  1. Phillies promoted from Brewer Max Lazar to the majors today. He's had a good minor league season this year after switching to the bullpen
  2. Just baseball ranked him 58th best prospect in baseball. That's clearly an outlier compared to other rankings but the sky is the limit on this guy. I'd like to see what he does stateside before I would rank him that high, but I am very excited about him.
  3. Unfortunately there is also an update on Bukasukas. He had a setback on Friday (pulled from AAA rehab game). They are awaiting on severity. Tough break for him. His numbers during his rehab have been outstanding as well as the 6 games he played for the Brewers. His career is filled with promise and injury. I sure hope he can stay healthy some day and it would be even better in a Brewers uniform. He is under control through 2028 and is not arby eligible until 2026.
  4. Brewers /Milner conversation: Hoby, we need a roster spot and would like to option you to AAA. No, you don't accept. How about a 15 day vacation?
  5. Mysterious injury comes to the rescue again. DL Hall activated, Milner to 15 day. Enoli to 60day. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/08/brewers-activate-dl-hall-from-60-day-il.html Depth is maintained. No one had to be DFA'd
  6. I'm fine with Ortiz sliding over to SS next year. Adames has a ton of intangibles that make me want to keep him (ex. good clubhouse guy), but I'm worried about the defense. His dropoff this year is significant and he is only getting older.
  7. Its hard to believe this team continues to keep doing this with the rotation they have. Just digging into the team pitching numbers, I think I see why. Brewers ERA is 3.77 (5th in the league), but the FIP is 4.37 (25th in the league). No other team is even close to a 60 point improvement from FIP to ERA. Their defense is really good but its even more effective because the the pitchers make use of that defense. They pitch to contact. Their K/9 innings (8.2) is 23rd out of 30 teams. They are roughly average in giving up baserunners (WHIP is 1.262) and they are bottom five in giving up HRs. So their pitching as a whole is unremarkable (not meant as a dig). The defense makes the difference. That's nothing to take away from the incredible improvement in hitting from last year to this year. The brewers are 6th in baseball in Runs per game and 8th in OPS. The young hitters deserve a lot of credit. Their improvement in OPS and the great defense they are providing is what is keeping this team in first place.
  8. I was wrong. Aram gushed over Made AND Luke Adams. Also kind words about Yophery. Worth a listen and you can skip just to the players using the Chapter links. Aram thinks the Brewers have one of the best minors in baseball. I'm a homer but thats quite a statement.
  9. The offense has been fantastic the last few days. Imagine how good this team would be with Yelich healthy.
  10. By the way, I'm fairly certain the Brewers have to use that 4th option this year or it goes away next year. So its use it or lose it. Why I think he gets optioned. He'd be the first one up if they need someone as his early season numbers were fantastic and his rehab numbers are nearly identical.
  11. I dont need to watch the video. I can guarantee Aram was gushing over Made. Curious why Made gets this high ranking but not Pena. Same age, play the same positions, had similar signing bonuses, and similar OPS this year (Luis was even higher). Not complaining about having 6 in the top 100 but hard to argue Pena should not be in the discussion.
  12. Current relievers with options: Peguera, Milner, and Koenig. I'd say Koenig is safe but the others two could be discussed as Hudson and MeGill have performed way better. Bukauskas and Hall will need 40 man roster spots, but both have options so they could be sent to AAA. I'm still surprised a Milner or Payamps were not traded. Got to believe they have at least lottery ticket value and that would help with this upcoming roster crunch.
  13. I was not referring to Brewerfanatic reporting. I was referring to the Brewers announcing only the top 3 players reporting. I considered the 165 man limit but to my amateur calculations, they are already under the 165 with all the new signings. So why delay? I guess it doesn't matter as these are just paper transactions.
  14. Silly to do these paper transfers piecemeal. I mean I'm sure all the recent signing are at the complex now. Considering there are no official games being played there, why not "assign" all of them to ACL?
  15. Small market teams can and do make a living off waiver claims and trades as a result of the 40 man limit. Just look at the Brewers bullpen. Megill, Hudson, Wilson, and Bukauskas, are all pickups due to the limits on their teams 40 man roster. It does work both ways.
  16. My initial hot take on this is it was a terrible trade. I've come down a bit from that by doing a lot of rationalizing. Junis needed significant rest in between his outings. Looking at his logs, the Brewers gave him at least 2 days rest (and often longer) even when he had short outings. Not sure if that would improve over time or not, but I think that played into this as well as clearly to offset salaries. The $1M we had to send was embarrassing IMO. Montas value was low because he salary was so high. They got plenty in return that the $1M did not need to be sent. Wiemer is the one I'm struggling on. He wont be a free agent until 2029 so thats a lot of years of control to rework that swing. Too much potential for one year of a mediocre starting pitcher. I've lost a lot of confidence in Wiemer though so its unlikely this will come back to bite us, but that Cincy stadium can make any hitter look good. I'd rather they tried Chad Patrick as a starter to see what he can do.

  18. We are sending $1M to offset the buyout for next year. Link The difference in money is $3.35M overall for this year (including the buyout and cash)
  19. Aram from Just Baseball was raving about Made in a recent podcast. Saying he might be the next big thing. He was also a fan of our draft this year though that was before it came out that Levonas wont sign.
  20. These day 3 guys sure were expensive. Renz got 3rd money and he was not even ranked. I'd bet they knew the Brewers had money to spend when Levonas did not sign. The agent knew they had all the leverage. Good for these kids for cashing in. Now lets hope they perform well.
  21. I'd probably put Shane Smith as more likely than Patrick. Patrick has all the numbers but the Brewers seem to lack confidence in him. They have been desperate for starting pitching and even traded for Keuchel and Montes all while Patrick is destroying AAA. Makes me wonder if they would protect him. Rounding out the unlikely but worthy of mention would be: Alexander Cornielle Wes Clarke, Russell Smith, and Ernesto Martinez.
  22. It would be huge to get JB back, especially in the form he was pitching in earlier this year.
  23. DL Hall, Bukauskas, and Ross are all rehabbing at AAA and will need 40 man roster spots once they come off the 60 day IL. Seems likely a RP trade may be in the making in the next day or so. Milner, Peguero, Payamps would all be upgrades to some teams and have some value.
  24. Do we think they are not disclosing DeBerry's bonus on purpose as a negotiating tactic with Levonas and the other day 3 signings? DeBerry could be an extreme underslot (like $10k), which would give them another $778k to spend.
