  1. Yesterday was awesome!!! It was a little humid, but it wasn't too bad. There should be storms on Friday, I'm looking forward to that.
  2. If the fans had their way, the Brewers would have had about 50 different managers since 2000. Every 3 game losing streak would result in a firing. As for attendance at games, it lags a full year behind on-field success. The final home series of the year is nearly sold out already. This year will have high attendance based on last year's success. Next year could suffer if they fall out of the race completely and don't make any interesting moves in the offseason.
  3. What happened to Mike Maddux's ability to "fix" the problems of pitchers that we took off the scrap heap? Does he have a major impact, or did we just get lucky and correctly time the successes of Kolb, Turnbow, Cordero, Davis, etc.? I don't like this signing, but perhaps there is some sort of flaw to correct that the Brewers think can render him effective. But overall, is adding a reliever really going to help us? The bullpen hasn't been great this year, but compared with last year, they are definitely not the scapegoats.
  4. Ouch. That's really terrible, I feel bad as well. The meteorologist will now remind everyone of the 30/30 rule: 30/30 Rule The first 30 means if, between flash and bang, you count to 30 or less, you are in danger and should go to safe shelter. The second 30 means wait 30 minutes from the last flash or thunder to establish "all clear."
  5. I'm not sure who it was, but maybe the answer is on the wikipedia page?
  6. That infield might lead us somewhere in 2011, but in 2009, an infield with 3 rookies will lead us exactly where Florida's rookie-heavy team got them in 2007--last place.
  7. I'm glad I decided to watch that inning before I went shopping. That's the most fun I've had watching the Brewers in awhile.
  8. This could be the game right here.
  9. I do agree that he should be a platoon guy and he should be on the MLB roster right now. But he strikes out 1/3 of the time--in the minors--when he's on a hot streak. So, I'm just trying to say that although he would be an improvement over what we have, I don't think he could win us more than 1 extra game. For every time that he comes up and belts a homer in the late innings, there's going to be plenty of other times where he strikes out with runners on, while Counsell (usually) gets it done with the bases loaded. Maybe I, like Ned Yost, am reluctant to give up the idea of small ball.
  10. Jim Powell talked about Branyan for awhile during the game last night and concluded that the most you can expect out of Branyan is what Bill Hall already gives us. I think 1868 career MLB plate appearances is enough to convince me that I won't see anything different this time. He's struck out 48 times in 150 plate appearances in Nashville this year. That suggests to me that he's still the same Russell Branyan that didn't do much last time he was here. I think he's a textbook example of a 4-A player. However, our bench has to be one of the worst in baseball. We have Slappy, Slappy Jr., Dillon, and Mike "is he still with the team?" Rivera. So I would advocate trading one of the slappys--preferably getting the inevitable over with and sending Gwynn to the Padres--and then calling Branyan up. He should definitely not start, but he can't be any worse than what we have on the bench right now.
  11. The Brewers/Cubs scenario reminds me of a similiar situation from last year about this time...one of the two teams was in last place, couldn't hit, couldn't pitch, and had key injuries. The other team got off to a huge start, was comfortably in first place, and seemed to have everything going right. If I were Ned Yost, I would recommend getting really angry over a "bad call" that was actually correct and kicking some dirt on an umpire. It worked for the Cubs last year.
  12. In light of Melvin's comments, I expect that the new Florida deal will be announced tomorrow.
  13. I would love Bobby V. in our dugout, but so would almost every other team. I'm sure ESPN would like him back as well. However, I would expect him to remain our of the spotlight in Japan for now...you might say he's "incognito"... http://www.mysticgames.com/famouspeople/pictures/BobbyValentine.jpg
  14. I'll give the Brewers a C. They stayed in the games, but they definitely weren't on the same level. But that's ok, the NL champion Rockies didn't have much better luck. Overall, it just puts things into perspective for anyone who has World Series aspirations for this team. The pieces aren't together yet, and it's not going to happen overnight. If you want to beat the world champions on the road, you can't have 4/5 starting pitchers be inconsistent. You can't have a hit/miss closer. You can't have two of your hitters flirting with the Mendoza line. You can't have a bench that gives you virtually no production. You can't make defensive mistakes.
  15. Fielder has always been quiet with the media, so it's hard to judge whether he is the clubhouse leader or not...and every indication is that he still is. Braun learned some things from his slump, now he's on a hot streak...but he's missing the key component of an on the field leader...his home runs are not resulting in wins. Fielder has hit several HRs this year in the 7th-10th innings to win/tie games. Braun seems to get his hits earlier in games. The runs count the same either way, but I'd still rather have Fielder up there with the game on the line. But as for the clubhouse leader, there's no way to know unless someone in the media decides to ask.
  16. I'm sensing an upgrade from row 3 to row 1 for next year's season tickets!!!
  17. Roy Halladay has 4 complete games this year in 9 starts--I find that to be amazing in this era of 6 inning starts being a success . Still...the Diamondbacks are going to win the World Series if their 1-2 punch keeps up the way Johnson and Schilling did back in 2001. Edit: I'll reluctantly add Carlos Zambrano to the list of top-10 pitchers right now also.
  18. Not to sound like Yost, but I don't see what the cause for concern is. Our starting pitching is finally coming around and the offense is no longer completely inept. Plus, I wouldn't put Boston and DC on the same level as Houston and Florida, both of which have been playing great. I'm expecting .500 but I think they will surprise you guys and do better.
  19. I don't know what he meant, but maybe he should watch Braun's HR against the Astros on 8/11/07. (See top plays)
  20. I blame the talk radio, the Internet, and ESPN.
  21. I dislike Barry Bonds. But he was the best player of the 90's and he knew it, but he wasn't getting the attention because the steroid users were stealing the show. The Hall of Fame wasn't good enough, you could see that he wanted to be the best. However, his crime is breaking the hallowed record and then lying about how it did it. As far as I'm concerned, he's already been punished enough by the court of public opinion. No need to scapegoat him, especially by Congress--maybe if they worried about what was actually important then...(bad stuff wouldn't have happened).
  22. I'm starting to think that this has nothing to do with Yost/Gallardo/momentum after all. We stink on the road. We win at home. Nothing more to it.
  23. I've been trying to figure this one out with no luck. I do know that this is the spot where "Sleep Now in the Fire" used to be played in years past.
