  1. Oops, maybe bringing in Turnbow wasn't such a hot idea.
  2. Sorry, but I could not resist . . . there was this hilarious picture of Ned Yost in the JS Online spring training preview. I couldn't stop laughing. Just for fun, let's see who can come up with the best caption http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b273/AJAY_02/NedYostScared.jpg
  3. With all the bad weather we had this winter, the return of baseball seems even more significant this year. Especially with all the pre-season buzz and hype for this team. Let's hope this season turns out to be very special for our beloved Brew Crew. Time for the boys to go to work !! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b273/AJAY_02/mlb-sm.gif
  4. I agree that the bleachers were better at County Stadium. It was nice to be at field level and it was nice to not have another deck hanging above you. But other than that, there is absolutely nothing I miss about County Stadium. Miller Park is just amazing in every other aspect . . . well . . . except for that stupid slide. I do miss the chalet and beer mug. I still think they need to add that.
  5. I am not happy about this either, but I don't think the high payroll has anything to do with it. Prices are pretty much dictated by demand and not costs. They will definitely lose a few customers on opening day, but their overall total profits will probably go up.
  6. ESPN has an interesting article about Tony Gwynn Jr's clutch hit that prevented the Padres from going to the playoffs. On a personal note, I still can't get over the irony of this. I was in attendance for this game, and it was one of the strangest things I have seen in all the years I have followed baseball. It was also huge for the Brewers because it was win number 82 and it snapped our streak of non-winning seasons. How cool was it that it was a Wisconsin native who got the game winning hit in extra innings (Vinny Rottino). http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3243227
  7. I'd be surprised if he even makes the team considering that there isn't really any aspect of his game that is above average.

  10. Same old Ned Yost. He never wants to admit mistakes. He can't defend his decisions. He continues to use stupid cliches about how every fan has an opinion and how everyone thinks managing is easy, blah, blah, blah . . . The season hasn't even started yet, and I am already tired of listening to his nonsense. Can they just please make Ted Simmons the manager and get this over with now? By the way, what happened to that official venting thread?

  12. Jayson Stark from ESPN was on Tim Allen's hot stove program tonight, and he didn't really seem to have anything positive to say about how Yost handled the team last season. He had issues with guys not knowing their roles and having so much switching around in the lineup. He basically said that Ned really needs to learn from last season and not keep making those kind of mistakes. The hosts also mentioned that the Brewers are the only baseball franchise never to have hired a manager with post-season experience.
  13. Does this mean Jason Kendall is a Brewer ?
  14. Just reported on WTMJ Channel 4 news.
  15. I think the guy badly needed a change of scenery. But those Philly fans are amongst the toughest and will eat him alive the minute he blows a save. It might not be the best fit for him and his psyche.
  16. I doubt this will be the case -- If Derrek Lee hits a 3 run HR late in a game, and it gets reversed -- Lou Pinella is still going to throw a 10 minute fit. Pinella's fit will be shorter because he will know that the umpires have seen replays and it will be harder for him to justify arguing the call. But if there was no replay, the opposing manager's fit would be even longer because he will have known that Derek Lee's three-run HR was either foul or never cleared the fence. More than the time issue, I am concerned primarily about the integrity of the competition. There is just no excuse for blown calls in this day and age of technology. Do you remember when the Cardinals lost a championship in 1985 because of a blown call? ESPN just recently did a story about how that umpire still gets death threats to this day. It's just bad for the game.
  17. Anything more will slow the game down and alter how it is played. Some people have suggested that replay will actually speed up the game because they won't need to waste time arguing with umpires. I think the game will be played the same. Throw the ball, hit the ball, and catch the ball.
  18. I agree with having instant replay. There is no need for "human error" anymore. It's they year 2007 and our technology is amazing. Hopefully they will expand the use of replay and overturn other bad calls as well.
  19. From JS Online . . . Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said tonight the club probably will announce a new third base by the end of the week. Class AAA Nashville manager Frank Kremblas and Class AA Huntsville manager Don Money are the top internal candidates for the position, which became open when Nick Leyva was dismissed after the season. But Melvin said he also is considering "a couple of other names" from outside of the organization. Melvin would not reveal those outside candidates but did say that former Texas and Cincinnati manager Jerry Narron was not one of them. Narron managed for Melvin when he was the GM in Texas and the two remain friends. "I talked to Jerry but he's not in consideration," said Melvin. Asked what might make him go outside of the organization, Melvin said, "It would be someone that offers experience with the overall talent level in the National League. Someone that might have a presence in dealing with veteran players. "We didn't have a problem with our younger players but we may have a need for someone to talk to veteran players. That way, (manager) Ned (Yost) doesn't always have to do it."
  20. I am very proud of our Prince. Sign him to a super-long deal. Pay him what he is worth. Let's see a Fielder statue outside Miller Park someday to go along with that plaque in Cooperstown. Great franchises have great legends and this kid is going to be special. We need to keep this kid in Milwaukee.
  21. I am absolutely against the DH. The National League has so much more interesting strategy because of the pinch-hitting, double switches, pitching changes, etc. I actually think the American League should dump the DH.
  22. Not sure if this has been posted already, but Drew Olson of Onmilwaukee.com brings up Jerry Narron as a candidate to become the third base coach. http://www.onmilwaukee.com/sports/articles/scorecard102707.html
  23. I just don't think Jenkins is a fit for this team even if he is available at a cheap price. I would like to see a more consistent high average contact hitter take over in left field. I do like Jenkins' defense, but I am not sure if that is enough to bring him back. I just think we need to mix our lineup a little more and add a completely different type of hitter.
  24. Even though I dislike Ned Yost, I wasn't overly impressed by that analysis by the Hardball Times. I agree that the starters didn't go deep into games and the bullpen was overworked, but I find it hard to blame Yost for that because there was a long stretch where the starters just weren't getting it done. I actually had more frustration with Yost for different reasons.
  25. Leyva was caught off-guard by the news on Tuesday afternoon, and said Yost told him they were not on the "same wavelength." Dear Mr. Leyva, many of us fans were not on the same wavelength with Ned either. You are not alone. God Bless you. Brewers announce coaching staff for '08
