetic' Brewers into a perennial contender--and he was clearly well-liked in Atlanta as a coach.
  15. That is very close to my parent's home in Greenfield. My grandparents always said that they were going to extend the parkway but changed their minds, but I don't know if they know that for a fact. That bridge has to be around 20-30 years old by now--the Root River rerouted itself around it.
  16. I'm just curious how Skaalen got 3 goat of the game awards. He doesn't bat or manage.
  17. Greg Maddux is a genius. I'm all for trading for him, even if he can only contribute in a bullpen/emergency starter role.

  19. Greg Maddux is a genius. I'm all for trading for him, even if he can only contribute in a bullpen/emergency starter role.
  20. Sheets pitching = night off for bullpen. He's not just our ace, he's our team MVP right now.
  21. I still post occasionally over there and I just had to spread the word about this post: Also of interest is the website that one of their posters created: goatofthegame.com
  22. The question is, how much is a trip to the playoffs worth? I think they can make the playoffs with the team that is on the field tonight. Our biggest threats to the playoffs are the Cardinals, Marlins, and Mets. Signing CC Sabathia would give us a huge edge over those teams and even increase our odds of catching the Cubs. Plus, if Sheets goes down, which could happen at any time, we have bought ourself an insurance policy instead of completely knocking ourselves out of the race. What is LaPorta really worth to us? If we trade him for Sabathia and go on to make the playoffs, we will see a huge increase in revenue and fan interest in October that will carry over into next year and even years beyond that. That extra revenue should be able to give us enough money to re-sign Fielder, assuming he wants to come back. If we don't pull the trigger and keep LaPorta, he will remain blocked by Prince. Furthermore, we would increase our odds of missing the playoffs compared to trading LaPorta. Furthremore, either LaPorta or Fielder will have to be traded eventually, setting up the situation of either trading your franchise player or an unproven prospect. Based on that logic, I think C.C. should be making his next start in a Brewers uniform.
  23. There's no doubt in my mind that the AL Central is #1 and the NL Central is #2. Seattle really brings down the AL West, but the Angels-A's-Rangers are a solid top 3 also. I know the Brewers played well this week, but they didn't win a single game against the Red Sox.
